Most AMAZING graphics tech demo you'll ever see under 180KB

Raytrace says...

wow.. fr-041 already. i remember watching the 64kb fr-08 graphic demo back in 2000. really impressive at the time.

in fact there's up to fr-059 here: http://www.farb-rausch.com/productions.php

oh and about the dupe thing: this version is IMO, the original version as the music is inherent in the demo itself which you can download and watch in high resolution here: http://www.scene.org/file.php?file=/parties/2007/breakpoint07/demo/fr-041_debris.zip&fileinfo

Mark Twain, filmed in 1909 by Thomas Edison

lucky760 says...

Absolutely fascinating. I can't get enough of super vintage photographs and motion pictures.

Speaking of that, if you're also interested in such things, check out http://www.shorpy.com where they focus on vintage photos. It's even titled "History in HD - The 100-Year-Old Photo Blog."

Read a little more about it and see some Civil War photos here:

NASA Repairman testifies seeing Alien Buildings on the Moon

doogle says...

To clarify - yeah, if I was looking at fresh high-resolution satellite images and the machine breaks down, and I'm in the room with a technician, as a practical joke and just because I'm an ass, I'll tell the technician that these little blobs on the images, which we can't analyse because the machine is broken, are really 'mushroom-shaped buildings' and the signs of a civilized alien colony. As his eyes light up and someone else enters the room (who may not be in on the joke), I'll tell him it's classified information and see what he does with it.
And sh*t myself laughing to see that he's willing to testify under oath that this is the truth. HA!

Casino Royale - Final Poker Hand

BicycleRepairMan says...

Yeah, thats just what we need, FAKE ad-placements.. just great.

And I hate "movie poker", where everbody has all "superhands" all the time. why cant a movie hero win with something like 2 aces over 2 kings or something, its ridiculuos with this "My house is bigger" business, that happens like.. never..its about as silly as Movie Computer experts(tm) that can make high resolution face shots of CCTV cameras filming from across the street.

Finally: proof that there's an Alien invasion base on Moon!

honkeytonk73 says...

I'm into Amateur Astronomy. If ANYTHING is on 'this side' of the moon. It will be instantly detected. Check this out. This image is the type of high resolution shot one can achieve with BACKYARD equipment.

Check that resolution out. If there was any base or complex. It would stand out like a sore thumb. Make sure to click on the image to zoom it into its full resolution.

There is no doubt that the US govt wants a moon base. Whether it currently exists or will exist in the future. But there is no 'alien' base. Japan has a probe in orbit of the moon now. China is getting into it as well. Any 'secret' base certainly wouldn't remain secret for too long.

Still, such videos are quite humorous.

Conan and Jim Carrey Talk Quantum Physics

BlueGeorgeWashington says...

Great clip! The comic quantum-probability waves generated from this endlessly creative clip (process) has caused states of laughability well beyond the perplexities of "Schrodinger's Cat" uncovering the eternally amusing ambiguities of the "Vedantic Net" of the Unitary Quantum Sea we swim in as the non-local beautiful wave-functions collapse into local high-resolution Actuality due to "Mind's Eye" "observation" generated in ripples from the Universal Vacuum State (fluxuations) or the Super-Implicate Order (not chaos) Ground Of Being of the Majesty/Mystery of GOD.

Amazing Global Missile Defense Animation

flavioribeiro says...

That's exactly the case, Wumpus. I'm a graduate student in electrical engineering, and even though I'm not involved with the missile defense project (or with any military project, for that matter), my work involves the same algorithms you find in their radar, source identification and navigation systems.

The idea is that every one of these systems uses a very high resolution adaptive phased array array radar. That's a radar made from a grid of hundreds or thousands of tiny antennas. The requirements are very strict -- you need to accurately detect an object with a cross section of just a few square meters from thousands of km away. In order to combine and process the array's output you need a lot of processing power. Today's hardware is at the threshold of making this possible on a large scale, and in 10 years this system will be very accurate.

How it's made - video games

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

I meant the naration was kind of high level, like describing the cinematics as "something called high resolution" and the actual game as "low resolution" but it was very interesting.
