How many black lives lost to rap music...mmm mmm mmm

East coast vs west coast

Teaching young black men to disrespect black women, disrespect cops.

If we could save one black life, wouldn't it be worth it? It's time to ban rap music!

Who's with me?!

Florida Beachgoers Oblivious of Large Hammerhead Shark

artician says...

On the US East Coast, and some other areas, that's actually being done nearly in the way you describe (but the inclusion of a local beach alarm is a great idea). Great Whites are quite frequent over there, and there are a lot of marine biologists who tag them for monitoring, mostly for migrating, preservation and research, but warn local authorities whenever one drifts into pedestrian-laden areas.

We need to start a program where we fit all sharks with a beacon of some kind and whenever they wander into swimming areas they are picked up by sensors and then a sound system on the beach starts playing the Jaws theme. That will get everyone out of the water in a jiffy.

Oakland CA Is So Scary Even Cops Want Nothing To Do With It

shagen454 says...

I live in West Oakland. Before I moved here all my friends told me it was inevitable that I was going to get shot and my apartment broken into.

That has not been true AT ALL. Not only that but I walk around the really really terrible "Lower Bottoms" *gasp* everyday, I'd say a good one hour of foot traffic up and down Lower-Bottoms and I have not seen anyone doing anything in the least bit threatening to anyone's property or man-flesh.

Oakland is actually FUCKING awesome. Yeah, like any city there are portions that are not so great. What was showcased here was a portion of East Oakland a little past Fruitvale BART station.

Yes, there are spots that are dangerous there but Oakland is a sprawled out city, is Oakland the Wild West? I'd venture to say it is somewhat but it certainly is not even close to as bad as people make it out to seem - especially compared to most cities on the East Coast.

Ah, I can see you have a FORT in mind. There is no FORT, really. The whole area is the Fort, the land itself. The "blocking fort" ARE the bunkers -- on top of the bluffs and at water level. There are two other forts in a triangular shape -- one on Whidbey Island and one on Marrowstone Island. The idea was if any boat came into the waters of Admiralty Inlet, one of the forts bunkers' big guns could take them out.

The bunkers are all still there. They were going to jackhammer them away, but they were made from imported Belgian concrete and they just would NOT break up.

So you can go crawling around in all sorts of bunkers. Some of the rooms have had their doors welded shut, for safety reasons. But there are plenty to explore.

These three forts aren't on an estuary, however. It is ocean water, but not the ocean. The Pacific Ocean stops about where the Northwest corner of the Olympic Peninsula is kind of south of Vancouver Island, in Canada. Things get narrow there, and the ocean waves can't reach. Or something. So there are bodies of water that ships and boats follow going east, then they turn south to Seattle, which is on the coast of Puget Sound.

It's all very confusing. I can never figure out which way is north. Port Townsend has water on three sides, fer pitys sake!

Oh, and they did remove the big guns, even as they left the bunkers. You can see where they were and get a good sense of how big those guns were.

None of the three forts ever shot in anger. Just practice.

Exactly! "Shop fronts" only.

So when are you coming to America? It is beautiful in my part of the country, albeit very young by European or even East Coast standards. We are very proud of our oldest building. I think it was built in 1875 or something. Maybe even later. Ha.

Was it just the location of the blocking fort in PT or the general construction of forts at the mouth of the estuary in the first place? And is there (supervised) access to the entire facility or are some parts, say munitions bunkers, still off limits?

An Officer and a Gentleman, I know that one. Looking at pictures of the fort, you can even recognize one or two locations. So they refurbished the sides the needed and left the rest untouched, like the shop fronts in Northern Ireland during last year's G8?

Death wish skiing (not actually snuff)

Trancecoach says...

This is kinda how I learned to ski. The east coast of the U.S. has some rather unforgiving conditions, at times, making me appreciate skiing in the west that much more.

Jon Stewart's Daily Show - Sebelius, Obamacare, Hearing

MilkmanDan says...

Sebelius was a pretty popular Democrat governor in Kansas, which is a bit of an oxymoron considering how solidly Red-State KS is. It is all just political grandstanding, but being from KS originally it makes me happy to see her do the very (IMHO) Kansas-type thing and refuse to pass the buck for the website snafus in her opening statement.

Especially when it becomes very clear that all the Republican questions were expecting her to fit their stereotype of what they think of as an "East-Coast Liberal" and spin, pass the buck, and shift blame at every opportunity.

