Waiting for Armageddon

shang says...

my favorite was the Left Behind series by Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins... Great fucking series!

If things start happening like is in Left Behind series and some singular person gets israel and palestine to sign a peace treaty, then I will believe 100% that shit is about to hit the fan and prophecy will be fulfilled, since israel and palestine 7 year peace treaty is supposed to be the first act of the antichrist since the antichrist comes as the perfect peace and globalization politician and unites the world in peace... but that peace only supposed to last 3 and half years before christian persecution begins.

course agnostic, but one of the signs have already started since the 90's atheists openly attacking, belittling and hating christians more and more is a sign and 1948 israel becoming a nation is the first. Which is why lot believe IF things follow a path, then 1948 is what kicked things off.

But regardless it is very interesting times, if we don't kill ourselves first or rise up and slay our politicians we'll soon be in full blown persecution of a police state.

hell right now places like Sweden and Iceland enjoy way more freedoms than USA does, USA has lost it's freedom, political correctness has ruined USA

Tolkein to me is the Stanley Kubrik of fiction books - to fans he's untouchable; to the few of us who aren't into it, he's long-winded and self-indulgent. People are going to throw things at me for saying this, but he could have written a much better story in two books than three

No one is going to throw things at you. Reading is a very individual experience. Not everyone is going to or has to like the same stuff any more than they have to like the same clothes or food. Your tastes in literature are just different. Nothing wrong with that.

I personally felt that every Harry Potter book (after Azkaban) could be cut in half and it would have made a far better reading experience. But to some people that would be blasphemy. I got sick of JK "The Exposition" Rowling pulling the Scooby-Doo revelation of the "Old Man Jenkins du jour" mystery at the end of every book. She took chapters and chapters to do it - sometimes hundreds of pages - and she's so addicted to exposition that she invented entire plot devices just so she could do more of them (Pensieve, I'm lookin' at you). But to some readers that was good stuff. Me - I skimmed right past it. If Tolkien's descriptions of terrain, histories, and such bog you down then just skim 'em.

Sometimes I feel bad that some folks don't get the same soul-rush I get from LOTR's language though. But there it is. You either appreciate that aspect of a text or you don't. To some people JRR's perfect craftsmanship, literary power, and brightness of theme/setting have no value - just as Rowling's redundant expositions mean nothing to me.

When I walked out of my first showing of the Fellowship of the Ring movie, I was pretty jazzed. I felt the movie (while having flaws) still managed to capture the essence of the story which was loyalty, honor, and sacrifice in the face of temptation and darkness. I heard some gal talking to her friend walking out of the movie saying how boring it was, how stupid parts were, and how the whole thing dragged out way longer than it should. Two different people with totally different opinions about the same thing. One person saw value, depth, and goodness. The other was just bored. Same logic applies to the book.

Guy Vs Fox News at Occupy Wall Street

If you told me that this interview was staged by Occupy Wall Street, I'd probably believe it. Not because of the points he made, but because he was able to make them. That reporter was unusually polite for Fox News.

Know your Meme: Leeroy Jenkins

Yogi says...

I was on a plane one time minding my own business and some girls behind me were yelling "LEEROY JENKINS!" and laughing hysterically. Turns out they were in my group and I asked them what server they play WoW on. They had no idea what I was talking about...I found it kinda interesting that this meme has gone behind WoW when it's just so silly.

Note his jibe towards fellow crackpots Jack Van Impe, Hal Lindsey and John Hagee at 3:20. Hal Lindsey is particularly interesting since he is the most important inspiration for Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, the authors of the atrocious "Left Behind" books. The premillenial dispentionalist subculture of evangelical christianity is rife with such bickering between adherents of different nuances in their so-called "literal" reading of the Bible.

Bill O'Reilly Sends Producer To Stalk Alan Grayson

Bill O'Reilly Sends Producer To Stalk Alan Grayson

EndAll says...

I just got this e-mail from his campaign newsletter:

Dear ---,

On Wednesday, Fox News's professional stalker Griff Jenkins stalked me all day, and then ambushed me, just so he could get some footage of me asking him to make an appointment. And sure enough, Bill O'Reilly put that footage on the air, and I was deluged with angry phone calls from Republican voters who think it's my job to be at Fox's beck and call. This is not surprising. The Republican Party is a now a wholly owned subsidiary of Fox News.

Well, I won't be taken down by Fox's weapons of mass distraction. I'm focused on saving lives and saving money. On Wednesday, on the House floor, I read the names and stories of some of the 44,000 Americans who die each year from a lack of health care.

I did this to honor them. These unnecessary, senseless deaths. That's real news, which Fox didn't spend one minute on. Instead, Fox News hectored me about whether I hurt Dick Cheney's feelings. Enough is enough.

Please join me and show Fox News and the Republican Party that we won't be bullied by them. Show them what's important to us: saving lives. On November 2, one year before my reelection, we will have a "money bomb," where progressives from all over the country are joining to support our reelection. Please pledge to our campaign here:

http://www.CongressmanWithGuts.com

These Republican bullies are opposed to the change that America wants, America needs, and America voted for last year. 88% of Fox News viewers voted for George W. Bush in 2004. Fox News sends a memo to its mouthpieces every day, giving them "talking points" designed to damage Democrats. And they call this "news"!

I am a strong voice for justice, and so they stalk me.

Let's stand together and fight back.

Please show your support at http://www.CongressmanWithGuts.com.

More than 3,000 people have pledged over $200,000 for our November 2 "money bomb," one year before the next election. Show them that the people, united, will never be defeated. Show them that we will have the support we need to get reelected and keep fighting for a better America. Please join us.

