Jesus Doesn't Want Me For A Sunbeam - Nirvana (Unplugged)

mauz15 says...

I like it but Jesus this is such an extremely overrated album. Usually what happens whenever artists die *cough heath ledger cough*

It was an alright unplugged but greatest ever recorded? comparing it to what exactly? other albums that appear on radio/MTV? then yes, but then that's not saying much.

thanks a_c i doubt i can find a replacement for that one.. ah well.

i saw brokeback at home, and it actually caused me to go into a major depressive episode. thankfully it didn't last too long and i found a website where other people were going through similar reactions, that helped a lot (and made me feel like slightly less of a total FREAK). it seems a little weird to look back on now, to have had such a strong emotional response to a fictitious movie, but it's nice to know i wasn't alone in feeling that way.

i have seen as many love stories / tragedies as anyone else, some of them gay, but there is something about this one that really slaughtered me. perhaps it's just the combination of great storytelling, directing, acting etc, or perhaps it's something else, i could never quite decide.

heath ledger's death brought it all back again, the timing was eerie, i had been planning on posting a brokeback clip for a little while, approaching gold... then that happened just as i was on 49! i had never given the guy a moment's thought before brokeback, but quickly realised he was going to be one of the 'greats' of this generation. i know all life is valuable, but i do feel sad that i don't get to enjoy seeing what he would've done.

oh god i'm raving on already! don't get me started!

I have to say, I loved your "long, boring summary" of this. I went to watch it with my best friend. We got out of the cinema and he was very quiet, I was chatting away, just an unbelievable film, one of the most tragic love stories ever told. And we got to the car and he just sobbed and sobbed. It touched him so much. Of course it didn't touch me in the same way, although there are plenty of love stories that do, but it was so nice, because finally someone had told a proper story about real love between two men. Anyway, i'll try and find an embed for it if you haven't got round to it. Just thought i'd share that with you, as what you wrote made me think of it and i'm sure you got a similar experience as he had

Heath Ledger in A Knight's Tale - Dance Scene (2001)

Joker vs Joker (Jack Nicholson vs Heath Ledger)

Don't like the new Joker at all.
Just like with everything else nowadays they just had to make him more emo goth dark, completely detached from all other incarnations of the Joker. Kind of sad to see him reduced to a generic, misunderstood, dark villain with a sad, troubled past. Probably kept the name solely for name recognition's sake, which led to them being forced to add the face paint. By the look of it, however, it's clear the instructions on how to apply said face paint wasn't specific enough.
Then again, this video might not accurately portray the Joker of the new movie. Or, I'm simply not the target audience.

Is your entire knowledge base about the Joker based on Nicholson's performance? Ledger's Joker is far, far truer to the DC version of the Joker. And you haven't even seen the movie!

Dark Knight: Load of Tripe (Cinema Talk Post)

thinker247 says...

I liked the movie. But then again, I'm the perfect moviegoer, because I suspend my logic for two and a half hours. I don't know how I do it, since my mind is ALWAYS on, but occasionally I like to turn off the night-light and drool like a dullard for a while.

I didn't like Batman's voice, and I don't think Maggie Gyllenhall is hot enough to be wanted by two rich and powerful men, but at least Arnold or George Clooney weren't involved.

Oh, and I think Heath Ledger should receive the Best Supporting Actor award. And it is based purely on merit, in my mind. I've seen some of his movies where he can't act out of a wet paper bag, but in this he broke through and was mesmerizing.

There. I've had my say.

Ah, yeah I get your point. Well, who knows, it's coming out soon and we can always hope to be pleasantly surprised with what they did to him.

In reply to this comment by Kreegath:
I'm not saying either Joker hasn't done bad things, that's really what they do for a living, being comic book badguys and all. However, that a villain has done bad things doesn't necessarily make their persona characteristics dark, emo goth with a sad undertone.
That's where my problem with this trailer lies, just like with most of these hero movies as of late. They don't bother to enhance or subdue the established characteristics and/or personality traits of the villains/heroes, they simply change them altogether to fit in the darker, brooding mold that seems to be so popular nowadays.
What I am saying is that based on that preview, the Joker they portray seems no different from any other villain depicted in major film releases the last couple of years. Basically, and this is again only based on what's seen in that trailer, the two things noticable that sets aside him as the Joker from Mr. Generic is the trademark face paint (although a butchered paint job in this case, as I speculated they were probably forced to add it to make it clearer that it in fact is the Joker) aswell as his name. That in no way means I'm advocating they make the Joker exactly the same in every movie, but if they're going to use the Joker the least they could do is use the Joker and not some (un)original character extremely loosely based on the Joker.

..the dark emo side of the joker? You DO know the joker is a complete homocidal maniac, he blew up one of the Robins AND his mother, and crippled barbara gordon (Batgirl) by showing up to her house, knocking on the door, waiting til she answered and shot her point blank, with a smile on his face the entire time.

There really isn't a villian that GETS more dark then the joker..

Too early to say. I haven't seen Ledger's performance yet.

Exactly, we're just looking at his performance from the trailers. It's not a very good comparison right now. Jack's performance still remains the best, until I see Heath's. I can't go on word of mouth.
