Firefly Online Trailer

SquidCap says...

That was awful, games like this just don't fit in the "coca cola" marketing world.. Firefly universe is dirty and gritty with a good sense of humor, not far from post-apocalyptic genre. It certainly is not Farmville or Sims, where this ad would fit perfectly.. If it wasn't Firefly, this ad would cause zero interest from my part and it makes me think that the game is utter crap.

Total fail. Hope the game is good (their website is down atm and it seems the publisher is not even remotely prepared for release yet, apart from some beer mugs etc merc)

Joss Whedon On Mitt Romney

Jinx says...

I don't rly think Obama is as bad as Yogi thinks, but I think its worse to vote for Obama purely because you don't want Romney. If you honestly don't think either party deserves your vote then you should mess your paper. Tick every box. That or find an independent. Its dumb to complain about your lack of choice and then endorse the 2 party system with a vote to the lesser evil. Oh, and don't write off idealism as naive. We want to make our reality a better place instead of giving up on it.

Zomney explains why some republican voters have apparently signed away their brains.

Oh, and Whedon, now you're like a big shot movie dude and everything can we get some more Firefly/Serenity please?

I love Joss Whedon. Everything he's done I worship at the guys feet. Stay outa politics Whedon so I don't have to hate you.

Sorry, Repubs made it personal so you have to fight back.
This "wah! they're equally bad" nonsense is just that.

I'm sorry but what the fuck are you talking about? How did repubs call out Joss Whedon? I'm saying he should leave it be, I don't want him in politics because I'm a fan of his. I don't like hearing people who don't know shit about fuck telling me what I should do.
I voted for Obama once, he sounded like a good choice, also it was a historical event I wanted to be a part of. I knew he wouldn't do much, I didn't know he would go around assassinating children and trying his best to make sure Pakistan breaks up and hands out it's nukes like candy. Or that there would be NO CHANGE in how Israel does business, Gaza is still the worlds largest prison, Israel is completely immune to international law.
Sorry Mother Fucker, I voted for him once he ain't getting my vote again. And I want Whedon to shut up about this because I like him, and I can't stand to see the man who made Firefly support a War Criminal.

WTF? Did Obama visit Yogi and do a Sandusky on him or something? Talk about taking it personal.

I agree both parties are shitty, but it's demonstrable that one is worse than the other. Yeah, I'm not exactly a fan of drone strikes and dead civillians. But you honestly think the other guy is any better? Or hey, you want to go back to Bush the lesser and not only have a bunch of dead civillians, but have a bunch of dead Americans too because of wars of deception? Romney's beating the war drums for Iran. Yeah...SO MUCH BETTER!! lets have MORE dead people wooo!! I'm sorry, but cherry picking drone strikes is pretty bad tunnel vision, when in reality, it's actually drastically reduced the death toll because they are strikes instead of another occupation where even more people would be killed.

I'm sorry, but we are never going to live in a world where our politicians are squeaky clean. Even in a utopia, our politicians are going to have to, by necessity, do shitty things. In the real world, people have to get their hands dirty.

It's great that you're idealistic, really, I applaud it. But here in the real world, we really do have to choose between the lesser of two evils. Take your pick or stfu.

Edit: sorry, I always mix up Kofi and Yogi for some reason.

I was going to reply to him but you guys covered it pretty well. The crazy storylines, the wild writing, characters that were up, then down.. that was the fun about it. Farscape remains one of my all-time fav shows simply because every time I watched a new episode I left it with a massive grin on my face. It was just one of the most fun shows I've ever watched.

>> ^00Scud00:

Farscape could be really over the top sometimes, but then I think that's at least part of what I liked about it, overall I thought the show was pretty well written and I enjoyed the hell out of a lot of the characters. As for why people tend to deify Firefly so much I think it could be compared to just falling in love with someone and then having them promptly die on you, they weren't around long enough to really disappoint you in any big way so your memory of them will be pretty much be eternally perfect.
>> ^Yogi:
>> ^Reefie:
Farscape is definitely a show that has to be watched from beginning to end in order to follow the threads and feel like you know where you are with it. It's a stark contrast to Firefly where episodes are an entire story unto themselves with only a couple of background story threads being maintained at any one point. IMO Farscape's complex story is second only to Babylon 5's epic-ness when considering the story-arc aspect of sci-fi TV shows.
Also helps to be a little bit crazy to fully appreciate Farscape. A love of the 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky helps too

That doesn't explain the characters, they were sometimes very poorly written, by any standard.

Things I liked about Firefly:

- Mal was sometimes moral and admirable, loyal to ship and crew, but also a dirty sleezebag when required. Awesome hero/anti-hero combo
- Young Morena Baccarin = HOT!! Loved the sexual tension she had with Mal
- Self-reliance of western + mystique of space = WIN. I think that atmosphere is what made the show so enticing, so full of possibilities
- They sometimes spoke chinese words and phrases, such a clever and original prediction of our cultural future
- Fuck lasers (only had it in 1 episode I think)
- Outer space is silent (with very few exceptions), THANK YOU FOR RESPECTING PHYSICS AND COMMON SENSE.

What I didn't like:

- silly overelaborate dialog sometimes
- Gina Torres is too smoking HOT for Alan Tudyk, sorry I didn't buy them being a couple for one second
- Speaking of Alan, I was always expecting him to be so funny, but he never was, and his character was so bland and dispensable, which explains why he was killed in the movie
- Nathan Fillion should've toned down being so clever, I wish his character were a bit darker. Can't stand him in Castle either, sorry.

Firefly was very good while it lasted, but I've always been more of a Farscape fan and would much rather see a reunion episode of that.
/runs for the door

I've watched a lot of Farscape. It is sometimes very good. Other times though it's just farcical. I mean I started watching it in the order that you're intended to watch it, and the Characters still had no consistency. You never knew where anyone stood at any particular time, sometimes they were mad, or happy, or friends, or enemies. It made so little fucking sense and the characters would change WAY too much over a very short period of time, and then go back like nothing was gained or learned.
I love their use of puppetry and the costumes for some of the characters, it was amazing. Some of the story lines and ideas were absolutely fun and great. The consistency and character arcs simply didn't exist though, they were chaotic at the best of times.

Never understood the fascination with that show. It had some good parts (Alan Tudyk for example), but the way people carry on about it, they think it was the second coming. It wasn't that good.

I think the reason Firefly was successful was because it (intentionally or accidentally) emulated the episode formula used by the TV classic The A-Team. No I'm not saying the two shows are similar, I'm only referring to the structure of the episodes being identical.

One other factor that I've noticed is that Firefly's biggest audience was primarily the USA which may be a reflection of the settler backdrop that featured heavily in Firefly. Sure I do know a few Europeans who like Firefly big time, most of the appreciation does seem to be from the USA though. Me, I don't mind Firefly but I never really connected with the show in the same way I know it impacted with others.
