The Grauniad ran an opinion piece by former NYT executive editor Jill Abramson abtly titled "This may shock you: Hillary Clinton is fundamentally honest". The headline is enough to make my head spin, nevermind the content. Not worth spending time on, really. You can guess what the comment section thought of it. Not surprisingly, it was closed after an hour.

Worth a read, however, is a recent polemic by Sean Kerrigan: Will We Elect Hillary After Her Many, Many War Crimes?

What made me laugh was this: the supposed presidential frontrunner would have been hanged if judged by the standards set at the Nuremberg Trials, yet Amal Clooney, a human rights lawyer, holds a fundraiser for Clinton at $350k per pair for seats at her majesty's table. Who the hell needs satire anyway, not even Doug Stanhope could come up with most of the twisted shit reality confronts us with day in, day out.

Last but not least, Robert Fisk wonders why neither Cameron nor Obama seem to be celebrating the retaking of Palmyra from the IS.

Very pretty. Very smooth. I think I could get bored of those melee "finish him" moves after a while. If doomguy is strong enough to rip the jaw off so many of the lower level enemies, I almost wonder why he'd bother carrying guns at all, except to save up ammo for a Revenant or cyberdemon. The map editor looks like a nice feature. Map editing was one of the best things about the original doom/II.

The show is fake, nobody is being tricked, the people are cast. The "illusions" are assembled from multiple takes by an editor. They don't even hide the cameras.

I'm confused - people are saying that Trump gets coverage so that the media group in question make more money (through bigger audiences). But what makes more money in the long run than a useful ally in a position of power?

A little bit naive to think that personal politics (of the owner, who chooses the editor, etc.) plays no part in media coverage. They don't call Rupert Murdoch a king maker for nothing, and it isn't like the Murdoch family has a list as long as my arm of shady dealings, bribery, corruption, etc.

The turkeys don't vote for christmas, and Murdoch isn't going to advertise for someone who believes in workers rights, equality and making sure huge multinationals pay their fair share of tax.

Exchange Murdoch for any billionaire media mogul you like - the Barclay brothers for example, also not very interested in equality and paying a fair share of tax. Yes it's sensationalism, but it's also powerful men using their influence to protect their interests. As the man in the video himself says.

Anyway, it worked for us over here - we got Jeremy Corbyn in despite the best efforts of every prominent news outlet. I'm not sure if America is ready for a bit socialism just yet, but the tide is changing in worldwide public opinion, i hope.

Surprised he didn't mention the importance of the colours on the slate for editing purposes. Allows the editor and post-production folks to ensure everything looks right in the final mastered version of the film. For example if an actor's costume appears to be a different colour in certain lightning then the post-production folks can adjust the filter for the whole scene using the colours on the slate as guidance.

? I'm confused. I admitted my 'test' was lacking, and deferred to @ChaosEngine who didn't trust his eyes but measured...so I am no longer certain it's 'fake' at all, in fact I was careful to NEVER call it 'fake'. Perhaps you only read my first post in this thread and missed my admission that I was wrong?

As I said, I think there's a reason it LOOKED like it did to me...probably the surrounding color reflecting off the white paper I used to mask off and 'coloring' the grey squares....and likely the paper I used was not perfectly straight to use as a straight edge....and measuring anything on a screen is less than perfect, which is why I poorly measured the table and lines...the second time I measured it I did better, and I admit they are the same size contrary to my original statement.
I also only saw grey pills.

The reason I was skeptical is I've seen these same 'illusions' faked many times. For instance, the last time I saw the Rubik's cube, the tiles had dark shaded colored edges they removed when 'masking off' which obviously changed the color. It's not that I don't 'believe' in optical illusions, I just think people are cheaters more often than not these days and fudge things they don't need to fudge. This time it was my method of 'masking off' that seems to be my issue...I don't have an image editor that will do much for me here....sadly...but it doesn't mean I don't trust Chaosengine who did and set me straight.

@newtboy - I'm blown away at how certain you are it's all fake. I suggest you do what I did: Instead of using paper on your screen, just take a screenshot and insert into an image editor and inspect things there.

I dragged straight lines on the checkerboard before and after the dots were added, and it has only straight lines.

Nothing was fudged in the video. It just shows how powerfully your brain is latching onto what it believes it is seeing.

It's like that dress photo from a few weeks ago. "Is it white and gold or purple and black?!" Many people were hardcore in one direction or the other.

The only one that left me confused is the pills. 1) He said they were red and blue, but they were yellow and turquoise. 2) They had holes in the pills allowing the background color through; it was only there that they looked colored, otherwise they were just gray. I suspect they were just trying to shoe-horn in a red pill blue pill Matrix reference.

This had all the pieces needed to be great. I hope the editor has been blacklisted.

@Fairbs I have good days and bad days with them... but the good days are when I am inside not looking at blue skies : ) Or snowy fields, that can be bad. I actually switch my videosift to black and for my job (as software developer) I switch my editors to black backgrounds also. This minimizes their appearance.

For telescopes and microscopes , I use binoviewers which dramatically reduce the perception of floaters as two eyes are averaged out.
