Chaos erupts at LA City Hall as council votes to ban homeles

newtboy says...

D’oh!
And again, today California/Newsom announced another new program aimed directly at helping the mentally ill homeless called the community assistance and recovery act (CARe) designed to stabilize them mentally, , get them services, and get them off the streets. Stage one is $63 million to serve 7-12000, with $1.4 billion to train businesses on how to safely employ them once they’re stable, housed, and off street drugs. No new tax required, the advantage of Democratic policies making us the strongest and largest economy in America by far.

What has your legislature done to help the homeless there?

bobknight33 said:

Why can't California build space for these people or facilities for those with drug addition/ mental illness . Just add another gas tax or such.

Memes of the Day

newtboy says...

Lol. Such stupidity @bobknight33, as expected. No facts, no arguments to make, so let’s make infantile memes to show what serious adults we are instead….and it worked exactly as expected.

BTW- $43 billion won’t solve world hunger for a month…no amount of money can. New IRS enforcement agents make the government money, they don’t waste it. When their directive is to go after rich tax cheats, not anyone making under $400k per year but those making millions and paying zero taxes, yes, that’s an amazing idea that will benefit the country greatly and pay for itself in recovered revenue.

BTW- those empty shelf pictures are from 2000….probably the homeless in cities and lines at borders too. As for vacation, Trump spent 1 out of every 3.4 days, 428 days in total, on vacation as the economy crumbled, pandemic raged, and sedition fomented. Far more than Biden, who has taken way too many days off during the economic recovery, employment boom, and waning pandemic. D’oh!

BTW-Communist China and Vietnam eradicated an enormous lions share of that extreme poverty, well over 500 million out of poverty since 2000 between just those two, going to near 0% poverty by 2015….so much for capitalism’s saving grace, eh? Are you going to go sell the benefits of communism now? Derp.

This is why morons shouldn’t argue, they often make the exact opposite point from what they intended.

Wow do you have reality 100% backwards.
Hunter never worked for the American people, so could not sell out American people like every one of Trump’s children did. He did not get paid billions, he’s never had billions…unlike Jared that was paid 2 billion for Trump’s protection of the crown prince and weapons sales.

Hillary, how did she sell out America? Benghazi? Emails? You got anything that hasn’t been debunked by Republican committees a dozen times? I thought not. Clinton delusion syndrome.

Joe…sell out America? Lol. Give examples, not stupid internet memes claiming Hunter is one of the super rich and powerful along with public train riding Joe.

Trump force one riding crushing debt Trump, no he never would sell out for money. (Spent $60k of donations on Melania’s dress buyer, and another on Newsom’s ex shouting nonsense for 2 minutes, but not a dime on fighting election fraud or supporting Republican candidates he raised it for…permanently barred from charities because of fraud, fraudulent businesses, fraudulent school bilking millions from the poor…the list goes on forever, everything he does includes fraud.)

Trump sold out America for 4 years straight, taking Russia, China, even N Koreans side over America almost every time. Handing over Afghanistan, Crimea, Ukraine, etc. to our enemies.
Trump sold out America over the election, trying dozens of verified vote fraud schemes and he still lost the election badly, then he sold out America again by trying a violent coup to turn us into a banana republic dictatorship.

Trump stole top secret nuclear documents for personal gain, whether to sell, barter for protection, or use to blackmail America, he stole them for personal gain and to harm America, no other reason to have nuclear secrets….none at all. That’s treason plain and simple.

Your delusion has removed you from reality. Trump and family sold America over and over and over and over and over…you can’t point to a single instance from Hunter, Clinton, or Biden selling America for personal gain, I can point to 6 verified undeniable times Trump sold us out for millions and even billions in personal/familial gains from China, Russia, Saidi Arabia, Russian Ukrainians, even the Taliban….

Trump is an asshole who gets things done for himself, and you are a cultist that thinks that’s the same as working for America. He destroyed faith in every government agency he put his people in, destroyed our international standing, destroyed our economy, destroyed our employment numbers, cost >$500 million for his coup, 1 million dead Americans for his denial of the pandemic, and has divided the nation to the point that almost 1/2 the nation wants civil war….and they think that’s patriotic.

