OMG!
Texas passed an anti communist law, Texas government code 557.021, which defines a communist as “ a person who commits an act reasonably calculated to further the overthrow of the government” and bans them from appearing on the ballot.
That is the entire Republican Party who put secession as part of their platform, tried to overthrow the government on Jan 6, etc. Get ready for deep blue Texas. 😂

Trump didn't do anything wrong

newtboy says...

Lol. Such ignorant delusional cultists you are. When given proof of A,B,C - X, Y, Z…to paraphrase your answer…” None of that matters, Trump is perfect and honest and you’re just a jealous hater.” Thanks for proving my point. 🤦‍♂️

Lots of Russian involvement found. No definitive proof of a conspiracy directly between Trump personally and the Russian government (but absolutely proof of illegal conspiracies with many in his campaign and administration and Russia, with many prosecutions and convictions)…largely because he obstructed the investigation at every turn, refused to provide witnesses or evidence that was subpoenaed, refused to testify, answered all in writing questions with “I don’t recall”, and used the DOJ as a shield instead of a separate independent non political part of the justice system. All this was then lied about by Barr, Republicans didn’t read the report, just took Barr’s lies as truth and refused to see the crimes in front of them….too busy focused on Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi. Barr’s since admitted he intentionally misled congress and the public and publicly apologized for it. You got duped.

Impeached twice buddy. The trials were both thrown by McConnel without jeopardy ever being attached, he didn’t examine evidence or listen to witnesses, he acted as Trump’s defense instead of doing his job, prosecutor and jurist.

Then Trump tried to overthrow the government of the US on Jan 6, we know you hate to hear it but he did….it WAS wild, his proud boys finally got to stop “standing by” and acted for him, and you try to blame BLM and ANTIFA despite every arrest being a long time Trumpster….ALL patriotic Americans care and want EVERY perpetrator arrested and charged, it’s just getting started….and again was protected by McConnel who refused to hear a case before he was out of office, then claimed you can’t try him or even investigate, he’s out of office (and they won’t have any investigations because they can’t have their direct involvement become public knowledge before the next election or the country goes deep deep blue next year).
(Side note, Pence thought Trump tried to kidnap him on that day. When led to a secure area by his own security force, he refused to get in the armored limo Trump sent to evacuate him, telling his security chief that (paraphrasing) ‘I trust you, but if I get in that limo, you won’t be with me, and I certainly don’t trust Trump’s security team or driver right now.’ He then stayed in the secure area with his personal security team.)

We know you don’t recall any of that…or just deny it as fake news because it’s unflattering for Bunker baby, the Cowardly Liar, but it all happened, the records are clear no matter how much you deny the most criminal president ever facing uncountable prosecutions for his innumerable crimes with the most convictions in his administration in history ever did a thing wrong….including having a child with his daughter, idolizing Hitler, siding with racists, white nationalists, and fascists, and trying to follow the Nazi plan to seize power by blaming his failed coup, the attack on Congress on Jan 6, on his political enemies to outrage his base and outlaw his enemies. Like a good little brown shirt you supported every single bold faced and obvious lie without question.

Trump did nothing right. FTFY.

Edit: lol…and the universe provides again. Trump just lambasted his own “best people” as garbage stars, stars he personally created out of garbage with no talent, intelligence, knowledge, or loyalty to anything. One more thing he got wrong.

A Killer whale uses a bait fish to hunt a BIRD!

lucky760 says...

I wholly disagree with that sentiment. They would be better off free in the ocean. We don't need to keep an eye on them. They aren't like great white sharks randomly swimming along the shore taking bites out of people. No. They're too smart for something so lowest-common-denominator as that. Yes, they're called "killer" whales for a reason, but you have nothing to fear from releasing them from captivity and enjoying all that the deep blue sea has to offer those beautiful creatures. Speaking of beautiful, I wonder if they share any relationship with panda bears, genetically speaking. They're very different except for the whole black and white thing. And what gives with that whole look anyway? Yes, it's badass and cute, but how does that fit into the whole natural selection deal? How does being black and white make you fitter? Hmm.

