Oops, sorry, the fake, slanted, taken out of context news organizations….those are all the news organization accounts on Trump’s Pravda Social.

They were caught over the weekend creating multiple fake accounts, with logos, pretending to be the exact news organizations Trump constantly called fake news like CNN. They created these fake accounts because looking like they had those news organizations on his platform made it seem a bit more legitimate. 8 days in and it’s already a total shit show of a propaganda website.

Also, security experts say stay as far away as possible, there’s no security on the site, and it likely installs all kinds of malware. It doesn’t actually work as a website yet because they seem to have stolen the code from Twitter but don’t actually know how to make it work, they can’t even get people signed up, and it’s already populated with mostly fake accounts….fake liberal accounts created by Trumpists to laugh at, fake Trumpist accounts created by liberals to fuck with the site from, fake accounts created by Russians to spread division and propaganda, and now fake accounts created by the creators to give their site credibility by riding the coattails of those “fake news” organizations and borrowing/stealing credibility from them.

How to Cash in by Selling Out

kir_mokum says...

hard eyeroll

dave rubin has some deeply flawed ideas but this is just a limp jab that's, ironically, trying to ride rubin's coattails. to the point of naming his channel in response to rubin's show. (which, oddly enough, isn't the only YT channel doing that).

Koch Brothers Can't Stand Their Own Organizations

lantern53 says...

Pretty sad that Basement Boy has to try and ride the coattails of a losing liberal commentator.

But who knows what reasons the Koch brothers have for doing what they do. As for the Florida law, I think it sounds pretty awesome. People who get gov't taxpayer money should be drug tested. The leading cause of death in the county where I live is drug overdose. Heroin overdoses are now epidemic. My wife just went to a funeral for a girl, 24 yrs old, who overdosed. My wife's best friend's daughter got addicted to heroin. Church-going people.

But instead of talking about something important, Ms. Bloviator sounds like she's just uncovered the greatest scandal since Teapot Dome. She must be very satisfied with herself. Bravo.

Lewis Black - america does not understand teachers

kceaton1 says...

Something tells me he knew someone as a teacher. My Mother is a teacher (retired now) and let me say, that is one of the most selfless jobs in the world--IF you decide to make it that way. There are some teachers that truly do ride on the coattails of others.

But, the majority (especially Elementary) need a huge amount of preparation to get anything done. The digital age will help this, a bit. The real problem is lack of funds (along with not buying adequate resource materials), lack of pay, and BY FAR the biggest issue is classroom size...

Kiefer Sutherland Sells Axe Bodyspray

PostalBlowfish says...

Interesting approach, somewhat confessional with a movie trailer kind of feel to it. They managed to visualize what sounds like a personal story and end up not even selling their product until the few seconds that count in a commercial. I was expecting Kiefer to sell out here but he doesn't end up playing the role of a salesman. He tells his story, says he'd do it differently... which likely we all would tell a similar story and say we'd do it differently. AXE adds the weak implication that their product would make a difference but it pretty transparent and almost even laughable coming on the coattails of Sutherland's gravitas.

Kermit Shrugged (2011 - R for strong language and graphic depictions of sharing and caring)

Synopsis: After years of supporting the rest of the parasite Muppets that seem content to ride his coattails, Kermit the Frog decides to relocate to a desert island with a group of sanctimonious industrialists and pretentious artists.

You know, someone has tried that excact clip, and only got 5 votes - http://videosift.com/video/Sesame-Street-Elmos-Song

Other Elmo ones have got as many as 135 votes - http://videosift.com/video/Elmo-Interviews-Ricky-Gervais

You'd be surprised what will do well here sometimes

Your two PQ'd on 9 videos would probably sift if you ran them through beggar's canyon on a Thursday or Friday (to get the weekend traffic), and then you would only need to post a handful more to get bronze (says the newbie to the long standing member!). If you renew your membership, a promote would be even better.

On re-reading your comment below, I'd like to clarify that I only ever meant to ban self promotion during an anonymous week contest, not in general, and it's certainly quicker to promote than to go out vote whoring the hard way.
In reply to this comment by Truckchase:
Ahhh, that explains it, mine aren't old enough to like anything but "Elmo's song" yet. Doubt that would get many votes.