Again, just to name 3, Trump sold us out to China for $36 million for Ivanka and however many millions were in his secret Chinese bank accounts they used to bribe him (how’s that amazing trade deal coming?), to Russia for untold funding including hundred million loans he hasn’t paid back (yep, Rusher), to the Saudis for a $2 billion no show contract with Jared so we would sell them billions in high tech weapons.
You can’t list a single sell out from those you listed. Not one. 😂

All 3 living in your head for free….you even make up interesting back stories for them to keep them there. You love them so much you’ve given up your sanity to keep them in your head. 🤦‍♂️

Trump only still gets attention because he’s still attempting to destroy America actively, now with a civil war over his criminal actions, solely to save himself from prosecution, not for America one whit, he doesn’t care one whit how badly he’s damaged America either.

Considering the news, I’m surprised he’s not catatonic.

Trump facing tax fraud, bank fraud, theft of classified documents, keeping classified documents, keeping classified documents unsecured (a separate charge), election interference, election fraud(s), causing a riot, attempting a coup, deriliction of duty, obstruction….
edit: and a judge just determined there is a valid, legitimate, substantive justification for the house committee investigating Trump’s tax fraud to get his un redacted taxes…it’s been ruled to not be just a fishing expedition. Bad week!

Meanwhile Biden has erased the Trump employment losses completely, inflation In July was 0%, gas prices dropping precipitously, massive legislation wins….

https://qz.com/us-inflation-was-0-in-july-1849392395

Reality is kicking the cons in the balls, and it’s wearing soccer cleats. At this rate, Trump’s kindergarten sex slave dungeon should be discovered mid October, with the sign in sheet containing the signatures of nearly half the senate.

Our man handed your man his hat without breaking a sweat…saving the nation from utter disaster, keeping America democratic. He’s been a massive success compared to your man…gdp from -3.5% to almost 6% in one year, a 9.5% improvement!…also the fastest employment gains ever….he doesn’t even have 35 credible women accusing him of rape, nor a decades long history of partying with the worst pedophile in American history and underage girls.

Channeling Founding Fathers, youth shrinks standing armies

newtboy says...

Yeah, not supporting veterans, a Republican goal, couldn’t be a factor.
Refusing to weed out racism, rapists, Nazis, and terrorists, a bill Republicans are blocking, couldn’t be a factor.

Edit: Also Republicans just blocked even voting on a bill to cover cancer treatment for soldiers exposed to toxic burn pits. No way that’s a factor….directly withholding lifesaving treatment for vets with cancer 100% out of spite because a scaled back build back better bill passed. Just outright cruelty and proof they don’t care about veterans one bit, proof to those considering joining that they cannot expect healthcare or other promised benefits, and that their suffering and death are pawns for the right, things to blame on Democrats when it’s convenient, things to completely ignore when it’s time to act to support injured vets.

Lol…morally corrupting youth…like Gaetz? Like Epstein and Trump? Like Judge Roy? Like the Trumpist sedition caucus voting against supporting victims of child sex trafficking? 😂

Fat, overweight (not sure of the difference), low employment, undereducated…all worse in Republican crowds than Democrats, and all are reasons to join, not reasons to avoid service. What?!

There’s lots of reasons, some mentioned above, some not. Neither party serves veterans as they should, but Democrats have definitely been working harder on their behalf.

Yep. The secret service is corrupted. No longer a non political organization, it’s become a Trump criminal cult.

After spending a week insisting the story that they had erased text messages surrounding the coup they were involved in was false, they had all the texts never erased, they supplied all those texts they claimed had not illegally been destroyed….all one of them, one single text. Like they’re thumbing their nose at congress, America, and the law.

2 weeks AFTER 2 official requests for the text messages, they went through with a total erasure of months of texts, including those twice subpoenaed, then spent months stonewalling subpoenas (something they should absolutely never even be capable of and IS definitely criminal), and another month recently falsely denying they erased the texts despite being ordered not to. That’s criminal, dereliction of duty, destruction of government property, and defying a federal subpoena. Every single agent should be prosecuted just like Bannon, and face 2 years for those crimes and sentenced to the maximum as corrupt traitors to America, corrupt law enforcement, and insurrectionists.

Time to disband them, and let Biden replace every officer now employed. No pensions, no benefits. They committed felonies as a group. If this isn’t prosecuted, rule of law is also destroyed in America…thanks Trump. Worst, most criminal, deadliest, most disgraced ex president ever.

