UK Threatening to Raid Ecuador Embassy to Get Julian Assange

thumpa28 says...

Its not up to me to convince you rape is wrong, its not even part of this discussion.

The only reason Britain is involved is the small point that Assange is here? Im sure there are many people like me who wish he was far far away. As to what he thinks, that's irrelevant. You cant seriously argue that perpetrators of crimes should be able to think their way out of responsibility? Anyway, I have no idea what point you are making, so this is just going round in circles.I cant stand the fucker, you seem to admire him, lets leave it at that.

As to the foreign office cocking things up spectacularly, yes they did. Took all the focus off Ecuadors human rights record and slathered it with neo colonialist bull. Thats what happens when Hague gets left in charge, we can only thank god he never got to be PM.

Perhaps if you keep repeating this then it will become true and i will be happy for him to get away with rape. You never know. Keep repeating it and see if it works out for you.
Yes he's been charged with something, but he thinks that the government (or several governments) is (are) conspiring against him. So he applied for asylum to another country who granted it.
Now unless ecuador has an extradition treaty with the US, why are we still discussing this? In fact, even if they do - why are we discussing this? I keep telling you that i want britain to keep out, yet you keep accusing me of being a rape supporter. You haven't read a single post i've written so far. Every reply has been either a lie or about something i didn't say.
You're not convincing anyone that either a) i'm a supporter of rapists, or b) that you're not simply a julian assange hater for whatever reason.
However i do agree with your last post - some fucking idiot tory silver spoon rich boy opened his stupid mouth to flex nuts that no one wanted flexing by saying "Actually, we can take him if we want." I bet the diplomatic guys are furious at the shit-storm that created.
>> ^thumpa28:
And you sound like his mother. You want him to get away with his crimes because what? He happened to run a company that released something someone else stole? That make sexual assault ok in your book?
>> ^dannym3141:
If he is a rapist, then he should be brought to justice - but how can you trust law/court justice when the law/court is effectively an involved party?

14 BILLION YEARS OF EVOLUTION IN ONE MINUTE

shagen454 says...

Boner: It is still confusing...

Astrophysicists have created the most realistic computer simulation of the universe's evolution to date, tracking activity from the Big Bang to now -- a time span of around 14 billion years -- in high resolution.

Created by a team at the Harvard-Smithsonian Centre for Astrophysics (CfA) in collaboration with researchers at the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS), the Arepo software provides detailed imagery of different galaxies in the local universe using a technique known as "moving mesh".

Unlike previous model simulators, such as the Gadget code, Arepo's hydrodynamic model replicates the gaseous formations following the Big Bang by using a virtual, flexible grid that has the capacity to move to match the motions of the gas, stars, dark matter and dark energy that make up space -- it's like a virtual model of the cosmic web, able to bend and flex to support the matter and celestial bodies that make up the universe. Old simulators instead used a more regimented, fixed, cubic grid.

"We took all the advantages of previous codes and removed the disadvantages," explained Volker Springel, the HITS astrophysicist who built the software. Springel, an expert in galaxy formation who helped build the Millennium Simulation to trace the evolution of 10 billion particles, used Harvard's Odyssey supercomputer to run the simulation. Its 1,024 processor cores allowed the team to compress 14 billion years worth of cosmic history in the space of a few months.

The results are spiral galaxies like the Milky Way and Andromeda that actually look like spiral galaxies -- not the blurred blobs depicted by previous simulators -- generated from data input that stretches as far back as the afterglow of the Big Bang, thus portraying a dramatic cosmic evolution (see the above video for a sneak peek of that evolution from four billion years after the Big Bang).

"We find that Arepo leads to significantly higher star formation rates for galaxies in massive haloes and to more extended gaseous disks in galaxies, which also feature a thinner and smoother morphology than their Gadget counterparts," the team states in a paper describing the technology.

Though the feat is impressive -- CfA astrophysicist Debora Sijacki compares the high-resolution simulation's improvement over previous models to that of the 24.5-metre aperture Giant Magellan Telescope's improvement over all telescopes -- the team aim to generate simulations of larger areas of the universe. If this is achieved, the team will have created not only the most realistic, but the biggest universe simulation ever.

this video is a waste without addition information.
what am I looking at. spiraling gas' or something.
what is the significance, why did nine people upvote something they probably do not understand.
what part of the universe is this ? why didnt it start at the beginning ?
WHY WHY FUCKING WHY.

