Young man shot after GPS error

harlequinn says...

It's a fact that you don't know if he would be alive or dead if their was no gun involved. It is also a fact you don't know if he was protecting himself with a sword that nobody would have died. Be especially mindful that the sword was the army's choice of murder weapon for several thousand years and is incredibly effective at killing people. A short sword thrust into the chest can do considerably more vascular damage than a lot of firearms.

Before committing a crime everyone is part of the good guy pool - it is the default situation.

In Australia we stop firearms ownership by those with criminal convictions and those with a history of mental illness. It is effective in stopping the legal ownership of firearms by those groups of people. The real kicker of course is those with a criminal bent simply ignore the rules anyway and buy illegal firearms. Additionally we have a nationwide free mental health system. This has proven it's worth many times over and should be adopted by the USA.

I think the focus should be on changing the USA's standards in regards to who can own firearms, how they are bought, how they are tracked, and how they are stored.

So the answer here is what...?

Larger fences
Gated communities
More lights on properties
Regular psychological evaluations for everyone owning a gun
Panic Buttons
Panic Rooms
Limit the use of guns
Limit the storage of guns in a home

Fact: No gun and the kid would still be living.
Fact: If he was protecting himself with a sword, no one would have died.

How do you make the call on who is the good guy with the gun and who is the bad guy? This guy was the good guy, until he killed someone, now he's the bad guy. No gun = no bad guy.

Saying safe gun handles should get guns and everyone else gets them taken away doesn't work. Who makes that call?

This is more of a case where all the bad apples spoil it for the good apples while the good apples accidentally spoil it for the remaining good apples. In the end, you can't tell the good apples from the bad apples.

This guy is awesome at kicking american footballs!!!

MilkmanDan says...

I'm with @silvercord, suit him up and see what happens.

His distance field goal accuracy didn't seem spectacular compared to clips I've seen of NFL kickers in similar practice situations (ie. no angry linemen trying to rush you, block the kick, or rip your leg off and stuff it up your ass), but still very very good.

However, his punt accuracy would allow for some very interesting set special teams plays. Not just reliable coffin-corner punts, but onside kicks, punting to a specific target and trying to force a fumble, etc. etc.

yeah..and they worried about Obama indoctrinating the kids.

if making a kid, who isn't old enough to make an informed decision do a video like this isn't indoctrination, I don't know what is.

Texas Graffiti Writer Gets 8 Years of Prison Without Parole

Auger8 says...

I agree with virtually everyone's opinion here except for @videosiftbannedme and @syncron and all I have to say to them is you have no idea what's going to happen to this kid in prison. Yes I said kid even though your legally an adult in Texas at 17, this kid is going to go through hell in prison. The first thing that happens to any male prisoner under 40 in prison is they get checked at the door. Getting "checked" in prison usually consists of at least one convict and as many as 4 or 5 convicts simply walking up to the guy and beating the living shit out of him. It works like Fight Club if this is your first time to prison you HAVE to fight. If there is more than one guy doing the checking they "backdoor" you which means they fight you one at a time with no breaks between fights as soon as the first guy has his fill the next one steps up and they can all go as many rounds as they feel like. If you don't fight them they will turn you into a bitch, take your food your bunk your commissary money, your fucking toothbrush, everything and you basically become a slave at that point. Even if you do fight there is no way to win they make sure the fights are very one sided. And all this is simply his first day in prison. After that depending on how his check goes things will get worse or they will become living hell literally. Some prisons are know as gladiator camps because anyone this guys age is going to fight every single day he's there period like it not. Here's the real kicker too the fights are usually started by people with very long sentences who don't give a flyin fuck what happens to them if they get caught. But if this kid gets caught fighting they will add time to his sentence by adding assault charges in their military style kangaroo court. So he's pretty well fucked from the start.

So this kid who's most heinous crime was a little graffiti will spend 8 years fighting guys twice his size every single day. Then they will release him back into society and call him reformed. Tell me what do you think you would be like after something like that? Would you ever be able to call yourself normal again? Would you be able to sleep at night without jumping up at every single noise you hear?

Some people simply don't get it. Prison is only good for one thing putting people away for life. They DO NOT rehabilitate ANYONE. They only make things worse they should never be used for petty crimes. Putting people in prison only breeds hatred inside those people. It breeds fear as well, fear of going back. That's why people who are on parole when faced with the possibility of going back to prison usually commit suicide. Prisons are for murders, Prisons are for rapists, Prisons are for child molesters, Prisons are for sociopaths.

Prisons are not for graffiti.

What people don't seem to realize is that Atkins is starvation with a full belly. Yes, if you reduce your useable energy intake to zero, you'll quickly start dropping fat... and muscle... and whatever else your body can break down to fill the gap.
When you go back to eating normally, you'll probably pack it right back on. That's how our bodies generally respond to starvation.
The real kicker is how many people think carbs are unhealthy as a result of this stupid diet.
Back around 2000 when I was sick with an ulcer, acid reflux, and a generally uncooperative GI tract, I was telling someone about how I ate a lot of plain pasta because it never irritated my gut, it was reasonably healthy, and at least I was eating something. I was about 40lbs underweight at this point, so I had to take what I could get. Someone overheard me and said, "Oh, all those carbs are really unhealthy."