One more organization totally corrupted by Trump’s touch. Before Trump they were purely a-political and above reproach, now they are purely political and clearly thoroughly corrupt….just like the Supreme Court, no longer trustworthy and thoroughly corrupt.
Thanks Trump.

This does mean any story the committee comes up with can’t be contradicted. They can decide what to say, and the secret service can eat a bag of baby dicks in silence. This is part of why they didn’t force Trump’s secret service agent to testify, he wasn’t trustworthy, was a well known liar, and had been defying subpoenas for his documentation for months. Also, there’s little chance he would show, like the other co-conspirators. They all claimed they can’t wait to testify, then claim they just can’t do it for no valid reasons.

Lock them up! Lock them up! Lock them up…..

newtboy said:

Ruh roe….after being subpoenaed, the secret service now says they still have the text messages from Jan 5-6 that they previously told the committee were all erased permanently. Funny how the story changed 100% only AFTER they were subpoenaed. Not good for insurrectionists. Also horrific for the reputation of the secret service who now looks like a deep state political tool for Trump.

Trump Wanted Armed Groups At His Jan 6 Rally

newtboy says...

1) not a trial. Sad you just can’t understand or accept that no matter how often it’s pointed out, and telling.

2) only the agents involved denied it, other agents admitted it’s been talked about between agents since Jan 2020. Those two agents, still in Trump’s employ today, and others, are also in big trouble for erasing their text and phone messages and records for the days surrounding the failed coup AFTER being ordered by the courts to preserve them, hardly unbiased or truthful witnesses. Another American institution who’s reputation and trustworthiness have been completely destroyed by Trumpists breaking rules and laws for great great grandad the Ochre ogre.

3) you don’t even know they weren’t called, only not publicly called. They don’t waste time publicly presenting witnesses who can only corroborate non criminal activities. They don’t list the witnesses that testify in secret behind closed doors….for their safety. Rabid Trumpterrorists have made serious death threats against every public witness, some have tried to follow through with them.

Wait….so you want to lap up AOCs bath water? We all know every right wing accusation is an admission….what did you just admit to?

newtboy says...

I’m against it, it’s a crime.
I believe in work visas, refugee status, and legal immigration. I believe in a system of charging employers who hire illegal immigrants to skirt taxes, wage laws, labor laws, etc. harshly enough to make it not worth the risk (like take the company/assets of repeat offenders, and using the money collected to fund the immigration and naturalization department and figure out how to supply labor without forcing people to be criminals to get a job.

Sadly those systems are broken.

Because those systems are completely broken and don’t serve the needs of either the immigrants nor the employees that need their labor, we have a massive illegal immigration problem because we have a massive labor shortage issue.

There is a parallel, but it’s not the same thing. We have (or had until recently) a strong well defended democracy, and an enormous population and landmass compared to 1917-48 occupied Palestine, and they had only a fledgling government when the Jewish war refugees they invited started inviting and facilitating a flood of illegal immigrants with a plan to take over the small country. Most of our illegal immigrants are here to make money to take home, I’m unaware of any efforts to return Texas (pre-breakup) to Mexican control like 40’s -50’s Israel.

IMO, Israel is like if 2/3 of Texas became “Tex-Mex” by force, a new country where only those of Mexican descent have rights, a vote, can own property, etc. and white Texans are forced to live in NW Texas under guard struggling to find food and water with Tex-Mex constantly squeezing them into smaller and smaller areas.
Strangely enough, you will note that those same flag waiving anti immigrant (not just anti illegal immigrant mind you) far right wingers are staunch supporters of Jewish Israel….almost like they don’t know history….wait…

bcglorf said:

@newtboy,

I have to ask your stance on illegal aliens within the USA today in that case, since you seem to use it as a derogative against 1930/40s Jewish refugees fleeing Europe for Palestine...

Feels to me the confederate flag wavers stance on illegal immigrants in the US parallels the picture you're painting of 1930s/40s Palestinian immigration closer than you maybe like to admit.

When Democrats have all branches in their states

newtboy says...

