Message to Americans From Canadian Doctors & Health Experts

Nithern says...

I agree with Detheter. This piece is very much 'Dead On". I recently heard some people complaining about the 'horrible canadian system'. Frankly, if Canadians hated their health care system, why are they not complaining that they want an 'American Styled' health care?

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts (there are 3 other commonwealths in the USA, VA, PA, and NY), has Mass Health. This was set up a few years ago, to cover all Mass residents. In fact, its about 2-3% of total residents that do not have Mass Health or some other health care coverage (its the law!). The cost to cover all 97-98% of Mass residents for 2010: $88 million. The Mass Budget for 2010 is $27 BILLION. That's right boys and girls, MA residents are only paying 1/3 of 1% of next year's total budget on health care. The system has its fair share of problems that have to be worked out. But its there, to cover those residents who the health care companies deny for a mired of reasons.

The signers of the Mass Health: then Govenor Mitt Romey (R), Sen. Ted Kennedy (D), Sen. John Kerry (D). They pushed Mass Health through, because they didnt have to worry about the liars and fear mongers from the Republican party (Mr. Rommey was trying to look good before the public for his run on the presidenticy....which he failed).

Seriouslly, the sort of crap I hear out of Republicans on this subject is astonishing and deeply sadding. There lacks alot of wisdom on thier part. No ability to have compassion for the sick, the eldarly, and the young. Unless, they stand to garner money from the cause at the same time. Funny that, these guys will keep (and fail) Health care from you and me, but are on goverment health insurance right now is a bit of hypnocrisy. But then, Republican Party = Hypocrites.

Looks like it could actually worth watching. To me Robin Williams is one of those comedians who is only good on the rare occasions when he does a more serious role, and not a wacky mainstream comedy. Bill Murry, Steve Martian, Jim Kerry and Adam Sandler all fall into that category.
Yes Adam Sandler was good in a movie once. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punch-Drunk_Love

Bill Murry, Steve Martian, and Jim Kerry?

You've never heard of those three? They're the off-brand, budget substitutes for the original, funnier comedians. They do bar mitzvah's and play at old-folks homes. Great fun, and they only charge $19/hour.

Fear Mongering About Health Care Reform From The Right Wing

Yogi says...

"What is a more democratic version of health care than having a democratic government running health care?"

Health Care is a stunning example of just how undemocratic America really is. For decades a majority of the population has wanted free and easily accessible health care up to 80% (polling and such). Yet in the 2004 election during one of the debates pundits pointed out that John Kerry didn't bring up the idea of Free Health Care because it has so little political support. So little meaning only a majority of the people, however it's the people that don't matter. In the 2008 elections it became a topic but not because we've become more democratic, it's because the system we have now costs a ridiculous amount of money. General Motors realized that it costs them $2000 more to make a car in Detroit than it does in Windsor (Canada). The state pays for health care so it's just much more efficient and cheaper, with better results than what we have now. So to recap, Free Health Care only because an issue that had Political support not when a majority of the public wanted it, but when business interests realized it was hurting their bottom line.

That doesn't sound like a very democratic society to me.

^ I think you like to state opinions as fact too often. You often claim that today's Democratic party is the same one that filibustered the Civil Rights Act, and that neoconservatives were liberals, and that somehow these things have relevance to the party of Obama.

Fine, if today's Democrats have to bear the stains of their history, despite transformations along the way, then I get to claim (as the Democratic party itself does) that Jefferson was our founder.

After all, the Democratic party is what survives of the Democratic-Republican party. It's not my fault John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson had a pissing contest that makes Hillary vs. Obama look like a friendly game of squash and split the party into competing factions. John Q. Adams formed the "Nobama" party of his day, Jackson figured it's okay to drop the word "Republican" from the name, since that No-Jackson-bama party called itself "National Republicans", and he didn't need a filthy word like "Republican" in the name of his party anymore.

So it split, and transformed, but it did that again in 1968 and again in lesser ways in the leadup to Clinton's election (the DLC Republican-lite era), and again after Kerry's loss (the Howard Dean 50-state era).

It's still the good old party Jefferson started, though. Jackson didn't invent the Democratic party out of thin air, he just pissed off a bunch of proto-PUMA's who ran off and made corrupt bargains to win the Presidency, who eventually formed the Whig party (which was the real, lasting No-Jackson-bama party).

Obama Thanks A Marine

peggedbea says...

i find this video and entire thread confusing and enraging! i dont understand! would a president not normally shake the marines hand? and why the fuck not?

also, my brother as in the army during the 04 election and far far far from being a bush supporter, BUT kerry saluted something and he got really offended by it and wouldnt vote for him either. so is it not ok to salute as a civilan? and if not, is it still not ok to salute if you USED to be in the military? i think my brother was just being a bitch though and votes 3rd party all the time anyway.
