Secular World View? - It's Simple Really (Science Talk Post)

Hah. Glad I could finally get your goat.

The fact that you focus on stuff like insults is proof of my point that you don't give a damn about substance, only semantics.

It's okay to be ignorant Gale. I'm ignorant of lots of things.
[Hence why I advocate learning & science. I like to be fully informed.]

The reason I phrased it as "stupid as fuck" is because.. well it is.

If you abhor result A, but you condone action B which directly contributes to result A..

..it's crazy or stupid or whatever pejorative you want to use to identify that viewpoint as a contradiction to itself.

I can't comprehend why that is so difficult for you to realize or accept.

You keep asking my plan to get rid of religion or bureaucratic brutality.

Simple, confront the mindset that "Supporting A, while condoning B" will produce a positive result.

Cause it doesn't.
~~~
Think about this Gale.
If you think sexism in Islam is awful, why condone Buddhist Dharma - it only justifies the existence of the Quran and sexist interpretations of it.
Secular World View? - It's Simple Really (Science Talk Post)
GenjiKilpatrick says...
@bareboards2
Don't even get me started.
If you and SD wanna argue that science is just a tool that's fine.
It only shows your ignorance.
But it's funny cause you still rely on the group consensus of scientists to support your claims about religion. "It's biological human nature."
If you studied biology and neuroscience, you'd have an actual understanding of the shit you're always spoutin' about.
Instead you go off on some zen master "howlin' winds & walls" bullshit without understanding why the wind is so intense in the first place.
~~~

For example, circumcision is wrong. In the same way murder is.

Your rational mind will immediately identify that it's wrong to mutilate babies.

But you'll defend it because it comes packaged with religion.

Your hippie "multiculturalist" mind will identify the act of baby mutilation as part of "biological human nature". [Church sanctioned Genital Mutilation is just part of the inevitable all-natural wind, right? -_-]

"It's really great for all those parents who come out of the 'anti-genital mutilation closet' because after enough time & laws have passed, I'm sure there will be no more infant genital mutilation." [This is your wall. Your weak, takes centuries to build wall.]
~~~
If you really supported stuff like It Gets Better you'd realize that apologist [like you and SD] who place religion on a pedestal..
..contributes to the problems of those closeted gay and lesbian kids face you apparently want someone to help.
Yet you still continue to defend religion because of some "humans err, it's natural" bullshit.
It's a self defeating "solution" whether you're talking about governments or religions.
~~~

Which is brings us to the question of why you continue to use that reason/logic, Gale.

You're either disingenuous or stupid as fuck.

I'm going with the latter. Here is why:

Police brutality and ritualized genital mutilations are constructs of human cultural.

There is no need for either of them.

You Gale, are attempting to argue that both are inherent evils that have to be dealt with because there is no other way around them.

I've been shouting and flinging evidence at you for that last month or two to prove otherwise.

You're too old and set in your ways to think otherwise.

[Don't worry it happens to all of us to some extent.]

But for you to sit here and continue to say that -

"Yes certain things are awful but we need to put up with them cause there's no other way"

[WHEN THERE ARE CLEARLY MUCH BETTER WAYS.]

Is again, a worldview born from stupidity [ignorance about why things are that way] or insincerity
~~~
Kumquat? Yeah, it's okay. You were never listening in the first place.
Cops Continue to Harass Emily Good
GenjiKilpatrick says...
@bareboards2
Cognitive dissonance much, Gale?
It's childish to think any precinct would punish or reprimand its officers for ENFORCING THE LAW.
Stop pretending like you don't understand perfectly well the logic for the "for-profit corporation" thing.
1.
Asshole cops write you a ticket [cause your car is 1/2 an inch too far from the curb]
2.
You either pay the fine or go to court or ignore it.
~~~
1.
You pay the fine.
The "state" [Can you even define what the state is Gale?] receives revenue.
2.
You go to court.
Your public defender makes a deal with the "state". You pay a reduced fine.
The state receives revenue.
[Or worse, you have to defend yourself. You lose. You pay even larger fine.]
3.
You ignore it.
The court issues a bench warrant.
You're pulled over [for not wearing a seat belt or something] and are arrested immediately.
You post bail.
The state receives revenue.

The prison industrial complex, just like like the military industrial complex, is in the business of generating revenue.

Stop trying to deny/sugar coat it so you can justify your delusions about the purpose of it.

For me, the impersonality of the internet is a chance to rise above my baser instincts.

I am a much better behaving person on the internet than I am in person. I have a chance to edit my knee jerk first responses.

You make a different choice under the same circumstances.

As you say -- "if you don't want to be confronted about your opinions, you shouldn't make them public."

So you made your opinions about me public, by attacking me personally. And I responded.

We're even, right?

In reply to this comment by GenjiKilpatrick:
If I knew you in real life, i wouldn't be so aggressive because it's rude.

But since the internet is impersonal and you touched on a subject I'm passionate about.. I tend to let my adjectives & tone off the leash.

Tho I think you're wise enough to realize that - if you don't want to be confronted about your opinions, you shouldn't make them public.

You made a statement. I called you out on it.
You had your chance to enlighten me on why it's reasonable to arrest members of a peaceful demonstration. You chose not to. And after some badgering I let it go.

You posted a video on the exact same subject matter.
You then posted a comment reiterating the exact same - what I recognize to be a deluded - statement.

Now you have this funny look your face like..
   "Why did you call me out again after I made myself a very large target?"

Again Gale. It's the interwebs and VideoSift. What did you expect?
  [Something more ideal, apparently. Don't worry, me too.] = P

25 Random things about me... (Blog Entry by youdiejoe)

bareboards2 says...