In reply to this comment by oritteropo:
We might not quite be on the same page, but I think we're in the same chapter. I agree with everything you said here, except the part about changes being required to get there

I can confirm that children are no impediment to success here. In my case, I've had more success with ones my children like (or that I looked up for them) than the ones that I posted just because I liked them. They are usually only demanding until they're asleep

I'm quite surprised that BT and FA followed us here for this conversation too, even though I hang out in their corner of the sift. Perhaps they read the recent comment stream?
In reply to this comment by Truckchase:
Sounds good. At the end of the day I don't think video quality voting should be based on personal loyalty. You must have made quite an impression already to have a couple really great guys (BT, FA) on the sift upvoting your personal comment to some random dude.

If you're willing to take the time to make yourself an integral part of this community the perspective of favoring loyalty votes and disallowing self promotion will work well for you. On the other hand, I'm in favor of measures to empower those who don't devote much time to the site but enjoy it and the people just as much. (i.e. me; my kids are demanding) I would also argue that it would be healthier for the site and the community as a whole to welcome such measures since the attitude of person-to-person loyalty will endure regardless of the obstacles placed in front of it. The last thing I think you really want here is an echo chamber despite how appealing it may seem at face value.

I agree with that statement. Additionally, that bastard Elmo is riding Ricky Gervais' coattails.

How Videogamers Are Ruining The Industry They Love

RedSky says...

What he was saying is, we reward games disproportionately for the first impressions they make, the marketing, distribution etc... of them when we buy them off the shelves without having tried them, and that's what leads to an industry of derivative sequels, a lack of risk taking and creativity and a side lining of indie games. Whether they gaming industry likes it or not though, piracy is basically enabling people, especially when it comes down to single player games, to 'try before you buy'.

He's not saying anything new by any means. The same thing applies to movies, music, virtually any other genre. The movie industries is flooded with sequels, remakes, rehashes, whereas the music industry basically rides on the coattails of a few big celebrity bands/singers/routine dancing pop stars. If anything the game industry is ahead of the bell curve. When I discuss games with other people, what reviews it's getting comes up way more often as a conversation topic than for movies. I guess movies are generally a more subjective medium though. Not to mention some but definitely not all indie games like Braid, World of Goo, Plants VS Zombies did get lots of coverage on prominent review sites like Gamespot/IGN, which helps a lot.

Feeling a Little Confident?

imstellar28 says...

my15minutes: the foundation of communism is collectivism. the abolition of private property is a corollary.

januari : if i walk into a field of cows and exclaim "theres sh*t everywhere" am i closed minded or lacking reason? how is this any different?

asmo: you don't deserve articulate and polite. you deserve a dunce hat and a chair in the corner. don't worry i'm sure it wont be lonely as you have just shown you can easily put words in other peoples mouths. just pretend theres a face behind those words who actually wants to talk to a dunce.

ridesallyridenc: you don't even know the basis for what you list, so you are in no position to speak of human rights. the men who wrote those words knew very clear the foundation of what they had created. you do not. you are merely riding the coattails of your forebears.

gwiz665: i have no problem with voluntary altruism (in fact i encourage it). the only type of altruism i speak out against is the forced variety. it is not altruism if you are forced to help others with physical violence. altruism has a desirable place in a social philosophy, and no place in a system of law.

Alien Technology? Building Ancient World Monuments

raven says...

Ahh, Erich Von Daniken (the little dutchman who gets to speak first in this clip), one of my favorite pseudo-scientists! I actually went to one of his lectures about five years ago and met him... he is a crazy bastard!! Anyway, just so you all know, this guy, for all the books he has published, actually has no credetials whatsoever, before "Chariots of the Gods" was published in 1968 he was a concierge at a hotel... not someone I would "grab onto the coattails of".

As fun as the fantasy of ancient alien patronage is he, and people like him, have done a huge disservice to humanity as a whole by taking the credit of amazing accomplishments away from our ancestors and placing it in the laps of extraterrestrials. I think it is hugely important for us to recognize that despite the 'primative' lifestyles and technology of the ancients they were every bit as intelligent, creative, and determined as we are.

Anyway, I'm done ranting... but as a student of archaeology, you can understand my ire.
