Time for a new Sifter? (Sift Talk Post)

TF2 Frag Movie :: Auto-Aim ::

legacy0100 says...

So, are they actually using AutoAim or is it just their clan name?

You need a goddamn supercomputer to pull off some of those shots... has to be absolutely no lag in your part of the game.

And I believe this particular server they are playing in is heavily modded. One indication of it is that you'd get 100% strength on snipe shots at instant you zoom in.

Second indication comes from the fact that trick jumps are possible in here, I would assume they're using old CSS physics engine settings somehow... And I wouldn't be surprised if they touched up on hitboxs to be as big as the old CS models as well.

Basically: this server is allowing all the old tricks from original CS.

Very fishy video. But upvote anyways just because it's TF2.

Just playing, that shit wasn't funny. I just wanted to see if I could fuck up your CSS.
I will rape your nieces, too. Don't trust me nor my penis.

I take big dumps.

Have you ever heard of the game, "Don't misuse Cross Post". It's simple, but fun when played right. By the way you lose.

Sweet! I forget how much control we have on account settings. I'm not going near that CSS shit, though.

In reply to this comment by lucky760:
You should still be able to set it in your account preferences. Is the field gone from the charter page for you?

Basically on 3/11 any user data that was modified in the previous 1.5 years was lost, so if you first set your subdomain during that time, that's why it vanished.

Try setting it again in account prefs and let me know if you have any trouble.

In reply to this comment by schmawy:
Hey Lucky, did we lose our "Personal subdomain for your member profile, e.g., siftbot.videosift.com" during the Siftpocalypse? Will they be restored? I understand if it's an expense issue, but it was kinda cool and convenient for resetting the domain by swinging by one's profile instead of having to click "videosift home".

How to Customize Your Shiny New Channel & Comments (Howto Talk Post)

Fjnbk says...

Go to "Manage Channel."
Open your current CSS file.
Find the HTML color list on Wikipedia.
Tinker around until you get it right.

If you'll look at my channel, its design is clearly the work of an amateur. If you want it to look better, you'll have to learn CSS or outsource the duties to someone else.

VideoSift Fundraiser (Sift Talk Post)

campionidelmondo says...

As crazy as the idea of shutting off the site to non-members is, I think MINK is just trying to brainstorm ways of saving this site, so I think it's not fair to shoot him down like this.

As far as opening the financial books of VideoSift.com goes...I don't really care about it. I'm sure other hosting options are being considered and weighted. Switching the host is not a decision that is to be taken lightly anyways. But the idea in itself is not that crazy (again, I'm not in favor of it). Non-profit organizations that accept donations (like Goodwill) do have to open their books to the public, at least they do have to in many countries. But again, I'm not interested in the details of that.

What I would be interested in is the system this site is built upon, namely VaroCMS. If this site was built upon a well-known system, such as Wordpress, Joomla, etc etc I could rest assured that it operates very efficiently, without a lot of bandwidth or server power going to waste. With the closed-source system VaroCMS I'm not so sure.

Here's a small example of what I'm talking about: I just visited 5 user profiles, all of them charter members. None of them has a custom CSS in use, but for each individual profile I visited, a new .css file was cached locally. Ok it's only 10kb per .css file, but stuff like this keeps adding up. Waste is a thief...

I'm not trying to pin lucky to the wall. Building a complete CMS from scratch by oneself(?) is such a ginormous task that I shudder at the mere thought of it. That's why I wouldn't have considered doing that for a site like this in the first place. The question now is how can the site's system be optimized to save even the last drop of bandwidth and servertime? Again, with a closed source system like this it's all in lucky's hands and that's alot of work he's not getting paid for.

Thanks xxovercastxx! (Blog Entry by campionidelmondo)

Yep, won't work thru CSS. I've been using a tiny lil GreaseMonkey script to replace the images. I've uploaded it here in case someone might be interested.

The downside is that dynamically displayed content such as the comment preview box will not be affected by it. Maybe this alternative icon set could be built into the site as a preference choice. The icons sure deserve it ;-)

OCD struck and I couldn't help myself... I just dug up my copy of these graphics and rounded out the gems to a total of 4 (moving diamond up to 1000 and filling 750 with sapphire. Figured I could slap together a Stylish script in a few seconds. Then I found out the icons aren't controlled with CSS.

There goes that idea.

Actual donations can be found on the support page, but donating power points? Hmm... I guess you just have to use them! Thanks and cheers.

damn, you're on the ball. where do i donate power points?

All fixed. Yeah comedy central is adding some funky css to their embeds lately. I put in a fix to hopefully correct it, but we'll have to wait and see.

Thanks for reporting.

Wanted to give you a heads up on this. it seems that the player from their site maybe causing padding issues or something with links under the video. not sure if it's on all of the videos from comedy central or just this one.

Money Stuff (Blog Entry by dag)

mauz15 says...

1. Make the support link(s) more attention grabbing. The support, donate and buy powerpoints links are too subtle in my opinion. Maybe a new user notices, I don't know but I completely forgot where that support link was if it wasn't for this blog entry.

2. Like many have said, offer a simpler (lighter) charter option. And/or offer more benefits. Those 'benefits' have never interested me, and I don't think I am the only one.

"* Absolutely no ads
* Personal Blog
* Six (6) concurrent submission slots in the unsifted queue
* Two (2) Power Points per recharge period
* Personal subdomain for your member profile, e.g., siftbot.videosift.com
* Personalized colorizing for your username text and comment background
* Fully customizable CSS styling for your member profile
* Participation in the Sift Lounge chat room"

For instance, if I wanted a blog, I would go to a site specialized in blogs. The sift blog as it is, seems too simple I think.

What if besides being able to have 6 submissions you can also have the option of converting number of submissions available to time in the queue? For instance, if I want a a video to last 4 days in queue instead of 2 then I sacrifice 2 or 3 of my available submissions in order to extend the time for that particular video.

My point is, some of us don't care for a colored username, access to a chat, a simplistic blog, a subdomain or a custom CSS. A custom CSS sounds nice but if you dont know CSS then you won't care. Could you offer a more customizable profile, w/o necessarily having to know CSS? or maybe offer more themes for charter members besides dark and nublu....

I don't know, just brainstorming.

Charging people for just joining will drive people away.
