Fleetwood Mac Albatross 1969.10.09 Pop & Blues Festival '69

vil says...

Sad.

So first I thought this was a really short video.

Then I googled and found out how little video material from that era exists.

I found a great clip of Oh Well, live, in the middle of that.

Then I googled that Danny Kirwan died two years ago.

Only then I noticed Peter Green died.

And then I "remembered" the lick from Oh Well as the Formula 1 intro from before The Chain.

Then I Googled it.

Then I realized that it wasnt.

Then I remembered a conversation I had with someone 40 years ago who heard Oh Well and said "this is the music from F1" and I explained that no, that is another song by the same band but its not the same band anymore.

Somehow what gets stuck in your head becomes potato mash at some point. Or its just me.

It was itself the theme to "25 years of rock" a few years later.

Peter gave everything away because of drug induced mental problems, not that much of a good role model. At least he made it out of the 70s alive.

The Walk.

Yes, jokes are "supposed" to be funny. If you show a video of an 11 degree ramp and say "oh its only 3 degrees" it adds nothing to your suggested punchline of the joke. In fact it detracts from it (i.e. if it is only 3 degrees then Biden running up it is meaningless).

Trump was factually correct. It was a steep ramp. There is just no way out of that. It doesn't mean he didn't look like a baby learning to walk as he walked down it, but it was still steep.

The punchline (if it were a joke, and it's not) would be Joe Biden running down the ramp. Not up. Unfortunately, for some reason, never before has the media foccused on a president walking down a ramp and it been a topic of conversation (because really, it is fucking inane). But if you hunt enough, you can find a video of Obama striding down the back ramp.

A basic requirement for being funny is... being funny. Which this video is not. But each to their own I guess.

It's a joke though, it's not supposed to fair, honest, accurate otherwise, it's just supposed to be funny.

Setup 1: We all presumably are familiar with Trump's "sleepy Joe" nickname and constant criticism of Biden's fitness.
Setup 2: Trump explaining at great, great length why he walked slowly down a ramp because of how treacherous it was.

Punchline: Joe Biden literally running up said ramp.

That's funny. Crying about inaccuracies or fallacies in it is like saying chickens don't roam freely so how can so many be crossing roads?

Bill Burr calls out Joe Rogan about wearing masks

00Scud00 says...

I don't watch Rogan very often, is he fucking serious about this risk taking shit? I mean if he wants to go and risk just his own dumb ass doing something stupid, that's his business. But he's risking everybody else as well. It's even weirder seeing Bill Burr as the voice of reason in this conversation.

Perfect: the bikes; the beer bottle. I would have liked to have heard their conversation afterwards: it was a special time, on the outskirts of wherever; I didn't want to be disconnected from it so quickly.

Black Man Gets Pulled Over For Doing 65 in a 70

newtboy says...

There's no such thing as a casual conversation with a racist pig. Only conversation designed to catch you in what they say is some admission or claim you slurred your words so they can violate you more.
Never answer questions. None. You have no obligation to help them investigate you, and that's what questions are. You have a constitutional right to remain silent, use it.

Another good cop? As good as they get now, only blatantly racist by his actions. There's no such thing as a good cop. They're a myth.
Note after seeing this video they aren't a bit convinced there's something wrong with him giving a written warning for not speeding and before they'll even consider looking at his actions they need an official complaint with his name, address, place of work, car model and color, license, and any other identifying information attached....for ID purposes not retaliation. His entire department backs him in this harassment. I'll bet $20 if he went to the precinct to make an official complaint they'll first spend hours dismissively trying to talk him out of it before claiming they're out of forms, come back next week and try again.

A warning for 5 mph under the limit. Yeah....I'm sure he pulls over every little old white lady he sees driving and arrests them, they go 20+mph under 70. What utter bullshit.

These aren't police, not civil servants, and they aren't there to help or keep the peace, they're violent, power tripping thugs, racists, liars, and are all severely lead deficient. The last two weeks have proven it conclusively.

