Mom Tries to Kill Kids, Self, Before 'Tribulation' Comes

campionidelmondo says...

Crazy people often do more violent things than eat skittles. I don't see the connection between her crazy actions and religion. Linking this to religion is just like linking school shootings to violent video games. No, nothing that's being mass consumed drove this person from being the nice neighbour to slaughtering people. Stop looking for the fault in the things you don't like and accept the fact that some people are just crazy.

Um, she wouldn't have tried to kill herself and her children if it weren't for her crazy religious beliefs.

If she was crazy - but only believed that skittles are dangerous and must devoured on sight - her kids would be fine & she'd only have diabeetus. [instead of prison]

For good people to behave insanely requires religion.

Don't you rather mean: "For crazy people to act crazy requires nothing at all"?

Here's an experiment: Is this funny/ok? If so, what makes it different?

I was going to say satire, but around the time they pull up their little map--I think they crossed that line. At the beginning it was semi-OK mostly due to them making the joke about the actual phrase, with no actual target except the word president. But, when it changed over into an area where it could be equivocated with a sitting president (just a bit before the map; it may have been the one with the mortar), that is where I think it's needs to stop. They say it's legal though.

I think crazy people often don't understand satire. However, the crazy people that might do this are probably never going to watch, "The Whitest Kids You Know". They defiantly walk a fine line; I think it's better to probably not do that skit. To each to his own.

I think the setting really defines where it shouldn't be used. A comedy club, maybe. A political event, no.

I do like when crazy people make me laugh. What does this person do, lie all day to cameras then go home and justify drinking a bit of water in the shower ? oh there ya go, " sips tea"....fruit ball.

Powell: The Problem With Politics

@NetRunner
Definitely. How could having rabid culture warriors yelling bloody murder in your ear on a 24 hour news cycle negatively impact proactive political compromises?

Obviously that's not helping, but it seems a bit convenient to me that the media outlets the elites own spew rhetoric that then become the justification for the elites closing off avenues by which the public can hold them accountable.

Maybe we should take away Congress's ability to consume mass media instead. Cable news apparently makes them into crazy people.

I'll tell you what we learned. We learned that crazy people do crazy shit sometimes. The end. Fade out. Roll credits.

Right, because it's definitely not an opportunity to stop and reflect on whether the kinds of crazy things we say are too much, because we know the only time we should ever dial it back a notch is when there's incontrovertible proof that rhetoric got someone killed.

I am not calling for Palins head, nor anyone else's. The fact is though that while there are crazy people in this world, and crazy people will always do crazy things, public speeches encouraging revolution and violence (even if it is indirectly) create an environment in which these people have a much easier time rationalizing such things. Even non-crazy people who are just fed up and getting angrier and angrier at what they are being told repeatedly is the tyrannical takeover of their country will eventually reach the point where violent lashing out seems the only alternative.
This doesnt mean everything has to become all "PC" or whatever, thats just another swing in the extremist direction.

And I'm not saying words have zero effect, I'm saying "they're just words!"

A lot of people here seem dangerously close to arguing for large scale censorship, particularly when it comes to those other people who are always wrong.

I'd expect a phrase like "society failed this man" would resonate with a bunch of liberals and, instead, you all go off hunting the arctic dodo.
Ultimately, I'm not so gung-ho on following the blame trail. Jared Lee Loughner did this and Palin is no more responsible for his actions than John Romero and Marilyn Manson are for the actions of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold.
Palin makes a lot of comments in poor taste (not to mention poor grammar, poor spelling, and poor intelligence) but it's not possible to speak in a way that's guaranteed not to set off someone who is completely detached from reality.
Calling for Palin's head is the same sort of fear-mongering the Republicans are making a living off of right now and all you hypocrites don't seem to agree a whole lot with them when they do it.

the story here is that when people dont have health care, that includes mental health, that which results is the domestic terrorism that kills many Americans... gun laws and politicians don't kill, crazy people do.

Palin's crosshair and gun rhetoric is completely tasteless, regardless of what happened. However it's not the reason why this happened. You'd have more luck looking at the guy's upbringing and psyche. Crazy people have always existed, and will always exist. There's no grand reason, political or other, behind this tragic event.

I agree with this. However I would point out what most sane people are saying, Palin isn't smart and shouldn't be listened to. She is a truly pointless human being, that should be ignored.

Welcome to China! Please enjoy your ride! :)

uberzip says...

Yup, that's Tianjin. Even though its the 3rd or 4th biggest city in China it's still considered a bit "country" so yea the driving is pretty crazy compared to Beijing (which still has plenty of craziness). Even though they don't drive as fast there the cars do drive plenty fast on the freeway and you see plenty of accidents there. However, because it is so crazy people are typically on the look out and will go around you if you are going the wrong way or walking across the street. The worst thing that you can't see from this video is that the cab drivers don't let you wear seat belts. Seeing as they are never used you'll get a nice black stripe across your cloths if you do try to use them because they are so dirty.