Did you ever see Free Willy? You couldn't have. Anyone who's seen that would never endorse keeping these beautiful, intelligent creatures in a cage, much less doing it just to "keep an eye on them." FOR shame!

Huge Great White Close Up

Reservoir No. 2 - Shade Balls

bremnet says...

If these are polyethylene or polypropylene, they are both highly hydrophobic in their pure form and water will not wet the surface of these materials. Given their color these are obviously not from pure polyolefin streams, so could perhaps be more hydrophilic, but it's very hard to get a PE or PP substrate to totally wet out even with high loadings of traditional fillers and reinforcements. Some folks have asked why they are black... which is indeed odd and perhaps not conducive to minimizing evaporation... and I can only imagine that the source of the polymer used to make these could be a scrap stream as they would be wanting to keep costs low, and in comingled streams the ultimate color is often dark - black, deep blue, browns etc. - when the stream is extruded and pelletized. If money was no object and they had to go with balls, then black would likely be the last choice, not the first (white - well loaded with inexpensive TiO2, or in some future universe... reflective silver!) Have fun.

AeroMechanical said:

I assume this has all been thought out and tested, but I'm imagining these balls with a thin coating of water adhering to their surfaces, which quickly evaporates as the black balls heat in the sunlight and then turning over to replenish their coating and repeating the process forever possibly making things worse.

Let's Play 'Is it Racist'?!

chingalera says...

Agreed, Payback. The shell-shock of newsspeak and race-baiting, media manipulation and fear-mongering caused this woman to go into shock while in the presence of a black man, probably because she lives insulated from their culture in some all-white sanctuary. She's no more developmentally-disabled that 85-90% of the entire Population of America.

Part of her initial association-reaction may have come from having seen zombie after zombie in film with dirt all over their faces or that deep-blue hue of necrotic flesh.

OR, her 1st zombie film (like mine) was George Romero's Dawn of the Dead, in which the first zombie of the film to take a heinous bite out of that persons shoulder, was a blackman zombie with a giant afro. That shit fucked me UP when I was 12!
I will never forget that brother....best zombie film still, ever made.

To cry "racist" from the utterance of one word is quite a stretch and usually denotes a lack of critical thinking capability of the user. Racism is a convenient label for assholes who think their shit does not stink, ESPECIALLY coming from an American.
Not accusing you of being an American or an asshole Gunter, but that kind of quip reminds me of the type of shit dick-berries from UC Berkeley would say, the ones who can find racism in a bowl of clam chowder.

Michio Kaku: The Future of Quantum Computing

jonny says...

I've done a fair bit of work in AI, mostly genetic programming and evolutionary computing. The popular conception that if we just had more processing power we could create a truly intelligent machine is, well, nonsense. The machine still needs some code to run. The problem for AI isn't one of computational power, it's a problem of representation. (The history of Deep Blue is an excellent example of this.)

I'm not suggesting that more computational power won't help - quite the opposite. But it doesn't solve anything on its own. As Michio notes, machines can already see and hear better than humans, but they have no understanding. That understanding can only occur with good information representation. I personally think evolutionary techniques are probably the quickest path to get there, but then, the coders will be no more aware of the machine's internal representations than neuroscientists are of humans' internal representations today. Whether that understanding is important is something of a philosophical question.

Thats amazing, I too would love to get into that. That music is by Brian Eno? I thought that was in Trainspotting.

Yeah it's called deep blue day. Wonder if they're hard to fly? He seems to be able to pan the camera (and tilt?) independent of the copter..

Share what you find out stormsinger!>> ^Stormsinger:

Wow! This is -so- much better than the RC planes we used to fly. I might have to look into the costs of a setup like this.

Huh? Didn't they do this movie a few years ago? Wasn't it called Deep Blue Sea?

