Oh, and I used to live about a half hour drive south of Pittsburgh. I also used to attend the same church as THE Mr. Fred Rogers! Good times.

Fox spreading the idea that Mr Rogers was a bad influence

quantumushroom says...

Such righteous indignation! The rest of the US media, which y'all confirm as liberally-biased every time y'all whine about FOX, denigrates the President of the US around the clock and tries to break the morale of our military and its supporters, and here y'all are whining about, what exactly?

Fred Rogers doesn't give a shit either way, according to the many atheists around here he's just a pile of meaningless dust now.

Remember?

BTW Fox News Channel isn't conservative: "Even employees of Fox News, which is widely regarded as a conservative channel, donate 81 percent of their contributions to Democrats." --John Lott in new book "Freedomnomics"

you have found my kryptonite.
Fred Rogers was such an amazing person.
The man is pretty much spottless. His dedication to helping children learn to deal with life, emotions, and such was just amazing. I get all misty-eyed when I watch the video where he testified to congress way back in, I think the late 60s or early 70s about getting more funding for public television.

Thanks for the promote and for all of the recent Rogers sift.

My daughter is now a devoted fan of Mister Rogers. I just realized the other day that Fred Rogers is doing the show on his lunch break. Just comes home and provides so much information, care, and fun on his break. Heroic.

Mister Rogers receives his Lifetime Achievement Award - 1997

Aaaaaand... I just found out that Mister Dressup was his understudy.

It's.. interesting the relationships we have with the television that we watched as children.

Whereas Mr Rogers was the mostly boring but slightly creepy uncle that you didn't really want to hang out with.. Mr Dressup was... well, he was my grandpa. My real grandpa lives on the other coast, and I almost never got to see him, but Mr. Dressup looked a bit like him, and I got to see him every day.

It was really only fairly recently that I realised/remembered how much I loved Mr Dressup, and put together the pieces of my emotional childhood to figure out that he really did play the role of grandfather in my early childhood.

I find it quite unnerrving to hear that studied under Fred Rogers. There is something just not right about that.

Mister Rogers Goodbye

swampgirl says...

"I got into television because I hated it so. And I thought there was some way of using this fabulous instrument to be of nurture to those who would watch and listen."

“Knowing that we can be loved exactly as we are gives us all the best opportunity for growing into the healthiest of people.”

“How sad it is that we give up on people who are just like us.”

"Of course, I get angry. Of course, I get sad. I have a full range of emotions. I also have a whole smorgasbord of ways of dealing with my feelings. That is what we should give children. Give them ... ways to express their rage without hurting themselves or somebody else. That's what the world needs."

"We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It's easy to say 'It's not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.' Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes."

- Fred Rogers
