I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

What an odd coincidence, though - such is fame these days, eh?

I may have met that same homeless guy. I flew in to Cleveland for a Do Make Say Think/Broken Social Scene (both from Toronto) show and a guy asked us that in downtown Cleveland. Maybe just a popular attention grabber. He ended up getting some really good cajun catfish and pizza leftovers out of us.

This beggar/homeless guy in Cleveland taught me that one - we had a good laugh because we were, of course, visiting from Canada, so we weren't sure how to respond to the question until he delivered the kicker.

brain, you have trifled with forces you can barely comprehend. Forces that have created beaver tails AND poutine.

Reasons To Vote For John McCain!

dannym3141 says...

/sigh at democracy..

there could be 75% of all american people thinking "damn, if ron paul was popular i'd vote for him!"

i'm no political expert - would voting for ron paul perhaps make "them" realise that you want an intelligent ass-kicker as president? there's a lot of support for him on the internet that i've seen.. i wonder if seeing him do well will be a surprise and a kick up the arse to everyone else?

but then you have those nutcase christians who vote for the first person to say "i believe in god" to watch out for.. maybe if you don't vote for the lesser of two evils you get the most evil? what do i know.. i just hate to see people who belong to a democratic society saying "man, if he had a chance i'd vote for him!"

How it all ends

choggie says...

How about, Take action (band-aid on the sucking chest-wound of cyclical planetary dynamics)
Not taking action (full disclosure of all agendas that stand to benefit monetarily from abusing the minds of the concerned)
The planet is changing and the powerful manipulators who rely on the construct of the global economy that they use against those who are slaves to it, don't give two bits about what monkeys do about it unless it involves spending the cash they have created on it. Cripple the elite, by denying your addictions to their construct, and watch how fast the cockroaches scurry.

The real kicker is, alternatives to oil used for anything but a lubricant, have been here for some time, kept under lock and key by our puppet masters....free, clean, non-wind and non-solar.

What place in the heavens hath been wrought 'tis a greater stage to stand upon; to trod the sod, to fling the bean, to kick, to flail, to watch the thing? "Nay, none!," I say, the stadium, filled with ten thousands that stand as one; to urge, to hope, to cheer them on; those thespians of Sunday. Watch Josh perform his one man show as the crowd respond, "Bravo! Bravo!"

540 Spin Kick Triple Board Break! (5 Seconds)

rembar says...

Hm. How to say this:

- Kicks work in MMA, even against grappling specialists. The kicker just has to be very good at kicking, takedown defense, and escaping from ground to standing, i.e. be a good sprawl-and-brawler. Kicking has proven to be a very important part of MMA, and anybody who doesn't train to kick and defend against kicks is an incomplete fighter. Anybody who doesn't think so is wrong.
- TKD is an art with many different variations, it's how it's trained that makes the difference. Because most tournament TKD is trained crappily with tippy-tappy kicks not intended for damage, and because no punching is allowed, tournament TKD sucks for self defense. Then again, most Krav Maga sucks for self-defense too because it caters to wimpy civilians who are looking for any easy way out rather than pay the sweat, blood, and pain in training, so who's counting?
- Martial arts are all about fighting. Anybody who's practicing a martial art that isn't about fighting isn't practicing a martial art. That's just my opinion, but I'm right.
- Boards don't hit back. Seems pretty smart to single them out to fight, then, right?

People, just appreciate this for what it is: an amazing example of athleticism and skill intended for crowd-pleasing, board-breaking, kick-flipping action, not for combat ability. I highly doubt anybody would think throwing a tornado kick in a fight is a good idea, and whoever does deserves the surprise that Darwin's got coming for them.

Roberto Carlos Top 10 Goals

Quboid says...

Really over rated player.

#10 - did he mean to bounce it off the ground? I doubt it, I think he meant to volley it straight and got lucky.
#8 - nice outside curve.
#2 - yeah, right, sure that was deliberate. If I was his manager, I'd drop him from the team if he meant that. What sort of dumb ass wastes possession in a position like that with a shot that goes in 1 in 1000000000 times. He whacked in a cross, got lucky. Good for him, but not a skillful goal.
#1 - the camera angle is flattering. Plenty of free kicks would look this good with the camera positioned so neatly behind the kicker. It was a great goal, but it's not deserving of the reaction it got, he made millions off the fact that there was a camera in the right place.

The rest are good, but plenty of other players have done just as well. I'd take John Arne Riise over Roberto Carlos at his peak any day, Riise can could do these AND defend.

Tour of the depths of the Chernobyl reactor and sarcophagus

codenazi says...

Sigh... I never understood people's irrational fear of nuclear power. It usually centers around "big" events like Chernobyl and "long term" events having to do with the waste.

There's a lot of miss-information about both fears on the anti-nuclear side, though. Chernobyl was their, own fault - they shut down many hours of warnings and interlocks to try and run a test they were late on. The plant kept trying to shut itself down, and they overrode it. This is bad, but it's easily fixed with new designs. And as was also mentioned, even in the case of a huge failure, all modern reactors have containment shells.

The waste fear is particularly laughable, though. Most of this stuff was around in one from or another already - we just mined it out. More to the point, though, if it's dangerous, it's usable fuel! We can just keep burning it, until it finally decays to something that's fairly safe. We are barely touching the possible reactor types we could be using... I wonder if these types know that current coal plants put out more uranium waste than is used in all our nuclear reactors. That is the tragedy that should be shut down.

The kicker, though, is what to do without nuclear power. Shutdown the world and go without? (I know some neo-nippies that want that...) Use our current fossil-fuel power? Energy needs only go up in huge ways, and we need something. Solar/etc is nowhere near efficient enough yet. Nuclear power really is the green choice for the foreseeable future.

/sorry for the long post... @.@

Conan O'Brien and Hunter S. Thompson go shooting

phelixian says...

OMFG...

HST should have been given a show where he has different guests on and they go to the shooting range and drink whiskey. That was wildly entertaining.

The Alfred like butler dude was the kicker.
