President Obama On Health Care Decision

bmacs27 says...

I'm as giddy as the next fella about, gasp, Roberts putting his stamp on this. I'm still left wondering, when did Barack lose the ability to give an inspiring speech? I mean, it happened so slowly, but over the course of 4 years he went from JFK to John Kerry.

Obama Cabinet Member on Gay Marriage: Yes (45 seconds)

chingalera says...

Feeling better now and thank you for clearing up the motivation.
Please don't take a personal disdain for giddy while mindless, so-called news reporting to heart.

"Gay" and "marriage" are hard terms to coalesce for most into substance considering the sociological and traditional connotations. Not my point. my point would resemble a world where people get real news from the organizations with the funds and apparatus to catalyze tangible "change". Not spare change or chump change or square change or anything that brings society to some illusory statuesque quo.

Modern Family - Cameron Snippets

alien_concept says...

Haha, it might sound like that, but I didn't think about it at all until it came to this thread. And I believe I do just enjoy the show. We can't all be simple creatures who only scratch the surface of everything

Sounds like you both spend way too much time thinking about this.
Just enjoy the show!

Sounds like you've caught a serious case of the fandomitis.
I remember having a similar conversation with this guy from a group lunch. I brought up Modern Family and how it was getting popular, and he said that he couldn't stand watching Modern Family because they were all 'fake' and their acting made him feel uncomfortable. He said he couldn't quite put his finger on it, only that he kept saying that the actors were overreacting to the situations.
I told him I felt the same way about Portlandia and how I felt very uncomfortable when the actors were being very aggressive with their ultra-liberal agendas and stop watching whenever they were about to have another fit. This was ironic because the person who didn't like Modern Family absolutely loved Portlandia and had no problem watching it.
For the record, in my subjective opinion I felt that the person I was talking with was a very giddy person, like the personalities in Modern Family, while I sometimes can be an argumentative smart mouth when it comes to certain topics.
Perhaps we were seeing a little bit of ourselves in these shows, and it was making us uncomfortable? Weird, eh?

I both love and hate this show.
I hate how it reinforces all the shittiest stereotypes, the flamboyant gay couple, the straight couple with the man is the bumbling idiot and the woman who he is ridiculously lucky to have.
But yeah, it is a damned funny show.

I honestly don't think they write these characters stereotypically at all! That's why I find it so hilarious, you think you know what you're going to get then they play it out completely differently. Like they're a gay couple and they do gay flamboyant things, but one is ginger and one is fat and they're certainly not the perfect adoptive parents, they fuck it up all the time. And Phil and Claire, yeah she's way out of his league at first glance, but then you realise what a complete mentalist she is, and how she's wonderful but difficult to love if you weren't a husband who understands he's punching above his weight and also autistic so can let most of her quirks go. And then there's the old rich guy with the trophy wife and the precocious step kid. I can't even think of anything usual about that routine

Gun Totin'- Facebook Parenting - Tough Love Or Ass?

NetRunner says...

I can't say what it's like to be a parent, but I can say what it's like to have been a teenage kid.

You complain about everything. Your parents. Your school. Your friends. Everything that doesn't go your way in your life seems like an unprecedented tragedy of galactic proportions. You're emotional -- when you're happy you're freakin' giddy, and when you're mad all sense of proportion goes out the window, and you let fly with everything you've got.

I'm old enough now to see why that's hard for anyone to handle. I'm old enough now to realize a lot of it was petty childishness, and most of the rest was the kinds of overwrought emotional responses that seem to be common to most teenagers.

Like I've said, I don't know what it's like being a parent, but I'm sure the bit where she said she wouldn't be there to take care of him when he's old probably hurt him a lot more than he's willing to admit. And I'm just as sure she doesn't really mean it.

Growing up isn't easy. I can honestly say I think the first 15 years of my life were a lot harder than the last 15 years of my life. But it's a big adjustment going from complete dependency to being independent. It's a big adjustment going from having your life strictly controlled by someone who knows you and loves you, to going out into a world that's controlled by people who are indifferent, uncompromising and mechanical with how they'll impose limits on you.

I'm just gonna go out on a limb here, and say that it seems unlikely to me her behavior improve because of this. His daughter will not be complaining less. His daughter will not be swearing less. I wouldn't even be surprised if she fights back, stops doing chores, starts swearing to her dad's face, or maybe even runs away.

Maybe I'm just projecting my own childhood onto other people, but that's how I reacted when my parents tried to ground me for thought crimes.

I guess it's a little dangerous letting your kids read 1984 when they're teenagers. The world of Big Brother and your life as a teenager start seeming scarily similar.

Atheism's a Drug, Like Novocaine - Except it's Stoopidcaine!

I watched it all. Could Larry be any more giddy about how right he thinks he is?
They seem to cover every erroneous argument ever made against atheism in a record amount of time. These guys have a black belt in ignorance.

Fox 12 Reporter to Occupy Portland: "I am One of You"

DarkenRahl jokingly says...

Kudos.

Do you have a point aside from a token sentence to justify your hubris?

>> ^wax66:

I know this makes me evil and heartless, but as a high school dropout and someone with only a 2 year CERTIFICATE from a technical college, I get giddy as a school girl when I tell people that I'm making close to 6 figures in an industry that I love and have no formal training in. It's not how much you paid for what you know, it's what you know, how easily you can know more, and how well you get along with people.

All fixed now....
By the way, it is a known fact that ants love to herd aphids around and tomato plants are famous for playing hosts to these farms - I wasn't trying to be offensive - just stating facts and connecting dots between post topics.

Downvote for the basic grammar error. Hehe! I upvoted for the correction and reply. Thanks!