So, Bobby, what is the 2020 Republican platform?
“Block Democrats from any progress”, absolutely nothing else.
There wa a proposal for a Republican Party platform….”1) raise taxes by $4500 on all low income people who today don’t pay taxes because they are below the poverty level and 2) end all social programs like Medicare, Medicare, social security, food assistance programs, etc. by “sun setting” any social program every 5 years and requiring the new legislature to start over from scratch (unless the right has control, then forget it).

“We cannot blame republicans (for rich people not paying taxes) when HOUSE democrats have the majority” 1) the tax breaks for the rich were enacted when Republicans held the house, senate, presidency, and a supermajority in the Supreme Court…a simple majority in the house and no where else after the fact does not give Democrats the ability to repeal a horrific law.

Then he wants to blame the California legislature for local groups fighting against low income housing in their neighborhood, for zoning and construction laws that severely limit where and how you can build. Such nonsense. The housing crisis in California is not limited to the homeless, there just aren’t enough houses to buy or rent. Pretending there are just no programs to secure housing, that the legislatures just don’t care and are ignoring the issue isn’t just ignorant, it’s outright dishonest. No surprise at all considering the source. California has a housing crisis, not simply an “ignoring the homeless “ problem. Property in California is so in demand that average workers are priced out of the market and fully employed people find themselves homeless. Red states have cheap property because successful professional people don’t want to live there, which leads to more affordable housing and fewer homeless. My property has quadrupled in value over 20 years, and I’m not in any town or city.

California just approved $12 BILLION to spend on our homeless issues. Red states pass laws essentially making homelessness a crime, so many homeless migrate to “blue states” where services exist and they aren’t put in jail for sleeping in public or loitering.

Texas just made it illegal for homeless people to camp in tents.

So, Bob, tell me about the Republican plans to house the homeless in red states. About all the services and assistance they want to provide but are blocked by democrats from moving forward. Show me the high end Republican neighborhoods inviting low income housing into their neighborhoods, keeping in mind that many, even in California, are right wing neighborhoods with Republican led local government that blocks construction.

You’ve tried this nonsense propaganda before, about 6 months ago when it was originally posted if I recall, I debunked it thoroughly then. So sad @bobknight33 can’t remember anything for over 3 seconds or he would recall the last time he posted this nonsense opinion piece and I rubbed his nose in it.

You aren’t for assistance for the homeless, you insist you should get the same handout, for the same period of time, despite having no need. You just erased the positive comment above I think someone else made using your account.

You know 1/2 or more would use it up early, then need assistance later.

The “strings” are things like prove you applied to at least one job per day AND do community service until you’re employed. Barriers to getting your shit together and, for many, barriers to applying.

Who gets to determine who qualifies as disabled?

Republicans ARE assholes and you have chronic dependence already in the form of tax breaks (to the point of zero taxes) for their businesses, massive corporate welfare outpacing personal welfare exponentially, use of public services despite not paying for them (roads, ports, police, etc).
If you use ANYTHING the government provides but don’t pay taxes (or minimal taxes equating to 5-10%) you are chronically dependent on government welfare. That describes every Republican business owner I’ve ever known, not one wanted to pay a dime to keep his nation healthy if they could possibly avoid it.

bobknight33 said:

I said this before.

In broad terms...

Endless welfare is wrong,
I'm also against 40+ years of Social security- Its a pyramid scheme.

Should be 1 system where all get say 15 years of benefits.
Should be able to take it a monthly amounts.

Should not be able to start collecting till at least 25. This will make you get a job, get skills and become less dependent.

If you 30 and have a kid and want to take 6 months off then deduct it from those 15 years.

if 50 and burned out. take a year off go to school or such and refresh. Deduct that from you 15 years. Now you have 14.

You get in a wreck and laid up for a year, loose you job, no problem. Use 1 of your years.

I dont want strings if you want to buy drugs, travel, or go to school does not matter.

When you 65 and only have 8 years left of benefits your should keep working. Maybe taking a lessor job. maybe take those 8 years at full rate take it at 1/2 rate as a supplement.

Its you life you know what you need not government.

Also in general, This should not apply to , mental illness patients and those who truly can not function on their own. or their care takers if family members.

Republicans aren't assholes we just don't want chronic dependence.

( as in Giga Texas) If you were to invest $10 billion and employ 20,000 workers for next 30 years, would you not shop around for the best location, taking into account taxes among other things?

As state would you want make that deal?

If Ca tax is 10% and TX is 5% would this not make one consider?

