Pat Condell - Violence is not the answer
>> ^Jinx:
>> ^longde:
This guy is an anti-muslim hatemonger himself. I'm sure he has influenced a few nuts.
I hate Starbucks, I tell people I hate Starbucks. Am I responsible for a maniac blowing up Starbucks? Maybe we should all silence ourself lest we knock a domino over in somebodies broken mind.
There are good reasons to Hate Islam. They are not good reasons to murder innocent civilians. There is a difference between expressing your hate of Islam, and inciting violence against followers of Islam. If you can't understand this I'm afraid you might be one of those "few nuts".
Certainly you're not responsible. But you would be kidding yourself if you think hating and insulting religion(s) is going to solve the problem or do anything other than make the divisions between people wider. It IS possible to be critical of religion without being insulting, but it doesn't get you as many YouTube upvotes which is why Condell won't do it. He couldn't even restrain himself for this particular vid, with its message about violence I wholeheartedly agree with. Upvoted only for that message.

I disagree with him strongly sometimes. This is not one of those times.

Insulting religion
@SDGundamX
I stand corrected. It seems to me to be neither sarcasm nor hypocrisy, but ironic parody of all the (death) threats and "You'll burn in hell"s that people like Condell get for criticising religion. To suggest that he truly wishes harm on others is to miss the style of his comedy altogether. I've watched almost all of his videos, so to me it went without saying, but I understand that someone not familiar with his style could infer what you do.
Also, your comment to @MaxWilder suggests that you didn't get the point about "insulting". What Pat does in his videos is turn the rhetoric of religious fundies and apologists back on them, in this case those who call any criticism of Islam "insult" or "blasphemy" (those two are often used as synonyms by the Islamist defenders).
You ask, "what is the point?" The point is, imo, to encourage non-believers and (eventually) moderate believers not to sit quietly and "take it" when religion tramples all over basic human rights, and then tries to shut up those who call it out for it. Lack of dissent is silent assent. To paraphrase Sagan:
"If we offer too much silent assent about mysticism and superstition [the abuse of human rights]—even when it seems to be doing a little good—we abet a general climate in which skepticism [criticism] is considered impolite [insulting], science tiresome, and rigorous thinking [ethical concerns] somehow stuffy and inappropriate.
Pat Condell: Cultural Terrorism
@BicycleRepairMan
He just posted a follow up video in which he corrects himself on that.

The rape statistics are accurate, and the news report is from NRK which is Norways answer to the BBC, and is generally regarded as a trustworthy news-outlet. The subtitles/translation is also fairly accurate
BUT, Condell fails to mention that the rapes in questions were "Assault-rapes" That is the kind of rape where the rapist assaults a woman he doesnt know and then rapes them. The statistics do not include rape where the victims knows the rapist and/or willingly goes with him, talks to him and so forth prior to the rape.
Also, it is not specified what religion the rapists have, but it seems most of them are from Somalia, pakistan and other countries with Islam as the dominant religion.

He's possessed.

Do these atheists ever stop preachin'?
Christians claim to be filled with the holy spirit. Does that mean they are possessed too?

What sort of proof does Pat Condell want that there's a God?
Sad that he can recognize the appeal to authority fallacy when it applies to a religion but not when it applies to the government. He's putting his personal bias against the Muslim faith ahead of reason and rational thought.

The Greatest Lie Ever Told
I usually like Pat's videos, but this one was really bad. Condell falls for the "use Jesus against fundie X-ans" trap, giving credence to a fictional character, while forgetting who it was who invented the tyrannical non-choice of "love me or be tortured for eternity". Pat, are you getting old/senile?
