When a Lawyer Insured His Cigars Against Fire

newtboy says...

My guess was their lawyers told them in order to win they first had to prosecute, and they had to pay off first to make burning cigars a crime, then recoup all their losses with restitution in the criminal case…without the arson/fraud charge proven they might lose the case, thereby setting the horrific precedent. Ain’t laws fun!?

I’m just surprised there weren’t 20 charges of insurance fraud too.

While your statement can be taken as fact, this story however is based on this legend: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/cigarson/.

The Snopes article itself is from 2000.

Rarely are lawyers THAT stupid (those that are, gets appointed as judges by the likes of Trump to do the Republican's biddings), nor are insurers that passive in NOT fighting it out in court. They don't want these precedents to stand.

Border Collie Disc Caddy

newtboy says...

Absolutely yes.
My lab carried my disks, rags, place markers, and sometimes even my cigars in her backpack until she was paralyzed. She was my caddy.
My Shepherd would only chase the disk and “mark” where it stopped by touching it with his nose, but I never taught him to sit there so you had to watch him closely. He was not a caddy.
I’ve also known people who performed the same duties for friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, even for the “blind” disk golfer I played with a few times (he actually beat me). I’ve seen people tired of playing all day caddy for their friends quite often.
I’ve also seen caddies used in tournaments.
It’s not the norm, but it’s certainly not unheard of by any means.

Edit: is a caddy a prerequisite for it to be “golf”? If so, I guess there are a bunch of municipal bumpy ball whacking fields, but no municipal golf courses?

I will say, I’ve never personally seen electric disk golf carts.

So you're saying there actually are "disc golf caddies" that carry discs? Because if not, I think that's just a different category, and doesn't necessarily involve any carrying. Except when you give the mulligan signal.

"can't take back no hurt"

Ding ding ding.
Give that man a cigar.

I say it's even worse...we each have multiple, varying definitions of words like those that change (in our minds) based on context, but there's no way to transmit to the listener which of those variations are intended with any consistency unless you spell out exactly what you mean every time.

That gets tedious.

That said, I was thinking along the lines that you can't do opposites at the same time, you can't be in the light and dark (literally) together, but you can love and hate the same person at the same moment, but you can't love or hate someone you have complete disinterest in. Love and hate, in that sense, are two sides of the "emotionally invested" coin.

The Rollable OLED TV is expected to release this year

newtboy says...

*promote some *quality tech, but that's a silly application.
Roll up screens are best used on mobile devices not ridiculous high end TV gimmicks, imo.
Show me the prototype iPhone 15 that is the size and weight of a fountain pen until you unroll it to full tablet size, or a laptop that rolls up to the size of a large cigar....then I'll feel like it's the future.
