make. a mark by making a chess move, with public.

Interesting contraption, now they need a chess master that can draw a picture with his winning chess moves, the scribbles do nothing for me.

Tesla Turbine

This is all true and it's a very cool turbine, but it doesn't scale up due to the forces on the disks.

Here's a nice explanation of how it works and why it won't scale: *related=https://videosift.com/video/Tesla-Turbine-The-interesting-physics-behind-it

Cowboy prank in Brisbane city

It's nice to see how other people think.

Some time within about the last year I thought that since new content was running a bit low I changed my thinking on what I'd post. I started posting more obscure Monty Python stuff, and also videos that I didn't think were good enough for me to vote up, but that others might like.

This is why I also have a few 0s floating around.

Interestingly, a few that I've posted and not voted grew on me enough to vote for. My mind doesn't seem to do what I tell it to.

Trump just lost his $100 million defamation suit against his niece, 3 reporters, and The NY Times for exposing the decades of tax fraud he and his father engaged in to build their fortune (as well as redlining) that got them a Pulitzer. 😂

The suit was so frivolous he has to pay all their attorney fees because….get this…his lawsuit was trying to go after them for what is clearly PROTECTED FIRST AMENDMENT SPEECH! Trump absolutely HATES paying lawyers.

So much for his public (but not tried in court because it’s nonsense) defense that his trials are about first amendment protected speech which he reveres….but clearly only for himself.

At some point, he should realize he hasn’t won in court in years and isn’t going to win any of his criminal trials either. His lawyers are all getting disbarred and put in prison, which should be a good indicator of the quality of their legal advice. Never hire YES men to be your lawyers…often your lawyer’s job is to tell you NO!

As a bonus, filings indicate Trump inflated his net worth by 50%, but I think that’s minimizing his exaggeration since in some cases like Maralago he was claiming in sworn financial documents it was a single family residence he could sell for $750 million but in reality it’s valued by the county at $19 million and is only zoned as a social club, not a residence. D’oh! How funny will it be when he can’t come up with the $250 million judgement even after selling his interest in all his properties. He already can’t pay his criminal attorneys and judgements…he couldn’t even come up with $200k bail, he needed a bond!

As a second bonus, the case to disqualify him on the 14th in Michigan has been filed. It’s a winner. But by all means, don’t let that convince you to stop supporting him blindly. We want him to be the nominee, it’s a guaranteed sweep for Democrats if he is.

Proud Boy Joseph Biggs is going to be standing back and standing by for 17 years! He should have gotten 30 with a terrorism enhancement, but his Trump appointed judge felt sorry for him. Cried a river at sentencing. 😂

😂 In Trumps deposition in NY he blamed all the fraud his company committed on his son Eric (omitting Don Jr who was clearly in charge during his presidency)…not sure how he thinks that’s a defense, Eric and Don Jr only ran it (on paper) after 2017, but the crimes charged go back decades.
He said he just didn’t have time to run his businesses, but must have forgotten he had plenty of time to fly to different states (or countries) to play golf at least 298 times during his tenure (at a Cost to Taxpayers of About $144,000,000 according to the GAO)
So, he blames his dumb son for absolutely no defense, just as deflection that reminds everyone what an absentee “always on vacation” president he was. That’s the loyalty he has for others. This is you guy, this you pick.

Is the US Headed Towards Another Civil War? | Barbara F. Wal

Interesting enough, even if the actual content could probably have been condensed to 2 minutes. The thing that really lost me, though, was that she said she interviewed ex Sinn Fein members in Northern Ireland but couldn't pronounce "Sinn Fein". I really hope it was just a once-off slip of the tongue.

Let's talk about Trump, Georgia, $200,000, and bail....

newtboy says...

