HD Time Lapse (timelapse) - Showreel 2008

Earth (2009) Trailer HD - A Nature Documentary.

cybrbeast says...

Do not go to see this or buy the DVD. You are much better off, downloading or buying the HD video of the eleven-part series BBC Planet Earth. This movie is just clips from the eleven unique one hour episodes from Planet Earth edited together to make Earth the movie.

Watching those episodes of Planet Earth in high definition is amazing. They take the series from the mountains to life on the flat to the deep sea, and go from North to South. From each of the places they visit, they manage with most amazing cinematography to produce jaw dropping beautiful views of extraordinary places.
This is on of the most highest budget documentaries ever made. I can't recommend it enough.

Change Your YouTube Embeds From Low Res to Higher Res (Geek Talk Post)

Hubblecast 18: Galaxy NGC 1275 is a magnetic monster (in HD)

yummy. the bigger the picture, the more we appreciate the high definition.

kinda, but i also appreciate hearing it from those in the trenches, and not a talking head. and i could deal with his narration, if he wasn't in front of the pretty pictures quite so often.
but hey. his skyhook is still the bomb.

assuming no female sifters are interested in the job, i nominate her.

Photo-Realistic Virtual World Rendered LIVE server-side

rychan says...

It's a neat idea but it doesn't quite seem feasible to me. There are some big issues-
It's computationally and thus $$$ expensive to render all of that stuff.
It's expensive to pay for all the bandwidth, especially if you want it to be high-definition. At best a player will have to live with low-res graphics and compression artifacts.
And the biggest show-stopper is the latency. You can't have any form of client side prediction which hides latency in online games. Your latency is increased by having to go through a video compression step. Best case I imagine 1 second of latency and that just isn't fun to play with.

Online games just don't seem like a good application for thin-clients. It's so much faster and cheaper to send a compact description of the world state instead of sending an entire visualization. Mobile phones could be an exception, since they are low-res and have limited graphics acceleration, but they also have limited and expensive network bandwidth.

Pornography Myths (Femme Talk Post)

Farhad2000 says...

Actually all activities are wired to the pleasure center of the brain whether you like it or not. This is why certain activities are pleasurable in the first place and become needful over time, consider that some people feel totally lost without being able to check their email for a long stretches of time, the activity of being in tune has become pleasurable, checking the sift has become pleasurable on the same level people went to Cheers. This phenomena is also seen for people who love food, eating food has become pleasurable and in very many cases it is for all of us, I love sushi, I can hardly pass it up if offered.

Conversely certain activities become not only pleasurable but dependable. Weed by itself is not addictive on the same level as heroine (since that is chemically and physically addicting) but it can be if it fulfills a certain psychological need of the individual using it.

People mistake that for addiction by usage when its addiction by individual, because some people who smoked weed don't do so now, some who tried don't like it.

The same applies to pornography, alcohol or food. For some it becomes addicting for others its occasional.

On the other hand pornography will always be liked to the pleasure centers of our brains, as much as we like to avoid it, we are basically vessels for the propagation of our DNA, thus of course we would love to be exposed to anything remotely resembling the act of sex eventually.

At the end of the day the argument of time stands, we have had porn and pornography since the beginning of time, prostitution is the worlds oldest profession. Yet we all managed to survive and over time have seen only the betterment of relations between men, female rights and human rights. There is a ways to go but society didn't become a moral abyss like Pinky would make it seem.

You know when the Internet came about the first large investor in it was actually the porn industry, they are the first to introduce e-commerce as a way for paying for subscription based services. Streaming video and flash was also picked up first by pornography. When HD-DVD and Blu-ray came about they were the first people to publish high definition pornography.

Alot of media was driven by the porn industry. I think it's a side of humanity alot of people can't really accept openly and would rather sweep under the rug. But it's there. It's inherently who we are as a species. We like to fuck. We like to watch others fuck too.

Yes! I hate it when they use up memory on AI when it's supposed to be used for animating EVERY SINGLE BOARD IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF MY NAVAL BASE.

At least now I know that when my tanks abandon their mission to hunt that rouge ore truck, my destruction will be rendered in spectacular, high-definition fire balls.

Smells like a set-up stunt to me... I don't know too many CCTV cameras with a "track burning motorcycle" mode.

Not that you're necessarily wrong, but if you call "fake", back it up with some modicum of background information. "Modern CCTV cameras use small high definition colour cameras that can not only focus to resolve minute detail, but by linking the control of the cameras to a computer, objects can be tracked semi-automatically."

Cute how you try to deflect my criticisms onto others, but I didn't say righties. These comments were custom tailored for you, mushroom.

Your "criticisms" were adequately addressed. In my own words. In spades.

MarineGunrock for example, is a reasonable, rational thinker. I might not always agree with him, but his opinions are always thoughtful, often unpredictable, and most importantly, they never sound like warmed-over Hannity.

I don't seek to polarize, but as my sincere words fill others with rage or glee, then I'm doing it right. Hannity, O'Reilly, Maher, Stewart, Stern, Limbaugh, Kucinich, Nader...people either love them or hate them, but they state their case in high definition. That's all I'm doing here. If I'm upsetting someone with an admitted dystopian worldview, what then do I represent?

I realize I'm wasting my life talking to you, so I'll let you have the last word.