No you don't understand. Deep Blue Sea was in a RESEARCH facility in the middle of the OCEAN. This takes place in a supermarket after a storm/tsunami/weird unexplainable weather event forced water into a supermarket where people are unable to get out and must make their way out of this building before they are eaten.

NOVA Episode: Smartest Machine on Earth

RFlagg says...

While they mentioned Chess, there was no mention of the Computer Go problem, that is, getting a computer to be able to play Go beyond the level of studied amateur. Still a great episode of Nova as usual. I would love to see IBM tackle that next since that would solve a few more key issues like visual/spacial issues, then combine wherever they are with the Deep Blue and their goals of the Watson program with whatever they would call their Go computer and you would have a fairly nice AI system.
I wonder why they didn't plug in speech recognition so it could hear the answers... of course at the same time a real Jeopardy player may buzz in before he finishes so I guess it needs to be able to see the answer at the same time...

Taylor Mali's masterly reading of Kinnell's "The Waking"

calvados says...

"The Waking", Galway Kinnell

What just just happened between the lovers,
who lie now in love-sleep under the owls' calls,
call, answer, back and forth, and so on,
until one, calling faster, overtakes the other
and the two whoo together in one
shimmering harmonic -- is called "lovemaking."
Lovers who come exalted to their trysts,
who approach from opposite directions
along a path by the sea, through the pines,
meet, embrace, go up from the sea,
lie crushed into each other under
the sky half golden, half deep-blueing
the moon and stars into shining, know
they don't "make" love, but are earth-creatures
who live and -- here maybe no other word will do --
fuck one another forever if possible across the stars.
An ancient word, formed perhaps before
the sacred and profane had split apart,
when the tongue was like the flame of the heart
in the mouth, and lighted each word
as it was spoken, to remind it
to remember, as when flamingos
change feeding places on a marsh,
and there is a moment, after the first to fly
puts its head into the water in the new place
and before in the old place the last to fly
lifts out its head to see the rest have flown,
when, scattered with pink bodies, the sky
is one vast remembering. They still hear,
in sleep, the steady crushing and uncrushing
of bedsprings; they imagine a sonata in which
violins' lines draw the writhing and shiftings.
They lie with heads touching, thinking
themselves back across the blackness.
When dawn touches the bed their bodies re-form,
heaps of golden matter sieved
out of the night. The bed, caressed threadbare,
worn almost away, is now more than ever
the place where such light as humans
shine with seeps up into us. The eyelids,
which love the eyes and lie on them to sleep,
open. This is a bed. That is a fireplace.
That is last morning's breakfast tray
which nobody has yet bothered to take away.
This face, too alive with feeling to survive past
the world in which it is said, "Ni vous
san moi, ni moi san vous," so unguarded
this day might be breaking in the Middle Ages,
in the illusion fateful randomness chooses
to beam into existence, now, on this pillow.
In a ray of sun the lovers see motes cross,
mingle, collide, lose their way, in this puff
of ecstatic dust. Tears overfill their eyes,
wet their faces, drain quickly away
into their smiles. One leg hangs off the bed.
He is still inside her. His big toe
sticks into the pot of strawberry jam. "Oh migod!"
They kiss while laughing and hit teeth
and remember they are bones and laugh
naturally again. The feeling, perhaps
it is only a feeling, perhaps mostly due
to living only in the overlapping lifetimes
of dying things, that time starts up,
comes over them. They get up, put on clothes,
go out. They are not in the street yet,
however, but for a few minutes longer,
still in their elsewhere, beside a river,
with their arms around each other, in the aura
earth has when it remembers its former beauty.
An ambulance sirens a bandage-stiffened
body towards St. Vincent's. A police car
running red lights parodies
in high pitch the owls of paradise. The lovers
enter the ordinary day the ordinary world
providentially provides. Their pockets ring.
Good. For now askers and beggarmen
come up to them needing change for breakfast.
