Why I Left the Left

vil says...

The historical precedents being (self)censorship and gulags.

Subjective offense and harm defined by well-meaning panels of social judges are the road to hell.

Is the man really black enough to be allowed to say nigger? Is the woman really ugly or is she justly offended? Who decides? Or is there some other concept at work here? Like common morals decided upon by peers in normal social contact (conflict), instead of dictated by a "higher" entity, the SJW.

Let the people decide for themselves. The normal path is that legislation is formed based on morals, not the other way round.

It's a difficult concept to define what is an act of harm. In general this is highly related to concepts of political correctness and has it's very roots in classical liberal thought. In my understanding, Mill would say not to restrict free speech in the case offense only in the case of harm. However, psychology and neuroscience make this line less distinct in caseses of trama or deep internalized concepts where we might see words leading to genuine harm of an individual, not just offense. This means that harm is less universal and depends on the individual and it leads to the idea of separating spaces based on the line between offense and harm. My understanding is the idea of rating systems, red light districts come from this. Also, now, a newer concept of safe spaces. It's easy to say that people should just suck it up, but it's not always that clear cut and there is historical precedence for this idea.

Net Neutrality is really Obama taking control of Internet!

NetRunner says...

@blankfist, let me try to explain the point of net neutrality by way of metaphor.

Transport yourself to a golden libertarian universe, where everything is private, and the government doesn't exist.

Now, let's say you wanted to print and distribute a newspaper. You buy yourself a high-volume printer, and start circulating some copies. To get the copies around town, you need to use the private roads that connect the location housing your printer, to the people who buy your paper. Due to infrastructure costs and physical constraints, there are only a handful of road service providers in your area. Let's call them AR&R (American Road & Rail), Roadcast, and Horizon.

You sign up with, say, AR&R, and start distributing your paper around town. Your circulation starts growing, and everything is going great.

Then one day, you decide to write an article that's critical of AR&R, telling people that they've got a reckless disregard for people's safety, and have been intentionally cutting corners with traffic lights when designing intersections.

The next day, your couriers find that they can't go more than 5mph on the roads, and are of course unable to make all their deliveries. You call AR&R to find out what's going on, but they just tell you to contact tech support, who just runs you through tedious and repetitive diagnostics, and never see a problem.

Eventually, you just decide to drop AR&R, and switch carriers to Roadcast. Unfortunately, you find that Roadcast is just as slow with your newspaper deliveries (but oddly, everything else is fine). So you try out Horizon. Horizon lets you deliver your papers at full speed again.

After all this, you write another article, critical of AR&R and Roadcast, and raise the question of whether road service providers might be censoring the distribution of newspapers that are critical of their business practices.

Immediately, you find your Horizon road service slowing to a crawl. You're effectively censored, as there are no other providers to turn to (and you don't have the resources or knowledge to start your own road service!).

You find yourself wishing there was some higher entity you could appeal to, that could tell the road service providers that they can't deny or limit access to people on the basis of the content of their vehicles, a sort of Road Neutrality, to coin a phrase.

But no, everyone knows that nothing is more evil than forcing people to do something they don't voluntarily choose to do...

Checkmate, Atheists!

8959 says...

Sad Sad person:
1) We dont say it's not real. We say the word is not real. It's not a message from GOD or some Higher Entity. Question the origins.

2) I dont even want to comment on this one. If the origins of your Bible are untrue, you believe in something unreal. Superstition.

3) Big Bang. Go study proper science, or just read up on it. The thought of a higher being/creator/Superspirit having anything to do with it, is a joke. And then again it's assumed that God is the only thing that did/doesnt have to be created. Alot of assumptions without any proof. The bible does not provide any evidence to what the weird man in the video said about this point, which obviously cant just make it true.

4) Radiometrics. I'm sure it's easy to just say Radiometrics (Science) is wrong. Pfffft... Pull your Head out of your arse. If Radiometrics were so wrong, why are we still using this technique. Maybe we should ask God to write paper to help us properly do it.

5) A banana fits a mans hand... OMG... You use that as a point??

6) Hmmm... Praying is 100% successful, IF GOD WANTS you to have it. Then it's pretty much 100% unsuccessful. Nothing is free. If you want something you're probably gonna work for it. Religious or not.

7) You are brainwashed by the bible. Quoting from the bible is not going to help make that fact any less true. "Perfecting Holyness in the fear of God" Read that a few times. That does not sound like a God that is too nice and good. Oh yeah... We Burn in the end. That's a loving deed.

Homosexuality isn't an abomination in the eyes of God... If we actually thought god existed we could have a chat about it then. You're easy to say it wrong even though you dont know what those people go through. You're not allowed judge anyway. Not all atheist say Homosexuality is right, same as not all Christians believe its wrong.

9) Nope... We didn't evolve out of dust, you moron. Although it would make sense in your bible (From ashes to ashes, dust to dust). Sooo... Umm... No who said that?

10) And the Creator just confirmed it with you... Oh how nice. Pity he doesn't talk to me. Guess I'll just burn in Hell with my Banana in my hand.

I really hope we dont have get such closeminded person doing videos about why Atheism is right.
