Stephen Drives NASA's Mars Rover With Neil deGrasse Tyson

Ashenkase says...

Its a cute prototype that stretches the imagination but is a wholly improbable design to find its way to Mars.

The weight and dimensions alone would make it very, very difficult to de-orbit onto the surface of mars. This thing weighs: 5,500 lbs. (2,500 kilograms).

Its not going to be very economical to get it out of earths gravity and into orbit just to start, forget about the energy it will require to get it moving towards Mars.

We're the Last Humans Left...

BSR says...

Made me think of this.

Commander Leonard 'Bones' McCoy, M.D. : Spock, this "child" is about to wipe out every living thing on Earth. Now, what do you suggest we do? Spank it?

Commander Spock: It knows only that it needs, Commander. But, like so many of us... it does not know what.
---------------------

Commander Spock: V'Ger must evolve. Its knowledge has reached the limits of this universe and it must evolve. What it requires of its god, doctor, is the answer to its question, "Is there nothing more"?

Commander Leonard 'Bones' McCoy, M.D.: What more is there than the universe, Spock?

Commander Willard Decker: Other dimensions. Higher levels of being.

Commander Spock: The existence of which cannot be proven logically. Therefore, V'Ger is incapable of believing in them.

Captain James T. Kirk: What it needs in order to evolve... is a human quality. Our capacity to leap beyond logic.

Commander Willard Decker: And joining with its creator might accomplish that.

Commander Leonard 'Bones' McCoy, M.D.: You mean this machine wants to physically join with a human? Is that possible?

Commander Willard Decker: Let's find out.
----------------------------------

So, basically... V'ger needed to get laid?

String Theory Explained - What is The True Nature of Reality

2099 Opening Reboot

AeroMechanical says...

I'd be down with a Space 1999 reboot, but the fundamental premise of a nuclear explosion pushing the moon out of orbit and then somehow to another star system for a new episode each week is so ridiculous l it would have to be replaced, but by that point it's hardly a Space 1999 reboot. I guess you could have the same basic setup with a moon base but use wormholes or string magic or quantum whatever and that might be okay. A show taking place on a moon base that keeps jumping randomly through alternate dimensions could be kind of interesting for a while maybe. Like Sliders, except they take the moon base with them and have Eagles to fly around in.

Stranger Aliens

What an extraordinary phrase. Call me a party pooper on this one but extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. I for one have no faith in the quantum maths mumbo jumbo that says extra dimensions are possible.

Stranger Aliens

I still think about this a lot, lol. And I totally agree with his reference to extraterrestrials living on a different wavelength/dimension. And I always come back to what humanity has accomplished in such a short time period relative to the Universe itself.

There's no doubt that extra-dimensions exist that we have no clue about, so there could be existence beyond our capability to imagine in those dimensions. But, even more so - the Universe as we know it is chaotic in a way that it wouldn't be complicated to imagine advanced civilizations finding a way out of the "material" world somehow to find permanent safety. Which might mean transcending bodies into another form that can exist in one of these "realms". Humans are babies in the Universe - the impossible is possible.

What Happens When A Woman Abuses A Man In Public?

AeroMechanical says...

Fair enough, but these are separate issues, I agree with the premise of the video. But, while it would be a mistake to assume that men cannot be victims of abuse, it would also be a mistake to assume general equivalency. Take, Weinstein for example. Once he'd isolated his victims, they had to handle their situation with the added fear that he may physically overpower and rape them. With the gender roles reversed, the situation would in most cases not be the same. There is an extra dimension that needs to be considered resulting from the biological fact that men are bigger and stronger than women. I believe you do need to consider gender, even though it would be nice if you didn't.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Has A Blunt Message For Nazis

bobknight33 says...

If he did mention it he would add another dimension of condemnation to the Unit the White party.

I don't think he said his father rests in hell.

newtboy said:

Doesn't this make his statements more poignant and heartfelt, since he knows from a close familial context?
So then he just said his own father rests in hell, you retort ' But his daddy was a nazi'?
I fail to see the point of that beyond deflection. The sins of the father, especially once denounced, are not the sins of the son. Bad form, Bob.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Has A Blunt Message For Nazis

bobknight33 says...

Exactly.. But if he did mention it he would add another dimension of condemnation to the Unit the White party.

That being said I am glad you agree the sins of the father stops at the father.. You do agree to that correct? Lord help me if I'm wrong seeing how much of a leftest nut you are. Answer?

JustSaying said:

Bob, nobody gives a fuck about his dad.

Obsessive artists colorize old photos

Sagemind says...

Colorizing things is also a way tyo add to the historical moment of the photograph. Like the 7-up logo - what colours they used. Also, what dyes they used in materials, what colour people's eyes were, what colours were used in every day objects and so on.
It's another dimension to the photo and recording of that history.

We all love the dated look of old photos, but lets be honest - they didn't choose to loose that documented information on purpose, it was a limitation of the medium. Old photographs are not just art pieces. They documented pieces of history with missing information, why not update the information and tell a bigger story of the instant the photo was taken?

Trump pushes aside NATO ally and Preens for the camera

shagen454 says...

small (hands) man, big (ignorant) mouth. I mean, he's so much of a toddler I wonder if he still has to cry & suck on someone's tit in order to satiate his wondrously deflating inflated ego. Can someone pop that shit with a voodoo doll for good? I'd love to watch that live on TV, this guy just devolving into a bloody smelly mess puddle and being taken off to the most vicious Hell dimension possible to be taught some fucking lessons. lol

Quantum Mechanics (Now with Added Ducks) - exurb1a

AeroMechanical says...

I dunno about that. There's lots of scientific evidence for quantum mechanics. It was disagreement between experimental results and theory which lead to the development of quantum mechanics in the first place. There have definitely been repeatable experiments demonstrating quantum entanglement, for instance.

String Theory, now, that's where you've got your unprovable assumptions. Whereas quantum mechanics at least has a big "we don't know why this is" hole in the middle, the string theory guys would just posit the existence of a bunch more dimensions to make the equations work.

Not that I actually understand the mathematics of any of it, mind you.

Spacedog79 said:

Quantum physics makes extraordinary claims and at the same time asks us to lower our standards of scientific rigour by accepting unprovable assumptions. You can have one or the other but never both.

FEC case exposes paid actor Trump supporters

enoch says...

not surprising, and i would predict more of this..much more.

it is not that rare for public officials to create buzz,or solidify an image using paid people as backdrop.

marketers do it all the time, and american politics has simply become another dimension of the public relation/marketing departments.

RT -- Chris Hedges on Media, Russia and Intelligence

bcglorf says...

@enoch,

but you and i may disagree on some things, but i would like to think we have both earned each others respect.

Agreed.

I also share a similar sentiment in lamenting the lack of actual legitimate journalism. I've only got a handful of people out there that I feel I can actually trust to make an effort to present all sides and the most relevant/important facts when presenting a topic. The dogged determination of most media(independent and otherwise) to show nothing but a single dimension to an issue that fits their own bias is saddening.

Chomsky in particular is a real lose to me as he has rapidly declined from shining a light on America's mistakes into someone that solely, and exclusively documents why America is evil. Anything good or reasonable in it's actions is never touched on or quickly glossed over, the corresponding evils and ills of any and all other parties is similarly ignored. The lone exception being those allied to America in which case their evil once again are documented.

I've lost patience with that kind of single mindedness and call it out as what it is, propaganda.
