Narcissists and SOCIAL MEDIA

Khufu says...

If you see the behind-the-scene filming of your favourite movie or tv show it looks a bit cringy too. but it's what you see onscreen that is the subject to be judged.. I think these people are trying to do things that mimic what they see pro models/actors/musicians do in videos/photos. and it works, they try all sorts of angles and find a good shot then post it and it makes people think they are awesome and are worth following/listening too.. then they plug products and get paid. no big deal.. just the tech has gotten cheap for consumers and distribution is simple.

Working from Home | Real Time with Bill Maher

visionep says...

It's really interesting to see comedians do these performances without an audience. John Oliver and Steven Colbert's first attempts at this from home were a little cringy because they were still pausing for applause. Bill probably watched his and decided he needed to add in the audience afterward because without it, the practiced pauses from comedians are hard to watch. John and Steven stopped the pauses after a little practice.

I also noticed Bill looking around while talking. During a real performance you expect they are reading the faces of their audience, but in this case he was just looking at the back of his house. It shows you how much of this type of performance is automatic for these guys.

Ricky Gervais With Charlie Rose on Derek

alien_concept says...

No, it is nothing like The Office. There is no awkwardness at all. It is just happy and funny with a healthy dose of pathos. I highly recommend it if you're feeling a bit low, because whenever I have watched it, I spend hours after in a state of contentment

And I completely get you about the physical pain you feel when you are faced with cringy comedy. When something does make me cringe, I feel daunted and unhappy and it doesn't matter how funny it might be, I can't watch!

I couldn't watch the Office because the awkward literally hurts me. I have to watch Louie with a friend or I turn it off, I'm a big baby. So is Derek is really worth checking out, or is it more of the Office painful everything?

Heckler demands the mic. Gets it. Gets schooled.

Wow, he was excellent... the comedian, not the heckler. Just wonderfully played sir, and funny to boot. I was ready for it to be all cringy, but instead it was just funny. He wasn't mean to the heckler, he kept it civil (even when the heckler didn't), and made it funny.

Bravo sir, bravo

INDICA - In Passing ( Pretty Finnish girls )

Yeah, you got me with the 'Pretty Finnish Girls' and I agree - no vote though, their music kinda sounds like slightly cringy end of movie credits music. Not my taste

Well the music is alright, the girls are pretty, no doubt LOL

Britain's Got Talent - Diversity (Dance Act)

^ I like it when they're good ya know, but I honestly can't handle the cringiness of these things. The only reason I don't walk out of the room is because it's quite enjoyable shouting at morons and the stupid judges and complaining about all the obvious contrived bullshit these programmes are all about. But I would never switch it on myself

This is actually quite a fascinating insight as to these two's hang ups.

He is obviously a bit homophobic, as the mention of the word penis or pictures of penises disgust him (I found the pictures of the penises hilarious). She shows how out of touch she is with not even knowing what a blowjob is.

They both have a hard time getting past the language.

It's a generational gap at its finest.

Myself... I only just watched the film yesterday and found it to be almost unbearably cringy at times just through sheer embarrassment, but then hilarious in other parts.

And overall it is like his other films, it's sweet at its core, a real John Hughes of today.

The Office: Screensaver scene

I originally thought that the American version of the Office had taken all that was good and cringy about the UK one and turned it to crap... but I have to say I've seen some pretty good clips from it. This was funny... very good
