maybe call it just the "noir" channel? ...of which i am a fan.

In reply to this comment by kronosposeidon:
Actually I was considering a "Dark" channel. By "Dark" I mean stuff that is moody, or film-noirish, or dark humor, or even non-fictional stuff that makes you feel cynical about the world (example).

I'd love to see a Trippy Channel (vids to watch high) or a weird Channel (avant-garde, dark, dada and general strangeness).

You're probably right, but I don't want it to go to hell when I'm not paying attention. I don't want some idiot posting Scooby-Doo videos with a "Dark" tag simply because most of the action happens at night time. But I'll think about it.

I like it. I wasn't under the impression that maintaining a channel was all that much work. I think you just basically peak at it for a minute or two each day to make sure the content doesn't suck.

Okay, I guess that settles it. I'm going with the Mentos channel.

Not Today Motherfucker!

dystopianfuturetoday says...

Dada or Dadaism [French, from dada, child's word for a horse] Nihilistic movement in the arts that flourished chiefly in France, Switzerland, and Germany from about 1916 to about 1920 [and later -ed.] and that was based on the principles of deliberate irrationality, anarchy, and cynicism and the rejection of laws of beauty and social organization.

The ABC's of Dada

bluecliff says...

“Dada means nothing. We want to change the world with nothing.”

"Dada is the sun, Dada is the egg. Dada is the Police of the Police."

“Leave everything. Leave Dada. Leave your wife. Leave your mistress. Leave your hopes and fears. Leave your children in the woods. Leave the substance for the shadow. Leave your easy life, leave what you are given for the future. Set off on the roads.”

"My aim is to be understood by everyone. I reject the 'depth' that people demand nowadays, into which you can never descend without a diving bell crammed with cabbalistic bullshit and intellectual metaphysics. This expressionistic anarchy has got to stop..."

Hi Lisa,

I know what you mean about how the real thing sometimes doesn't stack up to its reputation/image. I saw your reply in the Bladerunner-Opening thread. Are you sure it's Tricky's Aftermath? I listened to a sample of it on Amazon, and it's not the song I remember.

Yes, that's it, Kelly. (http://www.moma.org/collection/browse_results.php?object_id=80997) I saw it in London when I was on a college trip in the late '70s. It was in the big "Dada and Surrealist Reviewed" show at the Hayward Gallery along with Duchamps urinal, 'natch! It's like when you see celebrities in person and they seem really small and norma l It's kind of ratty looking. You can see where the skin and the glue used has yellowed and dried...hey, it happens to all of us right? Haven't been to the new, improved MoMA yet, I'm more apt to be outside on the street selling my own art, but it's free on Fridays from 4-8pm so there's no excuses!

I love your avatar, and pomegranates, and am intrigued by what eden wrote. I need to look that up!

Hi Lisa,

I was trying to remember where I saw your avatar pic before. I just found it in an old art book. Is it Meret Oppenheim's 'Object' at The Museum of Modern Art, NY? Is it still at the museum? Is it a photo, or an actual object? (haven't been there yet..)

You know IMHO I think the whole 'arts' label is crutching the LEMUR's possibility into breaking mainstream radio play

How about posting this into ARTS? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eo0H8ztju78, it's the premiere of all-robotic version of George Antheil's infamous Dada piece for 16 player pianos and percussion orchestra which is far more Art then the lovely obscure techno beats of the video I sifted! thankyouverymuchandhaveniceday!

General Idi Amin Dada: A Self Portrait - Amazing 1970s Film

gwaan says...

The real thing - much scarier than Forest Whitaker in 'The Last King of Scotland' (although Forest is superb and deserves an Oscar!):

In 1971, the small African nation of Uganda was taken over by self-styled dictator General Idi Amin Dada, beginning an eight-year reign of terror that would result in the deaths of hundreds of thousands. Released in 1976, in this chilling yet darkly comic documentary, director Barbet Schroeder turns his cameras on the infamous tyrant, revealing the dynamic, charming, and appallingly dangerous man whose fanatical neuroses held an entire nation in their grip. Made with the full support and participation of the infamous dictator, General Idi Amin Dada provides a candid and disturbing portrait of one of the 20th century’s most notorious figures.
