reactions to the mountain viper fight GoT - spoilers
That's fair enough. I haven't read the books but the tv version butchered this scene in so many ways.
Up front note: nobody should be surprised Oberyn died - it's GOT - it's to be expected.
That said, I wish the director wouldnt have.... Oberyn (an experienced fighter) be cool as ice before the fight just to turn into a emotional wreck a few seconds into the fight.
Don't show us the Mountain as a lumbering hulk who then, after being fully run through with a spear twice and having a calf slashed, turn into a super ninja while Oberyn makes a beginners mistake and turns into a sloth.
The director going comic book bad guys on us sucked.
My reply was more of a general comment. But evey death serves a purpose in the book. It starts off something later on and steam rolls. If ned didnt die, there wouldnt of been this whole war in the first place. If Robb didnt die, he would have made his way south and it would be a different book all together.
This is a very dark epic for sure. But it has its awesome moments.
Gotham - Extended Trailer
Please tell me this isn't "Batman Kids" or something.
Listen up, comic book peoples. Drop the goddamn everything is all connected at the origin plot device.
Man of Steel did it and did it badly; Kal-El isn't just superman, he's Krypton Jesus.
The Amazing Spiderman did it and completely fucking missed the point of Spiderman; Peter Parker becomes Spiderman because of genetic destiny instead of, ya know, accepting that responsibility comes with power(which is only his fucking motto).
Even Hulk did it.
And now we see that Bruce Wayne interacts with Catwoman, and the Riddler etc as a child? sigh...
On the other hand... yay Major Rawls is back!
So I'm with @RFlagg on this one. Not expecting much, but willing to be pleasantly surprised.
Huckabee is Not a Homophobe, but...
Idk. Phelps et al took homophobia to a whole new level. It's easy to rail against such a comic book villain. Disagreeing with Phelps, even on his stance on homosexuality, doesn't necessarily mean you still don't have a mostly negative attitude towards homosexuality. I'm thinking of the "hate the sin, love the sinner" crowd. I think Huckabee and his ilk fit into this sort of "homophobia lite". They dress their bigotry up in platitudes and are likely to find support from some or the same people who might have decried Phelps. One might look towards Russia in the run up to Sochi. There you see the same sort of stance, where they enact policy that strips gays of their rights whilst insisting that its not borne of homophobia and is merely to protect children from paedophiles. I do not doubt their sincerity in this belief - most homophobes don't identify themselves as homophobes.
Ultimately I think these extreme undiluted views create an illusion of overwhelming support for gay rights. Perhaps the publicity raised a debate about homosexuality/phobia, but that debate still had to be fought and won by gay rights activists, not through us all uniting against a sort of shill.
I certainly hope things continue the way they have been. Still, there are parts of the world which seem to be regressing in this regard (see Russia again -.-). I have a feeling that rallying against any minority group is always going to be an effective political tactic, especially if it's done under the guise of protecting children from sexual abuse or preserving "family values".
Eventually these people will die, and the old husks and their followers left behind will spur further movements towards greater equality.
Just think, Fred Phelps did more to help Gays gain sympathy and rights than probably any of you did.
Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trailer
I'm sorry but the first movie is a feat of amazing proportions. It was dark and awesome with cool setting and art direction, filmed like a serious movie and it's soundtrack was AMAZINGLY corny to be put with that dark backdrop. I mean come on Sam Rockwell is in it as a little thug, that's amazing.
I still watch the first one to this day and it was the only movie poster I've ever had on my wall, I loved that movie more than any other as a kid. Multiple viewings over the years haven't disappointed me or spoiled me on it unlike nearly every movie including Return of the Jedi and Indiana Jones Temple of Doom. April quietly monologuing while she draws these awesome pictures of the Turtles, it's incredible what comic book movie has the balls to do that?
The suits make that movie for me though, they work sooo freaking well. It's just the best, everything about it makes me love it.
Two words: Vanilla Ice.
