Full Metal Jacket - Jelly Doughnut

EDD says...

First off, I'd like to quote what vsbm said some 2 months ago:

>> ^videosiftbannedme:
I actually do appreciate lengthy exposition. Just not Kubrick's way of doing it. Kubrick fans espouse what a genius he was. Overrated is what I see.

All in all I'd say this was a nice, solid movie, although somewhat slow and lacking in drama - at least it was right until the sniper part (near the end). By the way - this is where I start to nit-pick and express my disbelief at how enourmously overrated this film is.

The sniper scene (and I'm not talking about the finale, but the beginning, in which the sniper takes a couple of soldiers out) was awful, just awful; ruined the whole movie for me. It was dragged-out twice the time it should've been and marked by obnoxious unaesthetic use of slow-mo (way to flaunt your 60-fps camera there - a quintile of the whole film was in slow-mo) and even replays. Replays!! That's right, they're terrible even in bloopers and sports vids, and Kubrick decided to implement them here. Even 80s Hong-Kong action flicks did them better.

Ah, well. Mini-rant ends with me saying that the best thing about this film was Adam Baldwin. Chainsaw-wielding badasses FTW!

This scene is brilliant for soliciting an empathetic understanding of why "what happens next" happens. Not funny, just brilliant. I would definitely remove the comedy tag.

what happen next..then happen next I know is not funny the next part but the present part I just upload it is and it what it counts I believe...

Just to set the record straight. THE SNIPER WAS NOT THE HOOKER. Just watched the movie a few minutes ago, watched the credits too. Leanne Hong played the motorcycle hooker "Too beaucoups!", Papillon Soo played the Da Nang hooker "Me so horny!", and Ngoc Le was the sniper.

FNG ryjkyj forced me to watch one of the best movies ever all over again. Bastard.

It took me years to figure out that she was the prostitute.

the book this was based off is called The Short-timers and its great. Plus it has a whole other ending. and its short. strongly recommended for anyone who liked this movie. it's got some really gritty shit about jungle warfare and the mindfuck that place was. how soldiers would have to walk in a line with their hands out in front on their buddy's shoulder at night in the jungle because it was so dark. or all the booby traps they set up. or how stepping on a loud twig/stick could be your death. or soldiers copying animal sounds to communicate at night. endless shit of cool stuff like that

You can read Short-Timers at Hasford's website right here

She was?! Which prostitute, the "me so horny/evy-ting you want" or "too bu cu"?

FYI, she was just repeatedly saying "Troi oi" which is roughly translated and understood to mean "Oh my god" in English.

@antimatter: Sounds like a good read.

Hollow Point Bullet Through Gelatine

RajaJaja says...

Well, since it's been so long, I decided to look into it more closely.

Here's a great page with wound ballistics data (and pictures):
http://www.firearmstactical.com/wound.htm

In essence, all bullets "tumble" or yaw once they hit flesh. The 5.56mm tumbles more quickly, increasing the chance it will fully turn inside the body rather than after exiting. Nice. Perhaps more significantly, it's designed to fragment. Therefore, under ideal conditions, the 5.56mm will transfer a higher percentage of it's energy to the target before exiting, if it exits.

So when using full-metal jacketed military round, the tumbling (and fragmenting) factor is a significant consideration. Using hollow-point rounds, tumbling is a non-issue.

I stand corrected.
