Simpsons on Youtube: A thing of the past? (Sift Talk Post)
Yeah, I don't vote for things like TDS and Robot Chicken either - It's all too easy to find those and post them. But sometime I do want to watch a classic clip from the Simpsons, and it will suck if I can't.

World Of Warcraft - Onyxia Wipe (Guild Master goes NUTS)
This is one of those classic clips, if you play WoW
The guild master freaks out when something goes wrong. Its hilarious
I have a t-shirt that says "More dots! More dots!"
From WP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onyxia_Wipe):
"Onyxia Wipe is a popular sound clip recorded from a session of World of Warcraft that was widely circulated around the internet, and spawned several longstanding Warcraft-related memes. The sound is of a guild named "Wipe Club" on the server "Chromaggus" attempting to take on Onyxia, a difficult boss."
---------------------------
Here's a bit of an explanation:
-WoW is a MMORPG - thousands of people all playing in the same virtual world. There are currently about 8 million people playing worldwide. That's 0.1% of earth's population
-Guilds are groups of players. They can range from small to very large (hundreds of players)
-Dungeons are the big part of the game - this is wear all the "loot" is, along with big tough bosses. Grouping ranges from 5 to 40 people (>=10 is a "raid")
-This video is of a guild raiding Onyxia's Lair. This is a short dungeon but with a very powerful dragon that takes a long time to defeat. It takes a lot of co-ordination and planning
-As you can see from the video, it doesn't go so well.
-Wipe = everyone dies
-DKP = dragon kill points. players accrue these by running dungeons/raids in order to "purchase" loot. This is not an in-game system. It was thought up of players ages ago. If you do something wrong you can lose points.
-GM = guild master (the dude yelling)
-The 40 man raid is broken up into groups of 5. the GM tells them all what to do
-The fight with onyxia is long and has to be managed. The warriors have to keep the dragon's attention (aggro) because they can take the most damage. Other players attacking could accidentally "steal aggro" and then the dragon would attack them, killing them very quickly
-Welps = baby dragons.
-DPS = damage per second; DoT=Damage over Time

Go milia go - is milia even an active sifter?
It'd be a shame to lose a "classicized" clip, eh?

Downvote Philosophy (Sift Talk Post)
I like the "limit # of downvotes per week" suggestion; it's a lot simpler than a ratio.
I have an additional refinement, based on comments from above: introduce to limit on videos in queue, but consider allowing people to go trigger-crazy on videos that have already made it to the front page. This may not be a necessary or even welcome refinement, but it's just a compromise suggestion in case, after further thought, people decide that whatever restriction is imposed is... "too restrictive."
Whatever the solution, it's certainly valuable to retain a limited downvote capability even for videos in queue in case they *really* don't deserve to make it to the front page.
joedirt: no formal policy exists on "new" vs "old", or "spoof" vs. "original" videos.
The over-arching "rule" or philosophy at VS, I've concluded/witnessed, is Quality Over All Else.
If a video meets people's "quality" standards (a subjective concept that deserves a better definition), then it should be supported. It doesn't matter if it's old or new - if something is old but a quality "classic" clip, there's no reason not to push it up.
After all, even if you and all your friends have seen a given clip, there's always a new generation of internet users coming on who may have never seen them (or youth in general who haven't seen all the stuff that are old hat for grizzled veterans and oldtimers), so there's no reason to hold back on old stuff.