Awesome fountain pen is awesome!

Porksandwich says...

Gotta use expensive paper to write well with those pens too. The cheap stuff bleeds through or catches the pen tip, or rips holes through the paper when you try to make the pen flex and write stylishly.

Gets fairly expensive with the cost of fountain pens, decent ink, and good paper.

I used to use a fountain pen when I was younger and cared more about how my writing looked and was a little bit of a collector of weird pens/mech pencils. Then I got into computers, realized typing was loads easier because you could screw up all you wanted...and the carpal tunnel started, etc etc. Was just easier to use the keyboard versus having the cramping hands from trying to write neatly.

And now my handwriting looks like a little kid or doctor wrote it, and I hate people who hand me a clipboard to fill stuff out. Clipboards have to be pretty close to the most horrible writing surface you can have to write on...they are not natural to hold at all for me.

How High Can We Build?

raverman says...

Yeah, call me a nerd but i was actually wanting to hear a hypothesis...

But now i think about it it's probably a 'how long is a length of string' argument. The tower has to be as long as it's cumulative weight based on gravity at different lengths from sea level. It's weight depends on the materials used and the structures at different points (base, flexible joints, etc)

Every different design for a space elevator probably has a different length and weight?

However i would be interested in how the forces / torque shape up on such a structure.
e.g. G at both ends, stresses at mid point pulling in both directions, flex, wind shear, torque, harmonics. Is it better at the equator than anywhere else?

also, survivors of realllly long falls typically hit the ground lying flat (apparently). You know, so all the bones in your legs don't suddenly end up trying to occupy the same space as your liver, intestines, lungs, heart...all that shit that kinda keeps you alive basically.
I was also told once that even in short falls often somebody who is drunk or unconscious comes away with less injuries than somebody who is alert and awake, altho I think on balance I'd rather break and arm or a wrist than fall on my head.

Watched a show documenting a tornado sucking a guy out of his house and him surviving being throw like a mile or two away with bruises and scraps, no broken bones that I recall and no major injuries. Supposedly he walked home.

Their answer for him surviving was that he was knocked out as soon as the tornado got a hold of him, something in the house bashed him in the head and knocked him out or whatever.

Now their reason for him being basically unharmed is that because he was young and knocked out, his tendons and musculature weren't holding his bones rigid like you would when you fell by instinct. And since he was young his bones had flexibility, like bones are meant to, they will flex instead of break when there's nothing holding them rigid or fixed.

So he hit and rolled and rolled but because he was out cold he never reacted to the force and tried to control yourself by holding yourself rigid and trying to grab or hold to stop yourself.

So, I'd say what you've heard is probably true. And I don't think anyone would be able to survive unscathed like that guy did if they were alert when it happened...because you would react to the pain and force of the blows...especially if you were unable to see due to the crap blowing around.

U.S. Files Complaint Over Restrictions On Rare Earth Metals

GeeSussFreeK says...

Here's my translation of "environmental protection":
"Piss off, America! We're not some third world country that you can bully into handing over all its resources for a pittance."

Indeed, but trade wars over really rare things can be pretty crazy destabilizing. Rare earths form the entire backbone of advanced industry, a drastic interruption can easily in this day in age be called an act of war...much like when we embargoed oil from japan in WW2. I ain't saying they aren't justified, just this could get ugly, more ugly than one might consider for rocks. Hopefully, this is just 2 large powers flexing, and nothing more comes of it.

Handling a Female Black Widow Spider

Introducing: Google Currents

spoco2 says...

Ah, right, ok. So I just went to the website for it, which linked to the market for it, which showed that it's incompatible with my LG Optimus One

Why?

What can a newsreading app possibly need that my phone doesn't have?

Except if it has been coded using Flex then it'll need an ARM7 CPU, which mine isn't... that's about the only thing I could think of

I guess Pulse will have to do for me.

[edit] OK, it's f*cking region based. It's not available to me because I don't live in the bloody US of A.

God this is really starting to shit me with Google. First Google Music, now this. You're supposed to be a GLOBAL company damnit.

USA is the center of the bloody world
