What part do you play in the VS community? (Mystery Talk Post)

swampgirl says...

Yeah, I kinda was gonna say I act like the mom around here. Or "aunty swampy" to some of you young fellas and ladies I enjoy chatting with.

As with every mom, you all have to put up w/ my little hobbies (shatner, heston, vintage cheese) with feigned interest cause you WUV me SOOO much And I do tend to be a prude around here sometimes

KP is dad? Ok, I can see that. He looks after everyone and chats us up when we need it. He is also "alpha male" a bit, and loves to hear himself talk. I'm glad he does. He's a funny guy.

(Since we're parents then KP.. we need to go to counseling over this sexuality questioning I keep hearing about. Neighbors are starting to talk )

I have to say though I thought of him as the dirty uncle too hehe

McCain Ad - The One

MrFisk says...

Barack Obama's campaign responded sharply to a new McCain webad depicting Obama as a parody of a biblical prophet.

"It’s downright sad that on a day when we learned that 51,000 Americans lost their jobs, a candidate for the presidency is spending all of his time and the powerful platform he has on these sorts of juvenile antics," said spokesman Hari Sevugan. "Senator McCain can keep telling everyone how ‘proud’ he is of these political stunts which even his Republican friends and advisors have called ‘childish’, but Barack Obama will continue talking about his plan to jumpstart our economy by giving working families $1,000 of immediate relief."

The ad, released only on the Internet, is the latest in a series mocking the Democratic nominee.

"It should be known that in 2008 the world shall be blessed," begins the ad's deep-voiced narrator. Later, Obama emerges Godlike from the clouds.

The ad quotes Obama in both serious riffs telling a crowd "we are the ones we've been waiting for"; and in a sarcastic one, joking to an audience, "You will experience an epiphany and you will say to yourself, 'I have to vote for Barack.'"

The ad then shows Obama expressing his hope that America will look back at the 2008 election as the beginning of the end of global warming. The ad then cuts to an image a Charlton Heston, as Moses, parting the Red Sea, before concluding:

"Barack Obama may be The One, but is he ready to lead?"

Obama's campaign responded to McCain's webad after sending out a separate statement from Newark Mayor Cory Booker, whom McCain had praised in a speech at the Urban League today.

"In yet another dishonest attack at the Urban League, Senator McCain misled the American people about Senator Obama's record and his own," Booker, an Obama supporter, said, praising Obama's support for charter schools in Illinois, and attacking McCain's opposition to spending on a range of education programs.

"With that kind of track record, Senator McCain should be the last person lecturing Senator Obama about a commitment to quality education for our nation's children," he said.

I have the biggest damn shotgun in the friggin world in my closet damnit!!!! (Blog Entry by swampgirl)

swampgirl says...

No, I wouldn't consider myself part of "gun culture"... I do believe I have the right to defend my family in my own home. My rant here was from a day of reading nasty comments towards Heston during a tribute for him I was attempting.

My shotgun? It actually belonged to my Dad. Growing up in a rural southern area (SC USA), it was always loaded with buckshot to take out rattlesnakes around the yard.

My dad gave most of his guns to my brothers when he was sick, but still held onto the shotgun.

On his deathbed a week before he passed, he gave the shotgun to my husband. It meant a lot to him... to both of us.

It it always unloaded, with no shells near by for curious ones to find

I Have Only Five Words For You

gwiz665 says...

Having a gun is like having a buzzsaw in your kitchen, a poor idea at best. Any accidents involving guns stem from... having a gun. That's a bunch of fatalities you can stop right there. As far as I know, there's no statistical evidence connecting gun access and crime rates, as such, but gun access and gun injuries/killings are certainly linked.

If I have something genuinely bad to say about someone, even if they're dead, I'll damn well say it, and I will thank anyone to accept my right to do it. (case in point) That being said, I have no particular grievance with Charlton Heston; he was a fine actor and had a poor idea about guns. Everyone has flaws.

^no what's bullshit is the amount of rain forest that has been cut down to provide soapboxes for this Charlton Heston suck-off. Many didn't give a damn about him until he died, then they wanted to jump on the same "mourning bandwagon" that Heath Ledger's death lead. And then comes the dickheads (like me) that always say "good riddance" or "I'm glad he's dead". Cue all of those that are looking for something to feel to grab a hold of their neighbor's member and beat each other off in some sick ritualistic lachrymal circle jerk and strike down those that accost their flavor of the week.

Many of you would prefer to insult an alive person behind their back than to crawl out of your superstition-proof armor and say what you'd like about the dead. Hell, even if it's got nothing to do with anything who cares? The more of this drivel I read, the more I really do dislike Charlton Heston and Ben Hur, specifically.

@everybody: What? So now I'm supposed to be held accountable for speaking out of my ass??? I didn't see that in the FAQ, I think it should be posted.
In all fairness, I have nothing against Charlton Heston, I just felt exceptionally froward this morning and decided to pick on somebody who, even if people didn't love, could respect.