Then why is he whining and crying about it so much? 😂
Why is he floating his plan to flee to Russia?
Don’t be a bit surprised to hear he has, pretending to board his plane (maybe using his double) but switching planes on the tarmac to some oligarch’s plane and being in Russian air space before his plane lands. If he goes to the West coast or Alaska, we’ll all know he’s running away. You think he’s joking about running….he’s not.

I think there’s a really good chance that $200000 is a significant percentage of his liquid cash, it could be more than he has personally…he’s been reduced to using political donations for his legal fees, he may in fact be completely flat broke or even underwater….you know he doesn’t own his properties, right? The banks own them.

The $200000k is nothing, it’s the conditions of release that he’s already broken that will put him in jail, possibly tomorrow because he broke the order the day after agreeing to the terms. Don’t be surprised if when he turns himself in for arraignment he’s put directly in jail, or his bail is raised significantly for already making threats against court officers after agreeing not to. His lawyers are already worried about exactly that.

Trump’s biggest problem is two fold 1) prosecutors are going to court to force defendants to get new council not paid for by Trump without massive conflicts of interest, and 2) big surprise once they have lawyers looking out for them instead of Trump they are all suddenly taking the immunity deals and recanting their false testimony Trump’s lawyers coached them to give and instead of “I don’t remember” they are answering questions. This has happened a number of times recently, and will likely happen more now that the codefendents are seeing their cohorts getting off Scott free for telling the truth instead of facing decades in prison for protecting Trump by lying. This is the end, they have him dead to rights on numerous cases now, with video evidence backing up all the statements now being made by his codefendents. Very few are prepared to go to prison for him, and he needs everyone to stay silent to stay out! 91 felony charges and counting, any one of which is a life sentence for the morbidly obese rapist, many of which are state charges no one can pardon. 😂

Neil DeGrasse Tyson on Why Humans Are SO DUMB

newtboy says...

To nitpick, he never says WHY we are so dumb, only that when compared to real intelligence we likely ARE so dumb we will be lucky if we are seen as moderately bright animals.

In the end he reverted to Tarantino…”There are known known (things we know), known unknowns (things we know we don’t know), and unknown unknowns (things we don’t even know we don’t know)”…I agree the unknown unknowns are the most interesting by far.

Vox: How cruise ships got so big

newtboy says...

Interesting history.

My parents, already divorced, travelled on the ridiculously opulent QE2 in the late 80’s…(I thought it was its last Atlantic crossing but google says no.)

I’ve been on one cruise, on https://seadream.com/, which at the time accommodated 100 passengers and the same number of crew. It spoiled me for these giant ships. Crowds, buffets, kids, only major ports…ugh. The personal service, 5 star food and drinks, tiny unknown ports of call on exotic Virgin islands with no crowds, and only older respectful passengers was perfect…we were the second youngest couple there at 50. I highly recommend it despite the price.

Storing dead people at -196°C

newtboy says...

It’s not a huge deal…unless it catches on, but it hasn’t yet.
Absolutely there are more wasteful endeavors, that doesn’t make this any more sane or responsible though.
Absolutely again agreeing with disagreeing that death is bad. Death is not only necessary, it’s what makes life interesting. Immortality is a curse, one I wouldn’t wish on even the ultra rich….nor would I wish for an ultra rich immortal caste.

Nice…..Yeah yeah…CBG is hyperbolic….everything can’t be the worst ever….or can it?

I don't get the big deal. People ask for stupid things to be done to their remains, including things that they think will give the everlasting life (albeit in heaven). This is more wasteful per corpse and I hope the practice doesn't get popular for that reason, but I'd say the waste pales in comparison to something like bitcoin mining.

I found the video itself interesting enough, particularly since it wasn't advocating the practice in any way.

I do disagree with the 'death is bad' premise, even though someone very close to me was recently given a few years to live. If no one dies we get unsustainable buildup of humans, and if only some people get to live forever that's probably worse.

You think that's the worst idea ever? In the immortal words of the jailer from Life Of Brian, it's not as bad as something I just thought up.