Land cost , local / state rates? The influx of people to your area would increase your tax base for decades.

If you were a Musk would you not do the same?

newtboy said:

Tesla made deals to not pay taxes. You can pretend that’s patriotic, it’s not. I didn’t say they ignored or committed fraud to escape taxes, I said they don’t pay them. Yes, it’s a “the governor and/or legislature can waive taxes for companies he likes” policy issue, I find it abhorrent no matter which party does it, they both do.

If you backroom deal with right wing governors/legislatures to avoid taxes, you are far right, at least economically. I thought he came out as a Trump guy too, but might be wrong.

Yeah, the crutch of it for me is the UBI moniker.

What you describe at the end of your post, minimum income, is really just a rewording of the existing social security and welfare systems across the western world. I know they look different in each, but here in Canada what you describe is more or less our already existing system's design goal. Welfare money exists for those that straight up can not work, and an employment insurance system exists to protect those inbetween jobs, meanwhile other multiple programs are aimed at distributing financial assistance to the lower income groups.

Despite all of that already existing, UBI is still being heralded up here in trials as well as a replacement. The problem being that for the needy the UBI pitches are generally a step backwards.

Eg. $500/month is the UBI pitch, and they say it'll be great because everyone gets it no matter what so it's simple and fair and nobody is left behind. The trouble though is that the reality is the truly in need people were already benefitting more than the $500/month under the existing systems, and the cost was much less because it was targeted.

I here UBI and get very worried about folks just selling snake oil 'solutions' that in the end are just a demand to adopt their own particular flavor of wealth redistribution.

newtboy said:

Did they offer that in the program, or was it only random individuals….or are you extrapolating, assuming the program became universal? I thought this plan was just for the indigent.

$500 each for 4 works out to more than my wife brought home for 40 hours a week after 15 years at her last job…..barely livable for 4 anywhere in California, a nice income in some states. Not a huge amount to provide for 6 months. How much does temporary housing, services, extra law enforcement, etc cost over that time for 4 people? I assume their close.

Yes, universal income is costly, but most on the right won’t consider giving the destitute money if they don’t get a handout too, that likely multiplies the amount by over 10 times. With a means test, it would be billions, maybe under $100 billion. We spent nearly $6 trillion on bad Covid response in 2020, including trillions to corporate welfare handouts with no strings attached and they still fired millions of workers. I think if that’s ok we can afford to invest in making people productive again instead of drains on society (of course, not everyone will benefit, but 75% success must be a win overall). If not, socialize any corporation that took a bailout, we bought em, we should own them.

…Or taking on more debt like every government project, but the increase in gdp from turning costs into profits likely pays for the program without a dime in new taxes, just a reduction in costs of handling the homeless and new taxes from their incomes….especially if you have a means test and not universal income.

Yes, they convoluted by calling it universal income but focusing on homeless. It should be UMI. Universal Minimum Income….under employed get less than unemployed up to a certain minimum livable combined income, fully employed (with living wages) get nothing….IMO. Sadly, a large portion of people can’t see what’s in that plan for them (no homeless, less crime dumbshits) so won’t consider it unless they also get $500 even though that’s not even a noticeable amount to them….one more ivory backscratcher.

bcglorf said:

I'm gonna have to be that guy. $500 a month for a family of four is $2k, which is a very good chunk of money to drop in your lap.

That works out the same as it they were on a single income, working 40 hour weeks at $10/hr, so almost equivalent to a full time job. No doubt that's gonna be a big deal and noticeable financial improvement to the recipient(s).

As always with UBI schemes, the devil is in how you pay for it. If it's truly universal, paying $500/month to ~330 million Americans would cost $1.98 Trillion dollars, meanwhile the current entire US gov budget for 2022 is estimated at $1.2 Trillion.

So, to implement $500/month universally in America would require not only increasing overall tax revenues by almost 50% it would also require the cancellation of 100% of every single other expenditure. That not includes military spending going to zero, but even cancelling the jobs of everyone that collects taxes and would presumably have been responsible for distributing the $500 checks.

If the 'fix' is to just tax the pants off anyone earning more than the $500/month, or limiting who we give it to, then it ceases to be a UBI scheme, and is instead just a mundane modification of the existing social security scheme by shuffling more money back and forth between different folks.
