Divers Discover Blob

Asmo says...

Going to go out on a limb here, big blob of fish semen/eggs from a mass spawning event...

https://www.rt.com/news/311103-divers-find-giant-blob/

Yup, squid eggs.

"Finally, a scientist from the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, Dr. Michael Vecchione, who saw the video, came up with a possible explanation of the underwater puzzle. Dr. Vecchione alleged that “the thing” is a huge squid egg mass, possibly the largest ever seen so far."

Sagemind, you are the first candidate for the biggest bukkake in history mate... ; )

Diver Finds $1 Million In Gold

LiquidDrift says...

I'm guessing this was quite a bit off the coast and they were searching for it, so the support boat above the diver knew exactly where it was when he found it.

Huge Great White Close Up

It depends on the environment, the shark, and the level of knowledge of the diver.

If you know the temperament of the shark, if you know there's a lot of food around (on a reef for instance), you're probably ok.

I was diving on a wreck in Australia years ago and came within 1m of a massive bull shark. No cages, just regular scuba. He swam right by me and I nearly crapped myself. Wasn't quite that big, but easily 3m. The divemaster with me knew this particular shark well (he told us we'd probably see him) and swam right up to him and blew a raspberry at him

The shark was just like "oh, these guys" and kept swimming. He could easily have torn us all (about 8 on the dive) to shreds, but he just wasn't interested. At which point, I remembered I had a camera and took a pretty crap photo as he swam off.

Over a decade later, it remains one of the highlights of my life, and the best dive I've ever done.

I think this should qualify as *EIA because if you're right, messing with a pregnant female that also happens to be one of the most dangerous apex predators in it's home environment is asking to be weeded out of the gene pool... = \

diving fail

Sniper007 says...

Alright, I read up on it a bit. Filipino divers with little training in this type of dive I guess? They actually looked pretty good until they hit the water, which made for some golden comedy. I was crying on my first viewing. I did look a little bit like they slipped or something when launching.

They are used to various types of synchronous diving.

Hopefully they can keep their spirits up through the sea of hate out there. This crap will make them rockstars over night if they play it right.

going with the flow

I said boring dive site, and I stand by it. Featureless, lifeless rock is not exactly my idea of an interesting dive site.

And taking a lungful from the cameraman's octopus would be a really bad idea.

If you're free diving, you don't inhale compressed air at depth unless it's an emergency, and you're going to resurface with the safety diver very slowly.

@Curious, the diver is Guillaume Néry. He's real and he's done this kinda thing before.

You guys must be kidding. That video was fantastic; boring dive my ass!

Also I figured that while it looks like free diving, but each shot is not really that long. Take another lungful from the cameraman's spare respirator and continue floating along. Doesn't take anything away from the producers, I just usually like to try to figure out "HOW IT'S MADE".
