Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Climate Change Debate

ChaosEngine says...

Ya know what, @Trancecoach is right. I could rebut all your points, but you've taken an ideological position that is unsupported by evidence, so clearly this is a waste of my time.

You probably genuinely believe what you've written, despite it being obvious nonsense.

One thing I can't let slide is your last little fantasy about the lone scientist against the establishment. That hasn't been true for a long time, and even then, it was generally religion or business (cf. Edison and Tesla) and not scientific consensus that impeded progress. Most major advances in science have come about by people working together, sharing results and bouncing ideas off each other. In fact, most of the time, the people we credit with great ideas (Newton, Einstein, etc) were only a step ahead of other scientists working toward the same ideas.

Yes, evidence trumps consensus, but scientists are not idiots, and there isn't some lone genius who has understood climate change when everyone else hasn't. If there was, the scientific community would recognise it.

There simply isn't any evidence to support your position that isn't easily dismissed in a few paragraphs. Read http://skepticalscience.com

The whole climate change denial (and no, I won't dignify it by calling it scepticism, that's an insult to scepticism) is marketing.

So I'll leave you, trance and the republicans in your little fantasy world where scientists and environmental campaigners have engaged in a massively profitable (please explain how, still not clear on this one) scheme to fuck up the world economy (because??? reasons, I guess) and the heroic oil companies are going to rescue us from a fate worse than a clean planet.

Meanwhile, I, the scientific community and the other humans that don't believe the earth is flat will accept the reality of climate change and move on.

Don't buy the large beer.

eric3579 says...

“It was recently brought to our attention that the amount of beer that fits in our large (20-oz) cups also fits in our regular (16-oz) cups. The differentiation in the size of the two cups is too small. To correct that problem, we’re purchasing new cups for the large beers that will hold 24 ounces, instead of 20, for the remainder of this season." Eric Trapp, the president of the Idaho Steelheads and CenturyLink Arena wrote on the team's Facebook page.

First of all how does the same amount of liquid fill a 16 oz cup and a 20 oz cup (although the 20 oz cup isn't filled to the rim as the 16 oz is, sure doesn't seem like a 4 oz difference). Even the new 24 oz cups will be a rip off. The equal value size to a four dollar 16 oz beer would be a seven dollar 28 oz cup. What a scam.

Mormons Declare War on Masturbation

title is misleading. The message is clearly about porn addiction. It's a very real and serious thing.

And yes, BYU-Idaho has strict standards. Everyone who registers knows about it and agrees to it before they attend. No-one forces those standards on you. If you don't like it there's plenty of other choices. Where you go to college is completely up to you.

I dropped off my niece for freshman semester and they sent her away at the photo-id desk because she was wearing flip-flops. She went back to her room, changed shoes, and got her photo-id.

Oh...and no shorts or flip-flops on campus.

"Standard #1: Shorts and Flip Flops

The most frequent question I get about the Honor Code at BYU–Idaho is our standard on shorts and flip-flops. We ask you not to wear shorts or capris on campus, including when you are walking to and from the Hart Building or the fields to work out. The same thing is true of flip-flops. They may be appropriate in other places, but not on campus."

The "it" that's about JS are fucking insane law-masturbation in Idaho and the inane in both camps duking it out to get their way. Like I said, 14-year-old girls kicking and screaming to have it the way they want it. Dude, it's fucking Idaho-Some of the most back-assward fucks from all over the country have relocated there to get the fuck away from everyone else and their bullshit, as they see it.

Think Utah when Joe Smith skipped the Northeast except with redder necks than clansmen with a history of blunt-force trauma to the head.

Prickville, USA
LGBT's have quite the battle ahead of them there-

USPS carrier drives onto customer's lawn to deliver package

SFOGuy says...

So, the lack of a full uniform leads me to believe that she may be a contractor (in small towns, USPS uses mail contractors; I think the most famous examples of its contractors are 1) the private pilots who FLY mail to the secluded farms and towns of central and northern Idaho and 2) the speed boat couriers hired every summer to deliver to the summer residences and islands of the St. Lawrence seaway....)

Northern Colorado ~ Secession Abuzz in State Legislature

chingalera says...

That square-state thing always bothered me, too-Idaho has a sexy shape, Kentuckys' totally bad-ass!

Fewer states through fusion-What would work well would be about 10-20 states broken up into chunks of punks, skunks, drunks, chumps, etc. A prison state, pick a shitty one where hardly anyone lives and make it for prisoners and those employed by the private concerns for profit (slave-labor).

One state for all the hippies.
One state for all the insects (experts at whatever it is they do)
something along these lines....let's try a NEW experiment-

Any change should start with a year of trials and executions for all the cunts who have flagrantly usurped the golden rule-(sorry atheists, adepts of Crowley, pagans.....even YOU folks live by "do unto" )-These other types of hu-man can't help it, they're broken and retarded and need not breed or teach their kind their ways....I'm talking about the 1%-They and their offspring are now OUR slaves!

But seriously, the criminals who control the planet need their dirt showcased on the telly, then and only then I might decide to watch TV.....

There would be more stars on the flag (51), not fewer.
This is about Colorado splitting into 2 states, not about some counties in Colorado leaving the USA.

Although I think it would make more sense for those counties to just become part of Nebraska instead of forming their own state. Colorado is too square.

Smartypants gets Tasered

VidRoth says...

It's a dangerous world right now, to live without the protection of a government or a treaty with the government of your current location. Maybe someday it won't be, I know I hope for that.

But for a guy traveling in the domain of a foreign power, he wasn't very smart. The Bill of Rights applies to U.S. citizens. I don't know what sovereign associates of the State of Idaho get for protection.

I'm not sure there's a foreign country in the world where a U.S. citizen can act like that safely. And he claims to not even be one of those, so he's *really* going to have trouble.

I consider the taser largely irrelevant in this scenario. Getting tackled to the grown isn't a lot nicer. Until the world finally outgrows nationalism, he'd better pick a citizenship that will give him some backup in a government conflict.

what part of what i said isnt true... idaho has skinheads, mormons are racist according to their scripture, and wyoming must be, what? educated people all over? heh heh who is ignorant ..
if you voted for Romney, you are Ignorant/Racist/Uneducated/Rich, not Informed/Tolerant/Intellectually Curious/Oppressed by Rich Lobbies/HONEST
Look at WA state and the diversity that brought about Gay Marriage, Legal Weed, and Obama Votes ... if you hate these things, you dont like freedom... you like a KIND of freedom, where one group gets the freedom to oppress others.

I know for sure that there is a giant Mormon population in southern Idaho. Remember, these states border Utah, which means that much of their "demographic" overflows in to those states as well.
