The Secret Service uses multi tiered defense. The inner tier is close support, Secret Service agents who rush in and provide physical cover. In your example, a criminal trial with different rules, the defense could be you didn’t see them, or they dove in front of your moving car, or you were having a medical issue….or one of a thousand mitigating factors.
