The Most Violent Sport On Earth - Calcio Storico

Mauru says...

Unfortunately it is only interesting when condensed into a video of this length. The usual matches seem to consist of 50 minutes of people engaging in poser brawls - then somebody remembers that he can actually run over to the other team's goal.
The lack of athletic competitiveness means that neither the fights nor the ballplay end up particularily engaging :-(

TDS: Minimum wage hike and the Pope denouncing Trickle Down

pensword says...

15 an hour is quite feasible. The only consequence it has is on the level of surplus value harvested by capitalists.

The working day is divided into two segments. The part that the person works to equate the cost of reproducing themselves. The other part is the portion not paid for by the capitalist: surplus labor, or, surplus value. This is the source of profit.

Raising the minimum wage to $15 increases variable capital (wages). The other part of capital is constant capital: machines, tech, etc.

The rise in variable capital will increase the necessary labor of the working day, taking away the portion that goes to surplus value.

The working class has fought and won a raise in wages throughout history, quite often. It is necessary politically when the wages (price for labor-power) does not equal the actual value of labor power (cost to reproduce oneself).

Capitalists can easily make do here. They will just devise new ways of getting more surplus value. The can raise the minimum wage no problem, they will just fire workers and buy more machines to replace the fired workers, and then make the workers that are left work really hard (condensation of labor).

And no, this wont make a big mac cost more money.

This fight is necessary, just and progressive for humanity. We shouldn't ask why workers at McDonalds should or shouldn't get $15 an hour. We should ask why we all can't have that much. Fuck, lets go farther. Down with the 1% and capitalism. Lets go for more then $15 an hour. Lets storm heaven itself!

Worst Twerk Fail EVER - Girl Catches Fire!

sanderbos says...

Obviously fake (clothes are more fire retardant than that), but really very very well done apart from the fire.
Usually there are multiple tells that a video was faked, but here it is only condensed story telling (the whole story is told from start to finish in 37 seconds, real life is a little more boring that), and from candles to full on torch in 2 seconds that gives it away.

Pile Up on Italian Expressway

Sorry about the quality of this vid, appears to be condensation and rain on the camera lens.
--------------------
After slushy snow re-froze on this expressway in Porto San Georgio, Ascoli Piceno, Italy, it created an ultra-slick driving surface. The result was a multi-car pile-up that was captured by an unmanned traffic camera.

So @ 3:01 lemme see, berry mix, (some thin whitish dairy?), cream, sweetened condensed milk, and that gelatin wad at the end there(?), never saw this before....Can this confection be anymore convoluted and time-consuming?

For those in the 1% who would frequent dives like these, even food has become a bore.

BTW, there's that canned music accompanying no verbal instructions-Again, the best way to make a cooking video-Peeps that need kitchen chemistry 101 need not apply! Love this format for instructional viddies.

The Beerglass That May Save Humanity

artician says...

This is one of the stupidest things I've seen on the internet.

1) condensation
2) if you're out, and on your phone, you'll probably not be out long
3) I've seen people do this at social situations they don't want to be at. Most who are at a bar, want to be there.
4) if not number 3, then number 2.
5) forget it... this video is not even worth the effort.

Game of Thrones Season 3: Inside the Red Wedding

MilkmanDan says...

@Yogi - Hmm. You thought Season 3 was dragging on and on, but you also want the seasons to be 20 2-hour shows long? I think I would like a very in-depth take on the source that way, but I tend to think that most people would feel like things were dragging too much.

Personally, I liked the books and am enjoying watching a for-TV take on the material. Some things disappoint me compared to the books, but on the whole I feel like it is pretty well done. Sorta like Peter Jackson's LOTR. In both cases, as a fan of the books a longer runtime would almost always be better from my perspective but I can usually understand the cuts made to condense down the material. I'd even include being OK with stuff like Tom Bombadil missing in the LOTR films, which irked a lot of fans; or at least a vocal number on the internet.

The Red Wedding from the books was fairly shocking for me on first reading, but on the other hand I recovered from it fairly quickly since I was personally a bigger fan of Jon Snow as my Stark clan icon from the get-go. As mentioned in the video here, Robb is played up quite a bit in the series, so I guess that for people who haven't read the books it might be an even bigger initial shock than it was to book readers.

/potential slight spoilers

...Not to mention that some other events coming up quite soon replace the "holy shit, that was brutal!" reaction to the Red Wedding with "holy shit, that was brutally awesome!"...

Ender's Game Trailer

00Scud00 says...

Heh, the way trailers are these days you can save yourself ten bucks and just watch the trailer. And it's not really the condensing of the plot that bothers me, I can understand that, although I'd have to see the full movie to pass final judgement on that part of it. My comments about the romance were based on not just the trailer but things I had heard about the film a while back and that one of the reasons Ender is older is to add some kind of romance to the plot.
This was something that Card repeatedly fought against when negotiating the film rights earlier on, I did at least respect him for sticking to his guns on that point and was disappointed to see him retreat on the issue. (although, after doing more reading on this perhaps I spoke too soon on the romance angle, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see.)

Nebosuke said:

*sigh* Could they possibly give anything more away with the trailer?

Anyways, it will always be an issue compressing a dense 384 page book into 1:30. The movie is just going to be disappointing.

Side note: there doesn't seem to be added romance. That's Ender hugging his sister.

They did say this is the shortest one, but also that:

There will be longer episodes, too, but the idea is to provide condensed info and not to overload the clips.

The comments say either that the clips are too short or else

By design it is 15 very short episodes, short but to the point.

Don't Mess with Drivers that Wear Gloves

Bill Burr Takes Aim at Lance and Oprah on Conan...

Deano says...

To condense this more seriously, Armstrong was the organiser and chief perpetrator of PEDs in cycling.
Given the rules in which he operated he should pay a price. There is also the related legal backlash from various third parties - good luck there Lance.

But I do accept we need to ask if a war on PEDs is any different to the (arguably) failed war on drugs.

People *want* to see cyclists bombing along at speeds ordinary folk can't muster. They want to see Olympic records broken. You either do this by being a naturally outstanding athlete (e.g Bolt, who's on record as happy to chomp down chicken nuggets) or start doping.

It's bothered me a bit that improving yourself in this sense is beyond the pale but having access to the best facilities, coaching and medical staff while others skimp by with very little is somehow acceptable.

I think it's acceptable because it's a nonsense to try to police that. And perhaps it's the same with PEDs.

IIRC there was a British athlete who went on to voice support for PEDs. That was a long time ago and I don't recall the name. A few more today need to start questioning conventional thinking.

To be honest I care less about you than I care about Lance having his jerseys. Think about it *Glare*

Also Jail for Perjury and Fraud, why? We don't put bankers in jail, we don't put war criminals in jail. Why the fuck does everyone get soo upset about athletes cheating but people who cause real problems in our country "Eh whatever." Fuck Everyone!