It is time to get greed off the agenda. It's time to put conscience back on the agenda. Fox News has a perpetual news blackout on people without health coverage who die from it, people with health insurance who don't get the care they need, seniors who can't pay for the medicine they need to stay alive -- in short, everything that actually matters in the lives of ordinary people. Fox News has a news blackout on everything but fake tea party protests and ambushes in the halls of Congress. Enough is enough.

Thank you for helping us stay focused and save American lives.

Courage,

Alan Grayson

Rep. Jenkins Tells Uninsured Single Mom To Be A Grown-Up

Where is Canada? If America can pay for all the Mexican illegal invaders' emergency room visits, shouldn't CANADA, who believes the WHOLE WORLD should have "free" health care, step in and rescue this poor woman?

SOMETIMES WE DO. YOU'RE WELCOME.

We also fight your war.

*edit*

There are plenty of recorded incidents where U.S. citizens cross the border, and go see Canadian doctors. Your ignorance is astounding, your argument patently false and indicative of many of your nations citizens who are poorly educated about Canada.

The Difference between Canadian health care and American health care.

"On average, U.S. citizens experience some of the shortest wait times for non-emergency
surgeries among industrialized countries, although the waiting times vary considerably by
procedure [11]. Furthermore, the short waiting times apply mainly to those who have insurance;
for those who do not, the waiting line is arguably infinite."

See the words "for those who do not" in this report on a comparison between US and Canadian waiting times. Yeah, we have some pretty weak things that are going on in our country, in regards to health care. No one is perfect. However, that line, that simple statement "for those who do not" does not exist in Canada.

That is why any argument you can put forward, ie. advances in equipment, wait times, or by my accounts minimal (or, in redneck, - fascist) government oversight, or the treatment of our aboriginal population, any of these arguments fall flat in the face of these following arguments

- Everyone is on the waiting lists that need to be, yet the quality of care does not go down, and we live longer, and people can move up on the waiting lists in case of urgency. (If you show up at the emergency room and need an operation or procedure to save your life, it is provided, free of cost, as with your recuperation and aftercare. Waiting lists are in part a result of brain drain to your stupid country where doctors are paid more, to prescribe unnecessary care to people who don't know any better to enlarge their paychecks, while patients are dropped at fire halls upon discovery that they are uninsured, disgusting behavior I might add.)

- Everyone, including the aboriginal populations in our country, get health care, instead of being denied. Fuck, you almost completed a genocide against your population, am I incorrect? Anyways, I digress. What I love about our system, is an accurate quote from an msnbc article, that reads, "Most have made their appointments that day. None will receive a bill." - You also tax your citizens to go to war in far flung corners of the earth for national security, a government run entity, and yet you balk at the very idea of sending tax dollars towards health care, which SHOULD be a government run organization.

- Our prescription drugs cost much less in our country because pharmaceutical war- i mean, druglords, aren't giving us hourly corporate mandated rectal exams here in the great white north. Huzza! That is why there is a billion dollar industry for us, and that market comes from desperate Americans, unable to afford the medicine that allows them to function, add to their economy, be productive in their society, and not worry about their health care, and thus are free to pursue their liberty, and justice for all. Cue Metallica. (?)

Idiot.

Rep. Jenkins Tells Uninsured Single Mom To Be A Grown-Up

NetRunner says...

Rep. Jenkins: I think we can agree we need reforms, again it’s just how we gonna do it. I believe people should be given the opportunity to take care of themselves with an advancebale tax credit to go be a grown-up and go buy the insurance.

Oh, so then you're in favor of the Obama plan which mostly just gives people a subsidy to buy private insurance, along with consumer protections that guarantee eligibility?

No? Is it the fact that it's using the word "subsidy" instead of "advanceable tax credit"? We can change the language to use the Republican name for entitlement programs, but it won't make a bit of difference in terms of the effect.

Another Cops Beating The Crap Out Of Arrested Man Video

curiousity says...

Video in link below shows a small portion where the man was just out of his car and the police officer put him in a neck hold. But it's been edited also, so it's hard to see anything before that.

http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2009/08/17/police-car-footage-of-derryl-jenkins-arrest/
EDITED FOR BREVITY

Derryl Jenkins, 42, was stopped for speeding in February. A criminal complaint obtained by FOX 9 says Jenkins was driving 15 mph over the speed limit in the area of Dowling Ave. and Penn Ave. in north Minneapolis.

At the time, Minneapolis police said Jenkins smelled of alcohol, refused to give his license and became irate. When Jenkins attempted to get out of the car, an officer pushed him back in. The two then started fighting, before several more officers arrived on the scene.

The officer statements obtained by FOX 9, say several police officers kicked him and punched him because he was resisting. A Taser was also used to subdue Jenkins.

Jenkins' attorney says charges in that case where eventually dropped, but he's now considering a lawsuit against the Minneapolis Police Department.

Minneapolis Police Chief Tim Dolan has reviewed the dash cam video of officers beating a man stopped for speeding and says he will ask the FBI to review the video

After reviewing the video, Dolan released the following statement Monday:

"I have reviewed the videos of the arrest of Mr. Jenkins by Officer Walker. Hand to hand fighting with a suspect on the street is one of the most dangerous encounters for police officers. Officer Walker’s actions all appear to be very appropriate.

Some of the actions of responding officers, specifically the kicking of the suspect, give me concern; because of this, I am asking for an outside review by the FBI. Additionally, the incident has been referred to my Internal Affairs and Training Units for a review of our arrest procedures in dealing with suspects resisting arrest."
