Can you sail downwind faster than the wind?

dannym3141 says...

^ Unfortunately that link is to do with apparent wind and travelling faster than it.

This video is about travelling DIRECTLY downwind faster than the wind (hence ddwfttw).

Ok now i've got it, if no one else does i'll explain it tomorrow.

Edit:
The guy made a few posts about this device on a major forum (PhysicsForum) and got both threads closed down among cries of "heresy! burn the wizard!" He insisted that it worked in the face of hundreds of pseudo(and non pseudo) scientists/engineers telling him he was a fool and having his threads locked/deleted. Then he converted one of his friends (who also said it wouldn't work) and they made the device. I can't find out definitively who made it but it wasn't those 2 guys (the guys who also made this video), but it seems to be the slightly elderly guy whose wife we see pushing the larger scale model. The guys who made this then made a few more threads saying "see?" and are still being treated with skepticism.

Hitchens: Christianity is not imposed?

Whether Hitchens is right about Christianity being imposed or not, it still hasn't reached the point where people are Executed (physically speaking) for not believing in it.

350 years ago in both Europe and America, people were executed for heresy, immorality (in the eyes of the clergy), or suspicion of witchcraft. Jews were persecuted often by Christians throughout Europe for over a thousand years before the holocaust. Some large Muslim countries still behave in the manner that Europe did 400 years ago with respect to religious freedom and tolerance (the lack thereof).

Although it may feel like heresy for Canadians to admit, Dallas Green is *obscure outside our fair country, so he joins that channel too. Love the *artsy effect achieved in this vid.

Irshad Manji VS As'ad AbuKhalil - Selective Religous Mockery

Constitutional_Patriot says...

That's funny As'Ad... this offense of selective mocking of religions (but you mean Islam only don't you?) is hypocritical y'know?

He states that "most Westerners" mock one relgion (Islam)but revere the others. When in reality "most Westerners" tend to mock any religion other than their own specific flavor of religion.

Personally I mock them all. I think religion is rediculous. It's like you're all children still.

So what if someone draws Mohommad.. or names a teddy-bear muhommad.. As a matter of fact.. aren't many people named Mohommad? Sounds like heresy!!! it's rediculous and this just shows the small-minded nature of having a bone to pick - someone to hate for a pathetic reason. If it were not for these things then you would have found something else.. after all we're all "Infidels".. which is an outright insult as well.. placing one above the other because of religious beliefs and lineage.... similar to how the Jews claim they're the "chosen-ones"... or how the Nazi's would claim that the Arian race is the supreme race... or the Baptists claiming that you won't get into Heaven unless you're "Baptised" (i.e.: dunked in water while someone babbles on next to you)... again placing themselves above others.. Same difference.. similar to racism.

Religion is brainwashing. wake up!

Yes, despite being a devout Catholic, and despite trying to remain loyal to the church, Galileo could not ignore the observations showing the sun at the centre of the solar system. The catholic church was of course teaching that the earth is the centre of creation and the universe (Aristotle). They persecuted Galileo. In later years, the catholic church recruited and funded astronomers which was the beginnings of the church using science for persuasion of its esoteric teachings which still goes on to this day. Today it's called Intelligent Design.

Galileo? Seriously?

"The Catholic church gets bashed on a lot and I'm never sure why."

The vatican staying silent about the holocaust during WWII,

Still teaching even today that HIV can pass through condoms in AIDS stricken Africa,

Covering up child abuse allegations, for example that of Father John Geoghan, accused of sexually molesting over 100 boys in the Archdiocese of Boston,

The persecution of Galileo, the inventor of the telescope,

The infamous brutal and violating interrogations directed at the suppresion of heresy,

In fact hundreds of years of years of persection, deceit, lies and social control; much of which can be levelled at any religion in the world. Take your pick.

The vatican's position on evolution does not explicity say that evolution is the most likely creation theory, only that "faith and scientific findings regarding the evolution of man's material body are not in conflict, though man is regarded as a 'special creation', and that the existence of God is required to explain the spiritual component of man's origins."

This is always worth saying: Science is a METHOD, not a position.
