I Will Survive: Dancing Auschwitz

Controversy Over Girls Doing Beyonce Dance (Video)

moodonia says...

You need to dance a jig or a set dance with a girl to see the attraction, its very physical, lots of bodily contact, great fun, and if all goes well, drunk and sweaty

Keep in mind the solo jig predates the Bra, so it had more going for it back in the day... and the arms were used too. I dont like that stiff backed arms rigid kind of style.

But not all dances are mating rituals. I have a very difficult time finding this sexy, for example. It's hard to believe anyone finds a jig arousing.

Many cultures have war dances in their history and animals also dance to settle territory disputes without violence.

It's been around since life began in my observation so how did it start? Well even animals dance right? Why do they do it? Because spring has hit and its time to procreate. >> ^xxovercastxx:
You are from Salt Lake City, I presume?
>> ^ctrlaltbleach:
Dancing is provocative to begin with, the whole point of dancing is to attract the opposite sex.

No LOL I'm from Texas. Besides that I'm really not very religious and I'm not saying dancing is proven to be provocative just my own opinion for why we do it. It's been around since life began in my observation so how did it start? Well even animals dance right? Why do they do it? Because spring has hit and its time to procreate. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with dancing at all its just a courtship ritual in the primitive form. I love the old Lindie Hop myself some dancing is more provocative than others. Why must they be doing a dance thats a directly mimics sex? Also girls are objectified anyway in life why make it worse? Or start it at such an early age. I don't know maybe I'm backwards on this subject but thats the way I look at it. Oh and I'm not 70 either I'm 30.

Excellent choreography and execution.
Were they dressed skimpy? Maybe to some, whose thoughts automatically go in that direction, but I didn't see it. I was captivated by the performance.
And if this is too skimpy, then you better shut down the beaches, as I guarantee their swimsuits are more revealing than these costumes.

I agree. The choreography was very good, and those girls hit their marks. That's no easy feat (feet?).

Actually, for little kids not even in the double-digits, they did a damn good job.

And it's a show. If they were dressing like that for school, or heading to the playground in the park, then maybe I'd be a bit more alarmed...but we can't inundate our culture with sexuality and provocativeness and expect the kids to pretend that it doesn't exist.

They don't think that they are doing anything "bad" by dancing like that; they're just doing it in a way similar to the way they've seen it done by Britney and Christina, et al.

Dude you should of made a scene that would have been gold. I am in a total agreement with you, can't for the life of me understand why people want there little girls to grow up so fast by subjecting them to the adult world so early.
In reply to this comment by KnivesOut:
I was forced to sit through a FOUR HOUR dance recital not long ago, since my niece (who was 6 at the time) was participating. She had a total of about 4 minutes of dancing, and the rest was watching other peoples kids dance. The variety of performances was all over the map, ballet, tap, modern (like the video above), clogging, etc.

Let me tell you, people seem to have no problem with dressing their daughters up like tramps to perform suggestive dances in front of crowds.

I just don't get it. It was very uncomfortable. Here I am, a grown man, I know my boundaries, and yet here's a situation where they are apparently consciously tempting you over that line. It was very awkward. Thankfully, my wife (who was just as uncomfortable about the ordeal) has vowed to never let my sister-in-law guilt us into attending another.

OK Go - Rube Goldberg Machine Version of This Too Shall Pass

utterfrivolity says...

According to Damian, there is one edit: "We did actually shoot it in long, single takes. We only made it all the way through three times. But the truth is, one part, where we come down a waterfall, the action got a little behind, and three times, we actually got all the way through, the camera guy only got it once," Kulash explained. "So there is a bit of an edit in there. One edit. The machine did run all the way through each time, though, which is important."

Sarzy's comment that this feels "cynical and soulless" makes me sad. Obviously the band is trying to make viral videos, but that's been true since they recorded their first dance video and handed it out to some fans at concerts a number of years ago now. It wasn't cynical then, and it's not cynical now; it's just good marketing.

Kanye Insults Taylor Swift at VMAs

daxgaz says...

i am so separated from the culture that cares about this that i find the indecent hilarious.

from my very outsider perspective i see it like this:
Beyonce is beautiful lady and it was a nice old fashion song and dance video, so good for her.
Taylor Swift is a cute kid that summed up nearly every teen romantic comedy in a short video, so good for her too.
Kanye seems to be some melodramatic attention whore kid with a hedge row maze for a hair cut. So he's a dick, but predictable, yawn.

this hub-bub reminds me of another controversy recently that i found myself asking "what the fuck is a T-pain?"

Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson - Scream

eric3579 says...

The music video for "Scream", directed by Mark Romanek and production designer Tom Foden, is one of Jackson's most critically acclaimed. In 1995, it gained 11 MTV Video Music Award Nominations — more than any other music video — and won "Best Dance Video", "Best Choreography", and "Best Art Direction". The song and its accompanying video are a response to the backlash Jackson received from the media after being accused of child molestation in 1993. A year later, it won a Grammy for Best Music Video, Short Form; shortly afterward Guinness World Records listed it as the most expensive music video ever made at a cost of $7 million. -Wikipedia
