NASA finds signs of flowing water on Mars!

I'm waiting for an explanation of why they show up on North facing slopes. If this were LIQUID H2O I would think they would be on South facing (more towards the sun) slopes.
I hope NASA gets continued funding, but their PR needs to be more honest with less pandering to sensationalism.

The area in the video is in the southern hemisphere so the north-facing slopes would be getting more sun exposure than the south-facing slopes.
Also the (NASA) title of the video is "Possible Water Flows on Warm Martian Slopes". That doesn't seem all that sensationalist. Blame the media for the hype.

Thanks, I didn't realize this was the southern hemisphere. I'm not the only one leery of NASA hype though (check the comments out):

New pics, but not a new finding. Smears like these have been seen for years.

enough with the dramatic voices

But seriously, two chemists walk into a bar, the first says I'll have H2O, the second says I'll have H2O too. The second chemist dies shortly thereafter .

Water to Ice with a Vacuum

I knew it would boil. I did not know it would freeze.

Actually, below .006 atm liquid water isn't stable... it either freezes or boils, depending on the temperature. If they had left it in the vacuum then it wouldn't have frozen. As said above this is what happens to a person tossed out of an air lock in space, and it is also closely related to the damage deep-sea divers experience if they surface too quickly.
Another interesting property of H2O is that adding pressure to ice at just under the freezing point (and above .006 atm pressure) turns it back into water, where as most substances freeze under increased pressure.

These diagrams show what you're describing. Notice the line separating solid and liquid. Under general fluids, the line tilts to the right showing that when pressure is added and temperature is constant, the phase of that fluid will move from liquid to solid. But for water, the line is tilted to the left, showing that with increased pressure at a constant temperature, ice would turn to water

Homeopathy technobabble orgie

ryanbennitt says...

Woah, did anyone pick up that she's building a homeopathic bomb? Containing actual H2O? You do realise the destructive power of such a dilute solution? If the bomb hits critical mass it could literally drown her neighbour's dog when it goes off. This woman is a homeopathic terrorist, we need to inform authorities.

Announcing live streaming of Water channel (Water Talk Post)

I am about ready to create my channel - final thoughts (Sift Talk Post)

maatc says...

Aqua is nice, but I´d call it H2O

I also wish we had a "design" channel for all those pretty things.

>> ^MarineGunrock:

Please, no more overlap.
We already have music, livemusic, hiphop, jazz, wildwestshow and rockandroll.
We DON'T need another music channel.
We DON'T need another nature channel (aqua)
Europe would work but there's not a big need of it as far as I can tell.
Crime would be good, but I think we really need a health/human body channel the most.

And @MarineGunrock: There already is a health channel!

You know, I was kidding when I said you probably had the same idea for a channel as me. Now I'm a little creeped out

You're welcome to it though, if that's what you're planning. I think we need one, and I won't get a diamond for ages.

In reply to this comment by EDD:
Unless it is given to mauz, I'd say we should wait until a newly-made diamond creates it - I want somebody who knows their stuff running a channel - which is why for example rottenseed is in charge of *Drugs and also why I didn't create *health or *h2o (for all things water), two of the channels we most need, imho, when I became a bronze diamond.

Now is the time for a *health channel. Who's with me? (User Poll by NetRunner)

I knew a kid in highschool who drank 2 liters of coca cola every day.
he got headaches when he didn't drink at least 1 liter.

I wonder if he never drank anything else? I had friends who used to drink only pop or milk, never water or juice. They weren't very healthy. Most of them have gotten over their aversion to H2o.
