I just tossed out my Compaq Armada 1585DMT back in 2013. It was my college lappy. It was working well when I booted it up. I laughed at my Windows 95 OS2's animated ST LCAR startup and shut down screens, icons, custom multi-configs for DOS, etc.

I worked at HP when that worthless bitch was in charge. Her haughtiness and arrogance rubbed everyone the wrong way from the rank-and-file to the top management. Her purchase of Compaq was Enron-level incompetent. HP was a great company and she flew it right into the ground.

My favourite was a person that ordered 36 replacement server case screws from Compaq. It arrived on a palette, each screw in a zip lock baggie, in a foam padded box, inside another box, then those 36 boxes inside another larger box, then that strapped to the palette.

Not to take away anything that this man has to say...but is that a Compaq laptop from about 1995 running Windows 3.1 sitting on the desk?

I don't like her politics, but she didn't destroy Compaq. I think that deal turned out well, and the folks that were part of Compaq are still there in Houston.

I use Extreme PC to build PCs to my specifications. They really know their shit and go out of their way to give you the best value rather than just trying to fleece you. Counter to what you'd think, their prices on individual components are extremely competitive.

I'm considering building my next system completely on my own, just for fun, as it's not like there's anything I need to learn about mounting CPUs and motherboard trays...

Right now I have one main production system. The backup P4 has been in the closet for two years. I also have a laptop (Compaq R3060) which has served me for more than four years now. Pretty sweet laptop, came out in 2003, has a dedicated video card (only 64MB and equivalent to the Radeon 8500) and can run source games pretty well at low res.

Compaq makes some rather excellent server hardware.

i have a 6 year old compaq that still works perfectly fine. only upgrades have been an extra hardrive and some usb 2.0 ports. use my laptop more now, but the compaq has been a trooper.
