Such a great show. Died before it's time. sniff
But... how is this not in the greatest quotes? I guess maybe it is a scene instead of a quote.

Every once in awhile I pull out Firefly and watch them. To me it's just like Arrested Development...I could feel like crap and it'll make me feel amazing. I wish there was more but I'm damn grateful that there was something.

Sometimes it's best things die early before they sour. I pretend the first and second seasons of Battlestar Galactica are all that exist!

What gives you more pleasure, Final Fantasy or Robot Chicken ? @kceaton1

If I could have both at the same time like this, it would be completely obvious.

Otherwise, it's Robot Chicken. Now if we could create a videogame-Robot Chicken-Spielberg/Lucas/Nolan/James Cameron/Ridley/Peter Jackson/Guillermo del Toro /Joss Whedon (to keep the others on the up & up) and then Hans Zimmer/Williams (I know)/Jerry Goldsmith/Trent Reznor/Cliff Martinez/ & Dennis McCarthy for sound. Lot's of the people involved would innately clean up mistakes (like Lucas at some point; for example).

It would be the best thing ever...

Firefly: Jayne - "I'll be in my bunk"

kceaton1 says...

I miss Firefly. I think this is when I started to hate Fox a lot. Their response to SyFy taking it (or others; all of them knowing that the show was a sure win/win, but Fox being paranoid held onto it with a vice grip--why the hell did they do that? They gave away Futurama, so what was their beef with this little show?

At least, we got a movie. It explained most everything except Shepard Book and the "blue hands".

The writing on that show is still considered by me to be the best ever made/created. Writing on some shows are great, but the "change-up" in the vernacular was dead-on for every show. Which created another reason to watch. The writing style reminds me of Buffy+Leverage+George R.R. Martin novels (the character's responses and internal monologues)+ a little of Star Trek minus the campy tech talk or "Voyager solutions".

It's still sad to not have that around. I can only imagine what that series would be like now. All of the characters were likable and had individual flaws. Jane is a great example of this.

So again fuck you Fox (especially, the board responsible for the half-witted and half-ass job they did in managing it--yeah, I know they're gone know; hence the changes with Seth & Family Guy, Futurama, and allowing Joss Whedon to try another show...)

What will define the 2010 decade? (Politics Talk Post)

gwiz665 says...

The great dispel.

Supernatural claims are quashed as the information flows free over the Internet or whatever replaces it when Telecommunication Companies try to stifle it with data tax.

God is banished into even smaller gaps to hide in.

The tone of politics will erupt and recede back to a less aggressive stance.

America will economically continue to decline while China and the eastern countries rise.

China's continuing social and technological advances will cause weather problems unlike what we've seen so far, if they have to go through the same dirty steps we in the western world did. Eventually, the western world will hopefully help them to skip the worst ecological steps in the energy production.

Entertainment will continue its current trend of getting more and more personalized. The same will happen with news. The two will merge and it will be hard to tell them apart.

The Simpsons will continue all through the decade. Futurama will be cancelled again. South Park will hit dire straits but continue nonetheless. Family Guy will continue. American Dad will be cancelled. Cleveland Show will be cancelled. Joss Whedon will make a new show; it will be cancelled.

3D will fail.

The Optical Discs (cd, dvd, bluray etc) will vanish and Solid State Disks will be common place.

Telephones will become wallets and Cash will be obsolete, only used by people who don't yet embrace the digital credit/debit card.

Facebook will only continue to grow and the 2010 will see people as far more connected. The Internet will reach more people than ever before, and the speeds will increase in general, but not unexpectedly so.

Computers will continue their trend of getting "wider" instead of "higher" - more cores will be added, frequencies will on average reach 4-5 GHz but not much higher. Processor companies will hit the physical ceiling on their processors when they cannot make the process any smaller with silicon. Quantum processors will start to show signs of life and might even start to become marketable.

Global Warming will continue to happen like it does now, it won't be catastrophically bad, but it will be there. Emissions in the west will lower, but the east will offset it. If Africa starts getting in gear it will only get worse.

