George H.W. Bush, American War Criminal

bcglorf says...

I try and choose my words carefully, it looks like you are still responding to what you think I must mean, rather than what I said. You say you thought I meant jr and the recent war in Iraq when I reference Saddam’s invasion of Kuwait. I was in fact referencing no particular Iraq war, but the overall condition Iraq is in(as per the video and my own earlier reference to same. Maybe some room to misunderstand that, but my full quot if you can read it carefully this time:
“blaming Bush Sr. for Iraq, rather than Saddam's campaign of genocide against his own people and his conquest of Kuwait.”
I did specifically name Bush Sr, which At the least should rule out thinking I’m discussing anything done by Jr.

As for Sr’s war in Iraq, Kuwait was a province of the Iraqi state when Senior came in to liberate it. He also stopped short of removing Saddam, which was imo a mistake for Iraqi’s and the one thing I’d agree would be a fair accusation against him re the overall consition of Iraq today. It left Saddam time for another genocide against the Shia Iraqi’s that had risen up thinking Senior was serious about standing with them. Public opinion though was too much against it and so American forces stopped short of removing Saddam and followed popular opinion. Saddam’s WMD programs where dismantled(which he very much had then) and northern Iraq’s airspace remained occupied by Anerican forces right through until jr’s war. Saddam also continually decieved, obstructed and kicked out the UN inspectors in Iraq there to confirm his full and continued disarmament. Enough so that before jr’s war one of the most vocal anti-war inspectors cited Saddam’s almost certain possession and use of chemical weapons as a reason risking an invasion was too dangerous...

No sir.

I'm addressing his comment about the invasion of Iraq happening because of "Saddam's campaign of genocide against his own people and his conquest of Kuwait." when that's absolutely not how the invasion was sold to us by W. That's only partially how Desert Shield was sold by Sr. (Keeping in mind the gassing had happened years earlier), but that didn't remove or even target Saddam and barely went into Iraq, so clearly wasn't designed to remove him from power or stop his atrocities, just to stop his expansion into our allies territories.

The invasion of Iraq and direct targeting of Saddam was by W, not Sr. and are what led to the current state of the region far more than any result of Desert Storm...what I thought he meant by "blaming Sr. for Iraq"....I read that as 'blaming Sr. for the current state of Iraq and the region'.
I may have misunderstood what he meant by "blaming Sr for Iraq", but I can tell the difference between bushes.

No. That's not the issue.
The issue is that when you are to the right of Goebbels, everything looks liberal and honest truth looks like a partisan attack. The right has not just run far right, they put on rocket shoes with wheels and warped right. What was considered a hard right position 20 years ago is now called hyper liberal by your ilk.
There is no excuse for the garbage "reporting" going on....at Fox, OAN, and Info Wars. None. It's not really reporting when you make up 90% and use each other as sources.

Kavanaugh was treated like a prince compared to Garland, a centrist judge confirmed unanimously by republicans before they lost their minds and souls to become the party of "Fuck you".
Fusion thing? You mean his crappy dietary supplements that he claims could make you the Adonis that Jones himself is? Um...yeah, that's obviously and undeniably a pack of lies concocted by Alex Jones. Duh.

Again, you choose to conflate imperfection on the left with inhumanity and consistent dishonesty and fraud from the top leadership on the right.
Obama did better stopping undocumented migrants out than Trump has without dehumanizing them or calling them murderers and rapists in obvious racist ploys to get his racist base excited, but you certainly disagree because and are certain Trump has done more because Trump calls them rapists and murderers, and implies that any middle eastern is a terrorist (but not angry white guys with guns and mail bombs, those are good people).

There may be more than enough scum to go around, but one side is nothing but lying fraudulent scumbags now, and it's not the left. Trump is a convicted fraud who defrauded poor students (and charities, and anyone he ever did business with) and is 100% incapable of being truthful even when his words are written for him, and the dishonesty seeped through the party like Ebola, leaving none uninfected. You look at 2 children, one with some mud on its face, the other slathered head to toe like a golem, and you say they're both dirty, plenty of mud on both sides. *facepalm

Steve Schmidt on Trump 'Stoking And Inciting' Worst Among Us

Trump On Bullying Ford-"Doesn't Matter, We Won"

RFlagg says...

