Many of your videos have been so close to my own personal tastes that it made me a little paranoid.

Namaste.

Siftquisition of feature Siftquisition (User Poll by Ornthoron)

schmawy says...

I haven't voted yet. My first instinct is to vote it away, because it is so ugly, and a reminder of all the things I don't like about "us". Our biases and fears, our wild mobs.

There are Sifters who don't even bother with this stuff and just do the "video" thing instead. Remember that thing we used to do? The thing about finding and curating a really eclectic, comprehensive collection of web videos? Something that's rich in content and and enriching to be a part of? You can still do that you know.

Yet even though I haven't traveled particularly far across intertoobia, I like to think there is something about this community that makes the headache and drama worth it. As far as I know this is one of the only places like it. Maybe there's a really kick-ass basket weaving forum somewhere that is equally as diverse and lively, but I've yet to come across it.

Web communities remind me of pioneer towns. I delude myself into thinking that we're building a new country, breaking ground on how web communities organize themselves, that this is a wild, prospecting endeavor. But now the sheriff and the deputy got sick of the mobs banging on the door, so they built a courthouse. Then they gave you the ultimate power of self-determination. You can even vote to burn the courthouse down.

This community has come a long way because of mostly benevolent and mostly even handed management, far more good calls than could be expected of any two people. But I think if we're going to move forward we need to embrace the responsibility of ruiling ourselves. Someone's going to have to figure it out eventually, after all.

So I'm going to vote to keep Siftquisitions, and accept the opportunity to determine our own path. I would even consider encouraging the submitter to discard the poll, because you can't put it all on two men.

I always thought that the channel system was the solution for when you don't want to watch "channel 1" type videos.
http://obscure.videosift.com/

The channels are not advertised as well as they could be so their singular use is fairly rare. Before they all had their own sticker/logo that you click and actually experience them as separated 'collectives' apart from the main sift. That isn't there anymore.

A rotating button system of channels would have been great, You have say an Obscure logo on the right and "Explore rare eclectic music!" or Stand Up "Great Stand Up comedy from around" the sift. That would create more localized viewership.

You know what am saying.

Should VideoSift have a 'game room?' (User Poll by kronosposeidon)

dystopianfuturetoday says...

Hey videopeeps. I'm out of town for the week and haven't much time to sift. I'll be back next week.

KP, sounds like a good idea, but many of the best games aren't embeddable. Would it be beneficial to the site if we were to play desktop tower defense on VS as opposed to kongregate? Also, I accidentally voted no instead of yes. oops.

Here are a couple of ideas I've had for sometime, but they might not be practical.

-I'd love to have an audiosift, where we could exchange songs and playlists. If we were to do this, we'd want to suspend the self link rule, so that we would all have the ability to upload the kinds of eclectic and obscure music that you don't find on youtube. Is there another type of embeddable media format that would work better than flash videos?

-I'd also love to have an Obama progress report page, where we could list his activities and accomplishments in office, both good and bad, so that we could have a broad overview of how he spends his time in office. We'd have to be careful to use basic neutral wording so it doesn't become an adoration/hate page.

Who is your favorite long-lost sifter? (Sift Talk Post)

AnimalsForCrackers says...

Raven, Choggie, Rembar & Gluonium, karaidl (one effortlessly hilarious hombre), Woland, Pyrex, Theo, Eden, Silvercord, Firefly, and of course the infamous dude whose discussions...err..rants (along with Choggie's out-there postings) initially piqued my interest enough to lurk the Sift to see what it's all about before eventually joining, Snake Plissken. There are a few others of whom I can only recall by their neat avatars atm...sorry whoever you are, wherever you are. I wish I could remember how I first came across this place.

The lot of them are OK in my book; I know I sorta keep to myself but I've learned much (about myself and the wider world)from this eclectic group of people called Videosift...for that I'm thankful. Because the real world can be so homogenous sometimes.

Hypocrites... the whole lot of ya! (Wtf Talk Post)

I can appreciate choggs eclectic and unique vid posts and even some of his better articulated comments. But I wouldn't want him back here more for the endless stream of harassing personal profile messages he inundated me with and his general douchebaggery towards others on VS and pissing on the spirit of this place. The man has no tact nor class in my opinion. He asked for the ban, he got the ban. goodbye and good ridance. hopefully he'll use his vast knowledge and insight to grow from the experience.

Reps To Use Foreclosure List To Keep People From Voting

GeeSussFreeK says...

How many people who have had their homes forclosed will remember to change their voter registration?
This is just low as low gets and making excuses for it is unforgivable.

If you don't follow the rules don't expect to have them follow you back. This isn't a partisan argument at all, it is one of how to conduct something of this scale without massive fraud. With all this ACORN stuff happening lately, I don't see how people even have a problem with this.

How else can one assure that the person voting that day is indeed themselves except with very specific information like this, seriously. If you didn't follow procedure on changing your address on your eclectic bill when you moved, don't expect electricity either.
