Julian Assange Hit Piece In New York Times

shagen454 says...

The corporate news are the sources and encyclopedias for American Traitors.

American media is free to most extents. Just have to get it distributed and then not bought out by a bunch of wealthy dicks who just want to corrupt every message for their own gain. Maybe the problem is that we keep reinforcing the idea of what the American media is. I for one say Democracy Now and the Huffington Post and Indymedia are true American media outlets.

"Give me your name and address or I'll rape you LOL"

moodonia says...

The key moments are outlined at the start in the text, I suffered through the whole thing but thought it was worth posting it for completeness and context etc.

There is a partial transcript available here: http://www.indymedia.ie/article/99445
[ These transcripts, as well as the recording, were provided to the mainstream media by the Rossport Solidarity Camp. The Gardaí in question were named in the original transcripts. The Irish Times changed the name of the Sergeant to “Garda A” and changed the name of the other Garda to “Garda B”. Rossport Solidarity Camp also decided to remove the names of the Gardaí before publishing here, but changed the Sergeant’s name to “Sergeant” and the other named Garda to “Garda A”, and incorporated this into the video file on Vimeo. Hence there seems to be an inconsistency between the Irish Times transcripts and the Indymedia transcripts, but there is not. “Garda B” in the Irish Times is “Garda A” on Indymedia and Vimeo. ]

Sergeant: “Who is them two lassies, do you know the two of them?
Garda A: “I don’t know the second one, the first one is with blonde hair.”
Unidentified Garda: “She was up on the tractor earlier on.”
Sergeant: “It’d do no harm to get the second one’s name again?
Garda A: “She’s some Yank. I don’t know who the fuck she is.”
Unidentified Garda: “ Is she a Yank?
Garda A: “It sounds like it, it sounds like it, the accent anyway
Unidentified Garda: “Sounds like a Yank or Canadian.”
Garda A: “Well whoever, we’ll get Immigration fucking on her.”
Sergeant: “She refused to give her name and address and told she would be arrested.”
Garda A: “.......and deported”
Sergeant: “And raped.”
Garda A: “I wouldn’t go that far yet….. She was living down at that crusty camp, fuck sake, you never know what you might get.”
Sergeant: “Give me your name and address or I’ll rape you.”
Unidentified Garda: “Hold it there, give me your name and address there, I’ll rape you.”
Sergeant: “Or I’ll definitely rape you.”
Unidentified Garda: “Will you be me friend on Facebook?”

The protest website is here: http://www.shelltosea.com including audio of a second incident in 2006 where the following exchange takes place:
Mr Monaghan: "Do you see the XL on the thing -- that's his mouth."
Garda: "It's my c**k and your f***ing wife will know all about it. I hope you're recording all that now, John."
Mr Monaghan: "Any more comments about my wife?"
Garda: "I don't know the woman.

Here is a documentary covering the protest and police handling:

Chumbawamba - "Tubthumping": Yeah, I get knocked down too...

Krupo says...

Didn't even get through reading the article when writing the last comment - this tidbit from Wiki is so punk I love it: "General Motors paid Chumbawamba $100,000 to use the song "Pass It Along" for a Pontiac Vibe television advertisement in 2002. Chumbawamba gave the money to the anti-corporate activist groups Indymedia and CorpWatch[2]."

Ex-Mexican president: Yes, there will be an amero

Irishman says...

Canadian bankers have said that a common currency would help "balance the highs and lows of Canada's economy" which relies heavily on trade with the US. Canadian businesses want it because the rise in value of Canadian currency against the US dollar has hurt their sales to the US.

America, Mexico and Canada signed an agreement in 2005 which merges the countries into the North American Union, exactly like the EU. All of this was done behind closed doors with no approval from congress - and no vote from the public.

No official currency has been designed and the pictures floating around of the amero coin are pure fantasy, but what we can say with certainty is that the foundations have been laid for a North American Union common currency and people need to start thinking about the ramifications of this, positive and negative. The question of sovreignty and who makes the decisions and writes the laws that affect day to day life is of the utmost importance.

As a sidenote, the UK held a vote on this very issue, and the public voted against adopting the euro - so a precedent exists.

Centralised government on a national level in the UK has adversly affected things like hospitals and schools and had positive effects on the economy and the rich. Centralised government on an international level is a huge and very serious issue and whilst it has always been a good idea in principle, we have to take a hard look at the people who are running the show and a harder look at the track records.

Indymedia has claims of the Amero currency being in place by 2010.

Always bear in mind that the priority of government has always been its economy, this is more important to government than the well being of its citizens. Count how many times you hear the word 'economy' on the evening news in relation to each story.

We Don’t Have Homosexuals Like In Your Country

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

EnzoBlue- was the interpretor really intentionally bad? I hadn't heard that. Are you saying that the interpreted comment about homosexuals was incorrect?

Yes, this section was taken out of context - but damn, the implied meaning behind that statement should not be trivialized. Try this link on for size.

NIST engineer denies the existence of Molten Steel

Constitutional_Patriot says...

In reply to your comment:
In the tags, what is "thermate"?

Many people believe that the molten steel or iron that is shown in a couple of 9/11 and post-9/11 videos is caused by a patented demolition charge coil that is normally wrapped around a steel column in order to cut it cleanly and quickly.

Analysis of steel samples from WTC steel:
http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2006/06/341238.shtml

"Thermate is an incendiary compound used for military applications. Thermate, whose primary component is thermite, also contains sulfur and possibly barium nitrate, both of which increase its thermal effect, create flame in burning, and significantly reduce the ignition temperature. Various mixtures of these compounds can be called thermate, but, to avoid confusion with Thermate-TH3, one can refer to them as thermite variants or analogs. The composition by weight of Thermate-TH3 (in military use) is 68.7% thermite, 29.0% barium nitrate, 2.0% sulfur and 0.3% binder."

Marine speaks out about Iraq

Soldiers in Revolt: 125 active-duty troops call to end the U.S. occupation of Iraq
Earlier this week, 65 military service members and National Guardsmen sent appeals for redress to members of Congress to urge an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. That total is now up to 346 service men and women, 125 of whom are on active duty.

Liam Madden, a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps stationed at Quantico, continued, "The real grievances are, if democracy is our goal than I believe we are going about it all wrong. The occupation is perpetuating more violence and I think is the biggest destabilizing thing we can do to the Middle East."

One service member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity of her recent year in Iraq, said that she "was hit by IEDs, by mortars... I was hit by snipers in my convoy and I’ve seen friends injured and affected by deaths in my brigade and my unit. I can tell you that many of them are not quite sure what their purpose or focus is now.

"A lot of people don’t want to admit it," she insisted, "but we are stuck in a civil war and it’s hard for the soldiers seeing the ethnic fighting going on around them and feeling like they’re stuck in the cross fire and not really feeling like there’s anything they can do to stop it.

"And it’s very frustrating to go out in convoys and get hit and not really sure why it is and not seeing any tangible results for their actions," she added. "I think it’s very important that Congress members and people understand that we do have a voice, and pay attention to our surroundings and what’s going on--and listen to what we have to say."
