Leopard attacking villagers in India

newtboy says...

Wow! In the US, we only have to remove raccoons and possums from the attic, never leopards, panthers, or lions.
Poor guy didn't seem to be having a good time.

Vincent J. Musi: Big Cats Up Close

Tank brake test

radx says...

A Leopard 2 can reach 100+ km/h on asphalt if you bypass the rev limiter, but steering becomes tricky and the noise unbearable. That said, both Leopard 2 and Marder (IFV, like a Bradley) regularly exceed 80 km/h at the nearby training grounds -- offroad, across muddy fields.

I was surprised when I learned that tanks can do 50+ mph (80+ km/h).

Scumbag Seals

rich_magnet says...

Then apparently you've never dived with large seals before. On land they're comically clumsy but in the water, you move as silly as they do on land, whilst they move with grace, speed and strength. Look up under-sea videos of sea lions or leopard seals. Beautiful to dive with, though you have to pay attention to their body language.

OK, I don't think I have ever thought of seals as scary before.

Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

robbersdog49 says...

Big cats differ from domestic cats in lots of ways but one of the less obvious ways is that they can only purr on the exhale. You can hear this in the video, the leopard purrs for what seems a long time but then has to stop to breath in and then the purr starts again. Domestic cats can purr continuously :0)

8 Months pregnant woman tasered by police

chingalera says...

The criteria for employment with the local constabulary in the U.S. uses at least a 90 I.Q. as a baseline....Cops don't need to be that bright. Most cops actions are dictated by the survival circuit and are motivated by their hind-brained impulses. You don't really exercise wisdom winding-up a fight-or-flight neanderthal.

gwiz665, are you that naive? If the world was all fluffy kittens and the sky were made of cotton candy then police would be helpful assistants in our societies with duties like earning, old-lady street-crossing assistance badges and traffic-directing patches. Oh, for a joyous world without firearms with puppies and kitties!!

The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.-Isaiah 11:6

And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.-Isaiah 2:4

If as a cop you can't cope with a mouthy, pregnant woman without electrocuting her over a minor vehicle incident then you should not be a cop.
These guys clearly don't have the common sense, empathy or physical capabilities for the job.

Best Son Ever

robbersdog49 says...

My mother is a biology teacher and all my life she's shown me how fascinating the natural world is. It's become a real interest for me and shapes the way I live my life. When I got married my wife and I went to kenya on safari and saw some of the most beautiful and incredible wildlife. I remembered seeing lions and elephants in the zoo with my mother telling me all about them, to see them for real in the wild was mind blowing. I vividly remember how much my mother would love to see Africa. She could make the creepy crawlies under a rotting log fascinating, I just thought how wonderful lions, leopards and so on would be for her.

She's worked hard all her life and provided very well for my brother and I, we had a great upbringing and great opportunities but they never left enough for themselves. So last year my wife and I took her to Zambia. Highlight of the trip was tracking a lioness on foot and getting to within about fifty yards of it. Being able to share the experience with her was awesome. We're lucky enough to be able to afford it and it's the best money I've ever, ever spent.

If you can, you really should spoil your mother. They deserve it