Kansas has a track record with a lot of political epic fails (evolution in schools comes to mind), but one thing your average Kansan is usually pretty proud of is personal integrity and owning up to one's mistakes. Seems like Sebelius is a good representative of that quality that most Kansans would claim to hold dear.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Republican Shutdown Threats

Here's a bigger picture of mandatory " health insurance" , one that resembles another failed institution's successes and failures through extortion with the goal of diverting capitol to private coffers.

Fuck birth control, I don't feed myself as influenced by the corporate media machine's saturation diet of shit food but the majority of unhealthy, overweight, drones in sector EVERYWHERE do-The bulk of health care expenses in the U.S. are squandered on correcting or marginally forestalling the inevitable cascading failures associated with these poor diet habits fostered by the machine. The SAME machine owns the insurance companies, the medical establishment, down the fucking line.

Chicago 1921-1923- New York, Boston, hell pick a city on the east coast.
The mafia invented it, gangster fucks perfected it, it continues under the guise of the Affordable (fuck you, I have my own insurance) Care Act.

If people, were not such fucking imbeciles, they'd see through the simple veil of graft and extortion these suited, elected (joke) criminals use to continue to divert attention away from the obvious criminality of their ruse.

Get me started on eating healthy and the lack of availability and inaccessibility of the healthiest of raw materials...of how staple crops have been hijacked and genetically coded with ONE goal preeminent: To increase the profits of the monopolies that control the food supply.

The fastest way to fix the problem of affordable health care, is to fix the broken habits of dumb-ass humans who allow themselves to be bent-over and ass-fucked into thinking they need insurance AT ALL!

Teach people that their diets are being being systematically and fundamentally altered to keep them in this loop and the insurance companies and the cunts who make the laws that benefit them, will collapse under the weight of their own, orchestrated illusion.

New York to LA in 45 Minutes!!

artician says...

God wouldn't this be a dream come true? Even if it were as expensive as a flight (though would realistically be more so due to demand), I would pay this out in an instant to move from the East coast to see my family in California. Jesus. 45 minutes.

I'm just going to dream about that for a little while...

How it's made - Hot Dogs

chingalera says...

"In 2000, 160 children died from an obstruction of the respiratory tract. 17 kids in the US and Canada died from eating Asian Jello in 2001.

A call for redesign of the most dangerous foods is ridiculed by authorities such as Janet Riley, President of the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (it's a real organization), but Eugene D. Gagliardi Jr., the inventor of Steak umms, and popcorn chicken, is going to save the day again.

The result? A new hot dog that looks the same in the package, but has eight deep slits that open when cooked, causing it to break apart into small pieces when eaten.

It will be marketed soon on the East Coast."

My question is this: What does a penis pump have to do with toddlers choking on hot doggies?

I have don't know anything about this "Ohio" of which you speak, but I suspect it exists only in your imagination. Like Canada.

Chris Christie Unloads On Boehner And House GOP

chingalera says...

Surprised they didn't call up some reserve rednecks for another grip-n-grab for guns during the east coast's little wet-weather spell-Axe them folks down in Louisiana who got their shit stolen while thousands of others sat in a 5 by 5 spot in their own shit inside the Super dome waiting for some fresh water n such....

Bet the governor didn't get wet or have his firearms illegally confiscated either, nice rant, chubby!

OPT OUT!!

shagen454 says...

The Loose Change guys are really annoying. The sheriff was cool but opt out? I am rather glad there are fewer lunatics with guns on board my long flights back to the east coast, more than likely due to the scanners.

Guy finds a Wall spider in bathroom, finds a way to kill it

soulmonarch says...

Hey! I live in Spokane!

And seriously, if he thinks the spiders are large here, I hope he doesn't try moving anywhere further south. Or on the east coast. Or... you know, it'd probably be safer to just move to the moon.

20 States File Petitions To Secede From USA

chingalera says...

So many ways to mince up the map in the US to accommodate everyone. Hell, the west coast is already hemp-friendly and lush, freaks can live in Washorefornia.

Assholes, criminals, politicians-types can have Illinois,Wisconsin, Ohio, Iowa, Missouri, Michigan, Minnesota, and they can all live without guns, drugs, or a fucking clue.

Lesseeee, what new regime runs the east coast from Rhode Island to D.C. because no one south of the Carolinas wants anything to do with them northerners...

Folks from the E.U. can handle the idea..You can fit 5-11 tidy little nations within North America. Dial-in your way of life, restrict travel for assholes and douches between countries only(establish universal test for asshole/douche/shitbag, etc).
