Luke Kelly Rocky Road to Dublin

ctrlaltbleach says...

I have know Idea what he was singing about.

edit
In the merry month of May, From my home I started,
Left the girls of Tuam, Nearly broken hearted,
Saluted father dear, Kissed my darlin' mother,
Drank a pint of beer, My grief and tears to smother,
Then off to reap the corn, And leave where I was born,
I cut a stout blackthorn, To banish ghost and goblin,
In a brand new pair of brogues, I rattled o'er the bogs,
And frightened all the dogs,On the rocky road to Dublin.

One, two, three, four five,
Hunt the hare and turn her
Down the rocky road
And all the ways to Dublin,
Whack-fol-lol-de-ra.

In Mullingar that night, I rested limbs so weary,
Started by daylight, Next mornin' light and airy,
Took a drop of the pure, To keep my heart from sinkin',
That's an Irishman's cure, Whene'er he's on for drinking.
To see the lasses smile, Laughing all the while,
At my curious style, 'Twould set your heart a-bubblin'.
They ax'd if I was hired, The wages I required,
Till I was almost tired, Of the rocky road to Dublin.

In Dublin next arrived, I thought it such a pity,
To be so soon deprived, A view of that fine city.
Then I took a stroll, All among the quality,
My bundle it was stole, In a neat locality;
Something crossed my mind, Then I looked behind;
No bundle could I find, Upon my stick a wobblin'.
Enquirin' for the rogue, They said my Connacht brogue,
Wasn't much in vogue, On the rocky road to Dublin.

From there I got away, My spirits never failin'
Landed on the quay As the ship was sailin';
Captain at me roared, Said that no room had he,
When I jumped aboard, A cabin found for Paddy,
Down among the pigs I played some funny rigs,
Danced some hearty jigs, The water round me bubblin',
When off Holyhead, I wished myself was dead,
Or better far instead, On the rocky road to Dublin.

The boys of Liverpool, When we safely landed,
Called myself a fool; I could no longer stand it;
Blood began to boil, Temper I was losin',
Poor ould Erin's isle They began abusin',
"Hurrah my soul," sez I, My shillelagh I let fly;
Some Galway boys were by, Saw I was a hobble in,
Then with a loud hurray, They joined in the affray.
We quickly cleared the way, For the rocky road to Dublin.

TV crew wait for someone to slip on the ice

Sorry Heathen, I agree with you. Geographicaly speaking Ireland is part of the British Isles. However, you will be hung drawn and quartered by an Irishman if you implied that his country was British. It's like calling a Canadian an American or an Israeli a Palestinian.

Or calling an American anything other than an American...

Daniel Dennett - Is Science Showing We Don't Have Free Will?

gwiz665 says...

dannym: The reason we cannot accurately predict the future in our universe, is that because we exist inside the universe, the mere fact that we start measuring means we change the result. If you could observe the universe from outside the universe and account for every detail, then we live in a deterministic universe. This means that in the strictest sense, we do not have free will. We however have the most free will of anything we've ever observed, and thus our society is made as though we have free will, and we live as though we have free will.

We can never break our free will, because we live inside our own universe, in which it seems that we do have free will.

Irishman: Science has plenty to say about free will. Religion too, but that's mostly because it serves their purpose - if God is all knowing, all powerful etc. we need free will to have any form of morality to be distinct from him, if we don't have free will then everything bad that happens because of people is his fault. I think that's why free will was invented in the first place (but there probably is an evolutionary reason for its existence).

Olbermann Offers $1000/sec For Hannity Waterboarding

>> ^Irishman:
" And now, EIGHT fucking years later, US television says its OK to start talking about it, and so the internets are suddenly awash with all this waterboarding stuff.
I actually find it insulting to watch ANY of these American TV pundits talking about this, when none of them said a damn thing when it was going on for EIGHT YEARS.
Shame on them, and shame on the American television media.

Are you insane? Have you been living under a rock? We've been YELLING AND SCREAMING about this for the last eight years, but because the damned whitehouse was controlled by white, right-winged, religious NUTS we couldn't get a review of what was going on...