It's not starvation - fat has twice as much 'usable energy' as carbohydrates have per gram. Your mind will tell you it's starving for the first few days, because it takes time to build up enough enzymes to efficiently process the different form of energy than it usually gets, but it all ends up as ATP eventually. You're probably right about some people thinking carbs are bad because of this diet, but that's assuming they treat the diet like a religion and don't look at any other information, which is not going to be the case for everyone - and heck, quite a few of the sources of easily available carbs these days are pretty horribawful.

Also, if you look at the research, those participants in low carb/high fat/adequate protein diets usually fair just as good, or better than, high carb participants in terms of keeping the weight off after the diet is over.

Agree with what you said. The feeling i get from him, it's not that he's overly against anyone per say (although he may be.. show me a perfect human and I'll show you something you've missed), but seems its more like he's incapable of connecting to realistic level's of compassion. Sociopath would be my guess.

If any one does have a video of him where it seem he genuinely is connecting with humans on an emotional level, and here's the kicker, that also isn't an obvious promotional opportunity, I'd like to see it.

Angry Birds in Real Life: Aggressive Goose Attacks Man

Porksandwich says...

>> ^MilkmanDan:

Farm story:
When I was growing up, we always kept 30-50 chickens for eggs. You can buy sets of chicks that are supposed to be all pullets/hens (females) but usually a few roosters (males) get mixed in by mistake. One time we bought a set of bantam chickens, which is a small/miniature variety, and happened to get 4-5 roosters mixed in with the hens.
Bantams "make up" for their small size in increased aggressiveness. I (about 6 years old or so at the time) was initially scared of them because they would act a lot like this goose -- charge, jump, and try to show you who's boss. They don't have any real means to actually hurt you; no spurs, beaks aren't sharp, etc. but their behavior can be scary for kids at first.
Then my dad taught me how to handle them: stand your ground, angle out a leg and foot so they charge down your foot/shin first, and let them start to ineffectually attack/spur your foot and leg. When they have a leg on either side of your foot, you just kick/launch them away, or even better aim them into the nearest solid object -- like the wall of the barn. I'd go in to collect eggs, let them attack, and boot the little bastards into the wall.
Chickens aren't exactly known for being very intelligent, but bantams seem to have miniature brains in their miniature bodies as well. Getting booted into a wall never really hurt them, but it would make them dizzy or dazed for a few minutes and give you time to collect the eggs. But the next day, or even just after a few minutes if you stuck around, they'd come back around for round two of chicken football.
One disclaimer: if you're a PETA type, consider that being repeatedly kicked into a wall (yet suffering no long-term ill effects) is perhaps better treatment than the likely alternative of being caged into a 2 foot square, force fed, and ending up on a plate at KFC. Maybe.

#1, #2.

Netrunner said: "You seem to believe that all anyone needs to do to become a millionaire is a positive attitude and hard work."

Yes, that's definitely true for the majority of genomes in the US.

Step 1: Devote all waking hours to reading, working, and exercise. Do these things until you're smarter than everyone around you. Eschew meaningless experiential pursuits and don't get married until as late as possible.

Step 2: Profit.

#3 Netrunner said: "I didn't say people should lie."

Pronouncements that scientists should downplay, not publicize, or otherwise bias their results because we don't like those results (they "lend credence to racial stereotypes") has the final effect of countless liberal academics lying and using whatever means are at their disposal to force compliance.

#4 Netrunner said: "I'm sorta curious what you'd like to see people do differently as a result of those kinds of studies."

It's useful for predictions. We can accurately predict that billions spent on trying to close the achievement gap will never succeed. We can accurately predict that hyper-liberal Berkeley will always have the highest crime rates in the San Francisco bay area regardless of legislative policy because it's sandwiched between Oakland and Richmond, which have collected genomes that are bad at complex society.

We can know that it was probably a mistake for liberals to import 80 million permanently poor people from other countries between 1970-2010. If we really want population-replacement that bad, just import poor people from China, and they'll on average outscore White Americans within a generation.

At this point, the fastest way to decrease poverty, academic achievement gaps, and most associated trends is to increase funding for genetics and technologies that lead to reprogenetics. If you want universal access for the poor, that's good.

>> ^NetRunner:

@chilaxe both your #1 and #2 points seem to be based on the premise that life is fair. You seem to believe that all anyone needs to do to become a millionaire is a positive attitude and hard work.
That's not true.
As for #3, I'm a little lost on what you're talking about. I didn't say people should lie, I was trying to explain why "liberal" people would say "we don't care if it's true" about studies that would seem to lend credence to racial stereotypes. I'm sorta curious what you'd like to see people do differently as a result of those kinds of studies.
And assuming you mean this when talking about reprogenetics, I'm all for it. Here's my kicker though, I'll be demanding that it be covered under everyone's universal healthcare.
