"It Gets Better" project advertised on TV by Google

vaire2ube says...

I'm glad Dan pointed out that not all gay people are feminine or butch. That's the real bigotry behind having femme gays on TV... it reinforces a stereotype, and thus, gays have a voice ... pre-dismissed as abnormal even without the sexual acts. A man can be a man and a woman can be a woman and be homosexual.

Thanks for saying it.

You've spared this sift a lot of bullsh!t posts of "outrage" if I had said it.

These men might have been a gay couple.
Not that gay men can't be masculine, but they have easier time allowing themselves to be feminine than straight men do.

Well, at first I was tempted to upvote. Tho I had to downvote on a matter of principle.
There really is no point to this video, and I abhor crap like this clogging up the sift.

[I long for the days of Summer 2006 when I could easily find an intriguing political video to rant about or be captivated by a stunning new science vid or chuckle at the quick, 10 second 'fail' video submission]

However.. Gwiz, in his infinite penile wisdom, offered us all a second opinion.

It was only upon further review of previously unseen footage ..

was I forced to re-evaluate the quality of this submission. = D

[As evidenced by my avatar, I hold a ..large.. appreciation for the wiles of the feminine form.

You downvoted Azz Bounce but you vote for Gwiz's post of the EXACT SAME VIDEO???
This whole thing amuses me to no end.

French Law Threatens Women for Wearing Burka

packo says...

dogma isn't divinity
want to be part of French society, these are the tennants they hold to be true, you must as well
if they allow Burkas, then Muslims must also accept that women aren't FORCED to wear them in French society (alot already do... they aren't the issue, its those that would beat/rape a woman for not wearing one)

if everyone started wearing ski-masks in public, would people have issue with it? i'm sure criminals would love it... anonimity usually leads to people behaving as poorly as they think they can get away with

tradition/dogma isn't inherently good... ask any Indian woman who has had their face devestated with acid

the Burka is a symbol of feminine repression; if maintaining it is so important to some people, they should maybe realize France isn't the place for them... there's plenty of Arabic countries that enforce it still, and things like public stonings and sanctioned rape

Not your grampa's Wonder Woman (Comics Talk Post)

kronosposeidon says...

If I had my way, I'd go with a look something like this or this for the Amazon princess for any TV or film project. The war skirt is reminiscent of ancient Greek and Roman armor, and in the first pic her leggings are sort of like greaves, so they could be improved some. Both her top and the skirt are made from leather, also like ancient armor, and the breastplate, tiara, and belt are made with real metal. This whole look would not be out of place for =w=, because she has worn armor similar to this in the past in the comic series. She looks pretty badass here while fighting that hydra. (The jet in the background also make the image cool.) This look I think would give her a serious appearance while still making her look feminine, and also give the audience a look that still makes them think "Yes, this is Wonder Woman."

Full disclosure: At one time I embraced the new =w= costume, but not anymore. I'm not saying I hate it, but it's been a disappointment. I liked that they were getting her out of her bathing suit costume:

As you can see, on screen it's just too hard to take seriously. So when I saw the new outfit I thought the jacket might have some practical use, like some kind of protection, and the leather pants as well. However it's worked out that in almost every fight the jacket gets torn to shreds. The pants still don't bother me too much, but I prefer the armored skirt. Guess I just don't care for jeggings. The leather-armored approach linked above would have definitely moved her out of the bathing suit while still staying connected to her history.

A million fanboys would crucify me for dissing her bathing suit if this site had a million Wonder Woman fanboys. Too bad. I know that at any given time at least 10% of them are whacking off to images like this anyway. Ha! (I'm down to once every other day. Power Girl gets the days in between.)

Far East Asian media is dominated by feminine mentality simply because the female audience and fan participation vastly outnumber the male audience. Both men and women in public media are depicted as people with feelings and pretty hair and such. But this doesn't mean there's less domestic violence in Asian cultures.
In fact, there are more unreported domestic abuse in Asian countries than there are in United States. People also fight, people get hit by cars, people get killed in Asian countries with the same rate as any other countries. How do you explain that according to your ad images?

The valuing of the masculine over the feminine doesn't need to be advertised in East Asian culture; it's taken as read. Fish don't advertise water. In Japan, for instance, it's extremely difficult to find a career as a woman that would come close to the social status and earning potential that men can acquire.

I think you're conflating individualist values with masculine values, to be quite honest. There is nothing "masculine" about cooperation, and nothing inherently "feminine" about individualism. The reason the Northern European peoples were able to have female leaders going back centuries had everything to do with their individualism, and not much to do with their masculinism; they shared the latter with their military foes, and only with the valuing of the individual was it possible to conceive of, for example, Queen Boadicea, who gave the Romans so much difficulty in Britain.

I'm not sure I wholly agree with what she claims at the 4th segment of the video about consequences of objectifying men and about femininity vs masculinity.

She claims that valuing masculinity over femininity leads to violence.

She also complains that in her society masculine values are prioritized over feminine values, and that leads to violence.

Your culture of glorifying masculinity has brought universal suffrage mind you, while most other countries where they prioritize cooperation of community and other 'feminine' values end up oppressing women because they want to keep things the way they are.

Historically most Northern European countries valued masculine values over feminine. And yet these countries were the ones who brought women into battlefields in Roman times and also adopted the first Universal suffrage.

Stick to your original comments about media effecting women's body image lady. Don't get off track.

Of course, that was the wrong attitude. Too bad you didn't realize that being in a girl-heavy profession has certain advantages in your later years. Alas, piano is actually pretty guy-heavy, and two pianists shouldn't date anyways lest their egos collide... it's true.

Well, at least you have come to grips with your feminine side. Female avatars are always better to look at than guy ones, and if you have to always look at yours then... you know... Myself, sometimes I pick female avatars in RPGs because the toon is better to look at and in MMOs you can get all those nerds to help you do quests by giggling.

Also, apparently one beer makes me talk about random stuff...

Pretty girl morphs into Jared Leto

xxovercastxx says...

Most of what she's done is manipulate light and shadow, via the makeup, to accentuate bone structure: more prominent cheekbones, flattening the cheeks, the cleft nose...

But makeup can only go so far and some things are still going to stand out. Her jawline is still lower and more rounded, her neck is still thinner and longer, her ears are still smaller and higher. I'm guessing these are the visual cues you're picking up on.

*art *anatomy

>> ^Yogi:

I was amazed at how good of a job she did yet how a face can still look distinctively female. There's some inbetween sure but she has a very feminine looking face that shows through.