1. I can dance the tango, amongst other ballroom dances, and have won dance contests.

2. My father is a major part of space history – he was a range safety officer, blowing up missiles that went off course in the early days of the missile program – has destroyed more missiles than anyone else and no one is likely to ever catch up to him, since they know what they are doing now.

3. I love to tell stories, and when I travel, I write stories in my head to tell when I get home (did I ever tell you about spending an hour – at 10 pm in the winter night -- talking to the lone Scottish soldier guarding Edinburgh Castle and what he told me about kilts and Scottish pride?)

4. I am vain about my ears.

5. The only thing I have ever given birth to is a theater company, now defunct for ten years, and I am very proud that folks still mourn its passing. We did GREAT STUFF.

6. I am hypercritical and judgmental of others, but I am hardest of all on myself.

7. Once I moved to hippy haven Port Townsend, I grew out my armpit hair to see if I could blend in with the natives – and then scared myself in the shower because I thought it was a spider.

8. One of my best friends is my Oklahoma cousin, which is remarkable because we have never spent more than a week in each others company in five decades.

9. The precept I try to live by: “Everyone is doing the best they can in any given moment. Their best may stink, and you may need to avoid them, but it is indeed the best they can do.” I’m still hypercritical and judgmental. Even though I believe this to the core of my being.

10. I have cheated at Scrabble online.

11. I have had eight teeth pulled and braces, but my teeth are still crowded.

12. I am vain about my eyebrows.

13. I love telling jokes.

14. I was born in Alaska.

15. My mother died in 1988 and I still miss her terribly. She was funny and caring and smart.

16. Typing number 15 made me cry, which surprised me.

17. I paid $1,500 for a lifetime pass to the local arts cinema 14 years ago, which turned out to be a great investment – they recently sold some more and wanted $5,000 (that did include popcorn for life, but still).

18. I didn’t talk to my father for two years because he was an asshole when I was growing up, and now I call him every single day because he lives in a nursing home. He’s also not an asshole any more – or at least, I can walk him out of being an asshole. This transformation in our relationship is a great blessing in my life.

19. I am very very good at my job.

20. I am quick to anger.

21. I am very generous.

22. The librarians have a nickname for me. They call me The Gale, to differentiate me from all the other mere Gales, Gayles and Gails in town.

23. I have never lived anyplace with so many people named Gale/Gayle/Gail.

24. I am happy on the first day of winter and sad on the first day of summer – because the days are so frigging short in winter and they start to get longer on the Winter Solstice. And verse visa for Summer – it means the days are getting quickly shorter.

25. This list was interrupted by my friend Deb, and we went across the street for lemon drop martinis and baked poblana peppers and cheese. My friend Deb says that #25 should be: Once upon a time, I kissed too many boys.

Casey Heynes' Bully Richard Gale says HE was bullied first

Payback says...

...This boy, Richard, is probably someone who's also bullied due to his size, and probably picks on others that won't fight back to help his image. ...

Actually, given his age, he's about normal. His peer group would accept him. Casey, being "husky", would be a target unless he was far more aggressive. In high school I decided to try out pushing people around after being picked on in elementary. Only lasted about a month. Just not in my character. Helped shape a stay-away-from-big-Dave mentality for the rest of school though, that was cool.

Casey Heynes' Bully Richard Gale says HE was bullied first

draak13 says...

I strongly agree with your assessment of the father here. In the original post about this bullying, we discussed options for trying to prevent this scenario from ever coming about. It was decided that the best way to do it was through behavioral shaping, and the best way to do that is through good parenting.

What's really impressive to me is that, despite the family situation, the parents on both both sides are very well spoken, and seem to have good values that they at least intend to pass on to their children. What's alarming to me is that the parent of this child fails to do this, even though he intends to. This is clearly evidenced when the kid says he isn't sorry for what he did, and then is corrected by his father offscreen, and then the issue is finally brought out...on camera, by the interviewer. After talking things out and finally achieving character growth, the kid realizes what is wrong about what he did.

Even through all the crap that this family is going through because of how widely popular this video is, and how the entire world has practically vilified this kid and his entire family, his dad never actually sat down with his kid and talked about why he should feel sorry about what he did, and why. It took a television interviewer to bring the issue to the table. I can't think that his dad is a bad person, just that he's not talking with his kids about the important issues like he should be; but it just blows me away that if something of this magnitude can't make a parent do their intended task, what will?

Really, that's not a rhetorical question; what will?

>> ^Crosswords:

>Sincerity not found.
...This kid is going to have some real problems in the future if pops doesn't step up his parenting game. So far his biggest concern seems to be the public humiliation and vitriol he's suffering cause his kid got caught being a twat. He needs to be extremely alarmed by his child's seeming lack of empathy or inability to judge appropriate reactions to a lackadaisical insult.

Casey Heynes' Bully Richard Gale says HE was bullied first

Asmo says...

>> ^Xax:

Whatever happened... it really sucks for him that the whole world is judging him now, whereas back in my day, it would've been a few kids on the school yard and that's probably it. He's 12. He maybe deserved getting his ass handed to him. He doesn't deserve the derision and judgement (and probably harassment) of the world for this. Hopefully he succeeds despite his parentage and does well in life.

The 'abused becomes the abuser' excuse doesn't wash. The peer pressure excuse doesn't wash. These kids should be taking personal responsibility for their actions. He thought he could play at being a big man dominating others, for whatever reason, well now it's coming back to bite him in the ass. And I for one am pleased as punch. The broken leg, the humiliation and derision etc are the wages of his actions.

As a person who was frequently bullied and stood up for myself (and usually came out of the fight in a better condition than the bully) I have little sympathy for him. You pick a fight, you're gambling that the other guy isn't going to kick your ass. Bullies either gang up or pick what they think are soft targets because they are, at heart, cowards. Rat boy bet wrong.