How much worse could it be? Well, okay, the first one was alright. It would be cool if they went further back to their roots and they were more like real teenagers instead of a middle-aged focus group's opinion of what adolescents associate with being a teenager. Hint: it's beer, not pizza.
edit: Full disclosure, when I was 12, I waited in line for an hour to get tickets when the first TMNT movie opened.

I"M RICH BITCH!
X-Men: Days of Future Past Trailer 2
I must say, I did not expect that much Dinklage. Looks promising. Comic books have a proud tradition of retcon, good they're trying to undo the franchise suicide note that was X-Men 3.
London Super Comic Con - (2014)
Only one out of 20 people in that video have actually ever cracked a comic book.
Superman with a GoPro
Like the comic books of old leaving-out the subtle nuances of physics like whiplash, shock, or the smartest guy on the planet taking the word of a traumatized (or in this case, apparently love-struck-and-with-full-faculties building superintendent) hottie over a quick-fly-back and a glance through with x-ray eyeballs to maybe, make sure the gal was correct?!
Never could stand the inconsistencies of DC's bread-and-butter character, who seems to like his flesh-and-blood human male counterparts, becomes more dim-witted and effeminate with each passing year. Still at the Daily Planet for the day job? C'mon Superman, really?! You should at the very least have a gig with naval intelligence, I hear-tell they still issue the birth-control glasses you so effectively use for that awe-inspiring disguise.
"Oh, you mean that burning, exploding building I just fell out of? No, Superman, there's no one else in there. Yes, I'm absolutely sure of that. No need to think anything more of it. And yes, I'm normally this calm when I'm blown out of skyrises."
33 Simpsons Impressions
Fat Tony, Snake and Comic Book Guy were pretty good.
The rest.. meh
Captain America: Winter Soldier - Trailer 2
You do realize that it's simply a movie filled with comic book heroes, right?
This isn't some Upton Sinclair style expose of an industry. It's not an allegory of the politcal-corporate complex.
It's a friggin' super-hero comic book movie meant to entertain people in an air-conditioned theater when it's hot outside.
Perspective a bit.
Is it just me, or do the heroic one liners about freedom ring more hollow every day as these buffed up brain-dead roid monkeys fight to maintain a government and status quo that shifts dramatically from generation to generation away from freedom and towards economic slavery and tyranny?
Sadly, these sorts of movies just serve to placate the masses while their freedoms are stripped away. But hey, who cares, awesome FX, right?
Rogue Gets Fired from the X-Men
Seriously though... does anybody stay dead in the comic book world (other than a few nobodies)...
I just saw an article where she gets completely disintegrated after killing Scarlet Witch though.
How to draw great butts with just five lines
So how do you draw that ass with that place where your hand cups just right that you can see from the front when those thighs are slightly apart?? You know, comic book super-heroin asses! THAT ass's got to have more than 5 lines!
These asses would look good in a Rubens' painting...of women from Mexico!!
Honest Trailers - Man of Steel
I had low expectations (dunno why exactly), but I liked the movie quite a bit. I know very little about the comic book Superman, only stuff I've picked up from other sources -- so I don't know if or how extensive any backstory alterations were.
One thing that I've always thought about Superman is that it sure seems like it would be more likely that an "alien" in his situation would turn out pretty evil; absolute power corrupting absolutely and that sort of thing. I thought this movie did a better job than the (limited) other versions that I've seen of having him face down those temptations.
Cosplay Highlights from MCM London Comic Con 2013
Ok, I get comic book characters, video game characters, obscure anime/manga, but the two that dressed up as that abortion masquerading as cinema known as the lone ranger should be taken out and beaten with sticks.
OTOH, the two guys that dressed up as Nick Frost and Simon Pegg from the Worlds End? They win that show.
Honest Trailers - Thor
k, Bifrost is not just a comic book creation. I'm fairly certain both Nintendo and Marvel pulled this from the source.
See you in Valhalla motherfucker.
