Opel P-1 - 376 Miles Per Gallon Car in 1973!

Spoon_Gouge says...

Reading the links given above, it would be easy to get caught up in what is potentially fakery as Jimbo points out. The guy in the video was pointing out less than a 3rd of the 376 mpg should be possible, but I think the market is only now beginning to cry out for such numbers. It would be interesting to see how the car performs...

AirRace plane loses wing, watch what happens next!

this is real, I know a guy who knows someone who read directly about someone who was there

That video has even fooled some good pilots. Apart from the obvious fakery of the landing, right after the wing allegedly comes off, the plane starts spiraling on the down line. The thing is that it's turning into the remaining wing. That's aerodynamically impossible, and I'm not talking about "the engineers say a bumble-bee can't fly" type of impossible, there is no way for it to happen.

Very elaborate fakery doesn't equate to not being fake. High entertainment value for the fans though, I guess, so I'll reserve my downvote this time.

Crazy Driver Nearly Killed By Train

Ghostly says...

Even before the supposed dissapearing act by the car on the left, you can already see the train in the distance, and it doesn't appear to jump at the same point.

The ghosting is just an interlacing effect smoothed out by the small res and compression of the video which is only noticable for rapid motion, and you can see it on the train too.

The car stops, because it appears the barrier only blocks the incoming lanes of traffic, so the driver entered in the opposite lane and had to navigate around the barrier on the other side, but obviously failed to do it smoothly.

Timing being too perfect is not proof of anything, there are many examples of crazy near misses.

I do however, concede poor camera placement for license plate collection, but it's not necessarily evidence of fakery, and the other evidence given is weak at best.

Drove your car into a pool? Make sure you apply the brakes.

mega - i think your sense of internet-video fakery, while a very healthy thing to have, might be a little hair-trigger.

after all, you have no idea what was being filmed, 2 seconds before what you see here, right?

so, are you implying that the photographers were in on it, then? and that they all figured it was worth ditching that vehicle, for a funny video?
