Finally upgraded (Videogames Talk Post)

^Oh, of course. I've got a back catalog of games that I haven't even played or been able to see in their full glory: Bioshock, COD4 (never played it), UT3 (never played it), L4D (only seen on low settings, no shadows). Just been too busy with school.

And of course school work, surfing, Videosift , etc. I'm actually excited to see what Blu-ray will look like as I have a 47" 1080P TV but have only been using an upconverting DVD player. So it'll be the first time for that too.

But does anyone recommend a good "burning in" software? Is BurnInTest any good?

While it's somewhat of a dream for me to be employed by an independent dev of Infinity Ward-caliber, unfortunately I couldn't really say I'm involved in the industry at the moment. I've merely been a... I guess the word is "producer" for a single casual game and for half a year I've also been co-producing another RPG/adventure/quest game that's got a twist to it, which, in the case of success, will hopefully lead to (read:greenlight a big, completely unique project, that would be aimed at establishing gaming as a recognized and respected social medium among non-gamers, sort of a PR-project for the whole industry.

Among GraterGraterers that I know are in the industry are Zonbie (who's an artist for the upcoming World in Conflict: Soviet Assault RTS) and there's also crushbug, who's been working with BioWare for more than 9 years. But I bet there's whole lotta more of them

Cheers, Ed

I'm a coder on MW2, doing mainly rendering and gameplay. I've only been working at this company a little under a year, so I wasn't at all involved in CoD4.

Are you in the industry? Is there another grater who works in games?

Thanks for the kind words! I really like the teaser, too.

Oh my goodness -another- one of you lucky bastards who enjoys being employed at a game developer with top-quality products.

Seriously, I am green with envy here. Incidentally, what's your line of work if that's not under non-disclosure?

P.S. I genuinely meant what I said there, it's the best teaser I have ever seen (and I absolutely can't stand teasers 99% of the time).

Left 4 Dead - 101 Witches (In One Room)

I don't do multilayer, so I'm skipping this one (just like CoD4, Gears, etc).

I'm sure its worth it if you have enough friends on XBL/Steam so that you can jump in and always have someone to play with.

Zero Punctuation: Farcry 2

Farcry 2 got boring quick.

I liked Yahtzee's point about open ended games; I've always prefered more linear games with better pacing like Bioshock and COD4.

Also, Farcry 2 is not a Cry project; that would be Crysis.

heh, yeah. I was thinking COD4. "Friendlies are marked with strobes. Do not fire on any personnel marked with a strobe."

You know what this reminds me of?

one level in CoD4, where your a gunner on a C130, taking down Russians, where your crew whoops and hollers every time you get a hit, except this time its real.

War has become a spectator sport in sense, people can become far enough removed from it, that it is just like playing space invaders, and that is what I find truly frightening.

In addition, I cannot up/downvote this in clear conscience, since I watched to about the 1min mark and then felt horribly sick.

bwahahaha. Been playing this game a lot lately. I'm nearing that magical 65! Then I can try out the M1A1 Carbine to see how well that does. Also gave the M1 Garand w/ the Sniper Scope a test drive last night. Sucker is nasty as an alternative to bolt-action rifles. Anyways...

Copycats!
The leveling system was originally a concept from RTCW: Enemy Territory. (no! Team Fortress 2 wasn't the first!)
It's because Grey matter (developers of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, plus the Enemy Territory) was merged into Treyarch, who have developed CoD 5.
No, not Quake wars Enemy Territory, The Wolfenstein Enemy Territory.
Only if it had better graphics

But the "leveling" system was in CoD4, which was developed by Infinity Wards, not Treyarch. Treyarch took the same engine from CoD4 and improved upon it (if there is such a thing). So while leveling up isn't anything new (it's still like ranks, only done differently), it's still part of how the game plays on multi-player.

I played COD4 on occasion online, then I realize my reflexes aren't what they used to be when I was 16 playing Counter-Strike. Thus I turn off my old CRT monitor, cool down the vaccum tubes on the motherboard, take the COD4 punch card instructions and go back to my rocking chair.

Yeah, I had to look it up but their example of a recent game they wouldn't spoil, bioshock, came out in August of last year. . . And CoD4 came out in December.

Still, pretty good list. I was going to sift this, but was foiled by siftbot. I wonder if there's some reasoning behind preventing newer members from posting videos from Game Trailers.