I have two boys, 9 and 14. If they treated people the way Trump, and most of the right, treats people, I'd be ashamed and reprimand them, especially if they did it publicly the way Trump has mocked a disabled reporter, Ford, the parents of fallen soldier... we could go on and on about how he mocks people on a regular basis. Every major religion has some variation of the Golden Rule, treat others as you'd have others treat you, especially Christianity, and yet the entire right ignores this rule, especially when it's somebody they oppose. Be it LGBTQIA+ people, political opponents, economic opponents, they ignore the Golden Rule. They in fact view it as a sign of strength to openly be hostile and rude to others, and yet, when one of theirs is mocked by late night TV, or when Sarah Sanders is kicked out of a restaurant (days after the fact that the entire right was celebrating the Supreme Court victory that they don't have to serve people they don't like), suddenly it is all "why can't people be civilized"? Plank in your own eye ass holes.

As Bob says politics is mean and ugly, but Republicans, Christians, made it that way and have been doubling down on it, ignoring the commandments to Love on another, the commandment to treat others as you'd have them treat you, not to judge least ye be judged and on and on. And somehow the right views that as a strength, as a good thing. They view McCain's efforts to reach across the isle and find a common center ground that everyone can agree on as a weakness. They don't want or will accept a 50/50 solution, they want a solution that is 80 or even better 90 percent on their side, and anything less than that is the other side being obstructionist.

Anyhow, if my kids acted the way Trump does, our President, whom we should hold to the highest standards, I'd make them apologize and be frank with them that I was appalled at their behavior, to mock a person with a disability or a woman or any other person the way Trump does on a regular basis. Yet the entire right is falling over themselves with pleasure at this rude behavior... I just don't get it. I don't get how that is acceptable behavior now from the President of the United States. It'd be one thing if he was still the piece of shit business man (who's business' constantly fail and need bankruptcy protection, even though he rarely pays contractors), 2nd rate reality TV show star, but this is the highest office in the land, where we should expect a person to act with dignity. I may have found Bush Jr to be an idiot and a horrible President, but at least he treated people with respect and the way one would expect of a President. Now we have a man-child and somehow this is a great thing. Fuck our lives when this is acceptable, when this is in fact praise worthy by far too many on the right (and I know, many Republicans said it was wrong of Trump to mock her the way he did, but they didn't really stand up to him, just a quick line to appease the few who might vote for them that would be appalled at that behavior).

EDIT TO ADD: What's upsetting about the Merrick Garland Supreme Court nomination is that they didn't even hold hearings. They had the votes to block him from confirmation, so hold hearings, say "no" and move on, but they wouldn't even do that. And he'd probably have been one of the most moderate justices in the modern era, which would have made explaining the "no" harder perhaps, but at least it would have been fair. But apparently fair is for the weak, one must play the ugly game now... and look at Bob's one reply, they got their eye on Ginsburg, they are hoping she dies so they can replace her with another theocrat like Kavanaugh, and because of that expectation and hope, you can guarantee that all the right will be out in force come November. We really need a miracle turnout to start to change things...

Officer pulls over daughter's boyfriend

Sagemind says...

A Lorain police officer was fired on May 11 following an internal investigation.

According to police and city officials, patrol officer John Kovach Jr. was terminated following an internal investigation in reference to an incident on April 16.

Lorain Mayor Chase Ritenauer confirmed the termination and added the Fraternal Order of Police, Lorain Lodge #3 is presently contesting the decision.

On April 16, Kovach is alleged to have initiated a traffic stop on West 34th Street without cause, briefly detaining his 18-year-old daughter and her 18-year-old boyfriend, who was behind the wheel, Lorain police officials said.

In a written statement, Kyle Gelenius, president of Fraternal Order of Police Lorain Lodge #3, said Kovach will be contesting his case through the arbitration process with a hearing scheduled for September. An initial grievance filed on May 11 seeking immediate reinstatement was denied on May 18.

“Officer Kovach is contesting his termination through the grievance procedure and is being afforded all of his contractual rights,” Gelenius wrote. “Because the Collective Bargaining Agreement stipulates that disciplinary procedures are private, I will reserve my comments until after the case has been decided. Nonetheless, Officer Kovach is looking forward to presenting his side of the story to a neutral arbitrator this coming September, when the arbitration is scheduled. We do not intend to try this discharge case in the media.”

In the grievance filing, the union contested the city’s right to terminate Kovach and raising questions about the city’s characterization of his conduct.

New Rule: Conspiracy Weary | Real Time with Bill Maher

Um....so nearly every person involved in the Trump campaign having Russian ties, many having been convicted of lying under oath about them doesn't count.....why?
Directly asking Putin to hack a political rival, which he does, then using that hack as a political tool/unreported campaign donation doesn't count.....why?
Clinton having official contact as part of her job as secretary of state counts....why?