Polls will show that Obama will not be reelected, but in debates he will flatten the opponent and he will get four more years. Fox will claim foul play and try to foul play the other way. Jon Stewart will cover it and it will be hilarious. Also, netrunner will sift it.

The Sift will change form from what we know now. I hope it will last, but it's hard to say at this point.

More things will happen. Good and bad.

Conan visits the Warner Brothers animation building - Part 2

I've heard from a number of DC fans that would-be good heroes have few or no interesting villains, so I guess I'm not surprised to hear it about WW too. The Flash is one that sticks out, in particular. I don't actually know who any of his villains are, and maybe that's exactly the point.

I'm sure a Joss Whedon movie would be huge, though I personally feel like Joss Whedon destroys everything he touches. I don't care how many awards Astonishing X-Men wins, it was and is a huge stain on the X-Men. Only after several years have they been able to fix or explain some of the character destruction he wrote.

As for the over-sexualization of female characters, I generally feel this isn't the case. Are the women sexy? Absolutely. Aren't the men also? These are all people who are in unrealistically good physical shape and spend nearly all their time in skin-tight clothes. Whether or not they are over-sexualized is a matter of opinion, but I have a hard time believing the women are more sexualized than the men. Is this Batgirl cover really any sexier than this cover for The Web?

Of course I'm generalising; there are certain artists that absolutely tend to go over the top; but I don't feel that comics in general are overdone. I also don't think that a bit of sex-appeal is harmful (either in the "think of the children!" sense or harmful to the characters and story).

I'll grant you that early Wonder Woman comics often played up bondage themes, but I haven't seen that exploitation post-Crisis.

I can't speak for all DC superheroes, but I think several good writers have really given Wonder Woman a well-rounded personality. Conversely, some have made her flat as paper. Still, I admire the character. If she had consistently good writing and a few top-notch villains (Cheetah's good, but the others are somewhat lacking) she'd be a top seller every month.

For a while Joss Whedon was attached to a Wonder Woman live-action film, but he's not now. If they could get him back I'm sure it would be a great film, and Wonder Woman's popularity would skyrocket like Batman's did after the Nolan films. Unfortunately the WW film is still in development hell, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.>> ^xxovercastxx:

I was pretty much a Marvel-only type of kid; the two-dimensional DC characters could never hold my attention.
That said, early Wonder Woman stories were (in)famous for being riddled with bondage & domination themes. WW lost her powers when she was tied up, so she was constantly being chained, cuffed and restrained. It was no accident; her creator was very open about his intent and (confusingly) somehow felt that women being tied up was empowering them.
Power Girl was a parody of the over-sexualization of women in comics right from the get-go, but became very popular in spite of it.
>> ^kronosposeidon:
Superhero comics are pretty much where US comics started (the Golden Age). In the superhero genre I like Wonder Woman, but I'll be the first to admit that story quality has varied wildly over the years. That's what happens when you have a character who's almost 70 years old: You get good writers, and you get bad writers. Same goes for the artists. Maybe the whole superhero-type mythology ain't your bag, but that's cool. To each his own.
I don't see the softcore porn aspect that you mention, at least not in the superhero comics I've read, and I've read a lot of Wonder Woman, and a little Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern. (I stick to the DC universe. It's hard to keep up with just one universe of superheroes. Learning the Marvel characters would be too much for my poor brain.) You'll see some ample cleavage with some of the ladies (Wonder Woman and Power Girl, I'm looking at you), but never more than that, and no sexual body parts of either sex are ever grabbed or fondled. That's what I think of when you say "softcore."
I like other types of comics and graphic novels too, but I think I've established my nerd credentials by now.

LMFAHS. That was fantastic. I've never seen this show, but I'm starting now. I hope it's still on the air.

It's not made by Joss Whedon so the magic 8 ball says "Chances are good it's still on the air".

A Magic 9 Ball corollary says "it's not too smart for most people."