Perry, please make that official formal complaint, and please record that interaction in full. This was not a valid traffic stop, it was an abuse of power by a disrespectful racist asshole who wanted to harass a black man.

I find it so difficult to imagine that he actually thought it would fit into that tiny ass trailer. I'd love to have heard the conversation. I bet it would have sounded hilarious.

Police fire (paintball?) at residents on their front porch

newtboy says...

In most rifles, it only requires swapping the bolt, something a qualified person can do in seconds, in others, the upper receiver, maybe a 1-2 minute job no harder than proper cleaning. Pistol conversion kits are similarly simple.
Don't be fooled that it's some long, difficult process so unlikely for that reason, it's simplistic and fast....and the conversion is just as easily and quickly reversible.

Edit: That didn't sound like an 40mms I've heard, more like a 9mm pistol with a light load. Any kind of 40mm round at that range would be brutal

jimnms said:

I doubt it was simunition. I've never heard of it being used outside of training (not saying it isn't thought). Simunition only works in special modified guns because it doesn't produce enough blowback to cycle in a normal gun, and guns modified for sumunition can't load regular ammunition.

Michael Flynn Scandal Explained

newtboy says...

He did violate the Logan act. Absolutely no question.

He lied to the FBI and said he hadn't talked to any Russian about any policy before Trump was in office, but they had him on tape telling the Russians not to worry about sanctions, Trump would remove them asap, a clear violation of the Logan act because it directly contradicted and contravened the then current government's international policy actions.
It hadn't been used before because no previous pre-administration had been so anti American as to violate it, or so stupid as to violate it using direct diplomatic phone lines that are routinely recorded, then deny it under oath.

He lied to the FBI directly, outright, saying absolutely no conversation concerning any policy happened, under oath....after first trying to deny any contact whatsoever. They proved it, so he pleaded guilty. It wasn't as he describes.

Funny I only had one opportunity to visit an american family (white) with a teenager and got to hear that conversation, obviously it was for my benefit too, but still - white people have to think about what they say to cops too. Not to try to put down the topic of the video.

Also time machine.

Finally a Doctor on the News Talking Fucking Sense

lucky760 says...

Yeah, I did a double-take and for a moment expected as if it were just an in-person conversation for the doctor to say "Actually, in that case the wife was more affected," then figured he didn't because he might feel kind of weird stopping to correct the reporter on live TV.

In general, it is men who are more affected, so the reporter was making a valid point. I think he just misheard or misunderstood the doctor's example when the doctor said "worse shape" meaning physically, in general.

(Or it could be that he thought the doctor misspoke and referenced the husband and wife in reverse.)

Digitalfiend said:

At 2:13 the doctor states that the wife ended up on a ventilator but the husband, "who was in much worse shape than the wife", ended up fine. Given the context of the conversation at that point, where the doctor was saying they can't predict who the virus will seriously affect, I took his statement as: the husband was in much worse *physical* shape than the wife yet he wasn't affected by the virus as severely (if at all). Fast-forward to @2:40 and the reporter states the complete opposite, as though he wasn't even listening to the doctor, and goes on to ask why men are more affected than women. Weird...

Tim Minchin | Leaving LA

This bit made me think about a conversation Michim had recently regarding his film. He was talking about how the studio shut it down and how they would rather lose all the money (45 mil) than sell it and end up "looking stupid" if someone else made it and it did well. The price at which they possibly would sell it for is so insane that it insures it gets dumped. It's referred to as Schmuck Insurance it seems. He talks about it here if anyone's interested https://youtu.be/vUZ1Rw90hvU?t=817

Let's not forget.....
“I’ve got this thing and it’s f—ing golden, and, uh, uh, I’m just not giving it up for f—-in’ nothing. I’m not gonna do it. And, and I can always use it. I can parachute me there.”— Nov. 5, 2008, in a conversation secretly recorded on FBI wiretap about Obama’s Senate seat.
Not exactly the type of political fundraising that was considered ordinary (or legal) in the days before Trump...selling vacant Senate seats to the highest bidder....and certainly not what Mandela was in prison for. I hope he got a few more things that were f-ing golden in prison.