No Bob. Those are not the same thing, that's why they are spelled, sound, and are defined differently. Not that surprising you're confused though. Words are hard....it's ok, buddy, keep trying, you'll get it.

Nope....not the only republican by far.....I specifically meant McConnell.

Yes, time will tell. This admission you've now made makes your repeated whining about how long the investigation has taken with no proof of direct collusion yet released (except the convictions and guilty pleas over subordinates collusion and consistently lying about it) pretty damn ridiculous.
In fact, clear Trump collusion has been found, it was just by Jr when he met Russians looking for dirt on Clinton but maybe not at the direction of daddy Trump because it's reasonable to think he's not a real leader, even of his campaign.
Yes, it's more likely the investigation will turn up other, far more easily prosecuted crimes, like campaign finance violations and more frauds, and never prosecute for hard to prove treason (unless Putin gets upset and turns over documents proving collusion). Recall, Ken Star was looking at Whitewater, which proved to be nothing more than a bad real estate deal the Clintons lost money on, but he did charge Clinton with non related crimes anyway.....5 years+- into his investigation. If you think Trump is cleaner or smarter than either Clinton, you're delusional. He's bragged about buying politicians for decades....on tape. That's not considered clean or smart by most people.

You spinning out of control Newt. Your Trolling does not bother me.

The ONLY Russian connection to the election was with the Hillary camp.

" Spy-a person who secretly collects and reports information on the activities, movements, and plans of an enemy or competitor.
Informant-a person who shares information." So a Spy and Informant are the same thing/ So there was a spy in the Trump camp.. Thanks for admitting it.

Gowdy is is the only Republican supporting Muller investigation.

Time will tell where the Muller investigation leads, Maybe a blue dress somewhere, but it will have nothing to do with Trump Russian collusion.

fox news slam President Obama an praise trump over the thing

MilkmanDan says...

To be fair, I'm sure that examples could be found of media personalities praising Obama/Clinton for similar stuff that they ragged Bush Sr./Jr. for. Best example off the top of my head might be Bush's "terrible war crimes" vs Obama's "brilliant use of drones".

Now, that all comes with a big disclaimer from me. I disliked Obama's expansion of drone bombing, flip-flop in in-office stance vs campaign stance on whistleblower protection, etc. But, I'd still personally evaluate Bush's, uh, miscues as overwhelmingly worse than Obama's. All I'm saying is that there have certainly been talking heads that have been hypocritical in the other direction before.

That being said, this clip takes it to a whole other level. This isn't nuanced, this is blatant. The only rational explanation is that Fox News simply is that biased, shamelessly so (no surprise to most of us). The problem is that Fox News' audience isn't particularly swayed by rational explanations.

I think clearing that "reality distortion field" is something that takes lots of time and lots of indisputable evidence. That's why I basically hope that Trump gets plenty of leash to try (and fail) to fulfill all of his ridiculous promises and self-hype. Nothing like a pointless and decaying border wall to serve as a reminder to be careful about who's cult of personality you get sucked into...

"Batman Ninja" trailer (English language)

newtboy says...

Says you. ;-)
I've always been entertained by kaiju movies (until sci-fi channel got involved), in large part because of the terrible dialog and dubbing, but also the dead pan seriousness. When they have tried to be silly, like Godzilla Jr, it always fell flat for me.
As for kung fu, I feel that the bad dialogue adds a needed comedy element often otherwise missing. I thought Kung Pow was hilarious and inventive because of intentionally terrible dubbing.

I do agree, this bastardization has some glaring issues...that doesn't mean it can't still be fun.

jmd said:

But that is because the movie is so bad to begin with. I hate dubs with a passion because most often the voice does not match the actor like originally intended by the director. Also in the case of japan animations, voice acting is a highly competitive career market over there which means there are many top tier actors to choose from. Liscensed dubs on the other hand deal with a lot of frequently contracted actors in a market that isn't bursting with talent.

Also the plot of this animation seems pretty ridiculous. I would have let the batman and joker pass but when everyone else in the batman universe, even the god damn butler, showes up I was like

What MLK actually said about cars and advertising (Dodge)

00Scud00 says...

Advertisers didn't put this on our screens? Who did then? The Keebler Elves? The Commercial Fairy? Aliens?
No, advertisers made it, for Dodge (yes I know Dodge is owned by Fiat, but that doesn't get them off the hook imho) and they then ran it by the estate of Martin Luther King Jr, who actually signed off on this.
The King family is however not pleased by this, which confuses me to no end as it sounds like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is up to.

Payback said:

Advertisers did NOT put this on your screen. Dodge employees did NOT put this on your screen. An Italian shitbox car company did. Try to remember that.
