That ball is actually a moving pivot point in a gigantic rotating mock-gymnasium.
The actors in the background are all highly skilled wall climbers, and are pretty good at holding on in a giant spinning room situation.

The dude just followed the pivot and jumped over it as it spun, giving the illusion (well pulled off I might add) that he was actually just performing a neat acrobatics trick. Its not possible to do that IRL, its all trickery, thank you modern digital cameras and editing suits.

It takes a long time, but after a while you trust your gear, you trust yourself. But even then most climbers get that butt-pucker of terror now and again. Eventually you get to the point that you can enjoy looking down on the back of birds in flight. Spending a night out on a big wall is not something you'll forget. The internet likes to use the work 'epic' but doesn't have much understanding of it's real meaning most of the time.

Climbers are just getting insanely strong, pushing the scale off the limits. The hardest route I've ever climbed and finished is a 6b. I can't even begin to imagine how Sharma keeps himself up against that rock.

I agree I thought they were going to arm wrestle and beat the shit out of each other. This ended up being something weird like two rock climbers duking it out, harnessed on belay.

1. That whole damn time of panic, with people shouting etc and the climber never thought to rappel all the way to the ground, or at least close to it?

2. Um, backup? A second rope that was out of view for safety wouldn't have lessoned the drama/impact of the protest itself.

I mean, sure the police acted hastily, but c'mon. A few minutes of thinking by the protesters about how this *might* play out beforehand would have been helpful. Like EMPIRE mentioned, one random angry motorist (I believe they exist) could have f*cked it all up before the police even got there.

I'm all for free speech and right to manifest one's opinion, but these idiots... oh my god... what a bunch of fucking retards.
First of all, preventing other people from going on about their lifes should be met with a punch to the face.
Not to mention the complete stupidity of hanging from a rope taking the huge risk of having a stupid driver just keep on going and cutting the rope.

And secondly.... The rope had a LOT of slack in the middle of the road. Which means they were not hanging from it. The rope was wrapped around several times on the sides of the bridge.
