Catfish: A Documentary About Finding Love on the Internet

NaMeCaF says...

I dont get it... so is it really a documentary? Or is it a scripted film shot documentary style with actors (ie. Blair Witch, Cloverfield)?

The whole "not based on a true story, not inspired by true events, just true" implies it's a real documentary.

But then the weird change in tone and your comment about a link to a website of one of the "characters" in the film implies it's a scripted/fictional film shot documentary style.

Any clarification? If it is real, then my only assumption is that the family gets a restraining order on the guy after he and his friends drive interstate and turn up to their farm unannounced like some kind of crazy stalker... oooh, or the mum is crazy and has been using her daughters profiles and impersonating them to start a relationship with the guy. But that's more just a weird twist rather than a "shocking conclusion"

I'm not a sit around wait for the movie type person so I have been digging around to see what the ending might be so if your interested on a little more info here is a link to a website of one of the characters in the film.
Can only speculate what it means.

Trailer for the winner of the 2010 Palme dOr at Cannes

Trancecoach says...

For all you Lost fans, here’s another metaphysical jungle tale to your possible rescue (it will also suck up about 120 less hours of your life). It’s this year’s winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes, Apichatpong Weerasethakul‘s Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives.

Here’s this year’s jury head, Tim Burton, on the film:

“I liked it because it is a movie that you normally don’t see, not Western, with fantasy elements done in a way I have never seen before. It is a beautiful strange dream. It has a quiet reflective nature, full of surprises.”

Surprises, indeed! One of those past lives of Uncle Boonmee apparently features him as a catfish who makes love to a princess in a blue lagoon by wiggling his tale. Let’s see ya try that one!

Fishing the redneck way

alizarin says...

Impressive!

"The largest danger posed to noodlers are other forms of aquatic life found in catfish holes. Far more dangerous than catfish are alligators, snakes, beavers, muskrats and snapping turtles, who will take over abandoned catfish holes as homes of their own." - Wiki

"Ice Fishing" in Brazil

Stormsinger says...

Those are some nice catfish!

Not to mention the most impressive floating islands I've ever seen. Most such islands around here (meaning, in the US) are terribly soft and fragile, they'd break up under you if you tried walking on them.

Coral Gardening - Bringing Life Back To The Reefs

Xaielao says...

Absolutely. We have conservation on land that replants trees as we cut down others and helps endangered populations regain a foothold and sets swaths of wilderness aside as protected land that cannot be developed on.

Besides trying to protect sea life like dolphins and wales, we do little of this in the oceans and it is about time. While corporations dredge the sea bed and strip whole areas clean for their resources and hundred mile wide piles of plastic bags and other garbage float around the ocean. Helping to replant a coral reef is an excellent start.

On a personal level I don't eat ocean fish accept on a very rare occasion. Even if that means missing out on some of my favorite foods and only saving them for a rare treat. I still have my salmon (fresh caught is the only way to go,) catfish and tilapia.

Mekong Giant Catfish - World's largest freshwater fish

Skeeve says...

Absolute proof of intelligent design! Did you see how perfectly his hand fit into its mouth? AND it has no teeth. The only explanation is that God designed the Mekong Giant Catfish so that humans could put their hands in its mouth.

Heard any good jokes lately? (Possibly NSFW) (Comedy Talk Post)

Seagal enjoys a glass of wine

legacy0100 says...

Kelly Lebrock, eh? Never heard of her. But apparently she did star in Weird Science.

Also, according to wiki, she is married to Steven Segal...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelly_LeBrock

I didn't know at the time, but she also starred in UK's Hell's Kitchen with Marco Pierre White. When I was watching the show I was like: who is this catfish-like being?

I think the Segal family needs to readjust their lifestyle. Beautiful people, aging very badly.

Stripping Snow White- America's got talent

quantumushroom says...

Not that I put much cred in the info either way, but I read "somewhere" that all the children in the audience were made to leave the auditorium for these, uh, "burlesque" performances and shots of kids hiding their eyes (why? kids don't have shame yet) were edited in later to make it seem worse.

And Brandi has a face like a catfish.

Surprised cat practically walks on water

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

What an odd coincidence, though - such is fame these days, eh?

I may have met that same homeless guy. I flew in to Cleveland for a Do Make Say Think/Broken Social Scene (both from Toronto) show and a guy asked us that in downtown Cleveland. Maybe just a popular attention grabber. He ended up getting some really good cajun catfish and pizza leftovers out of us.

This beggar/homeless guy in Cleveland taught me that one - we had a good laugh because we were, of course, visiting from Canada, so we weren't sure how to respond to the question until he delivered the kicker.

brain, you have trifled with forces you can barely comprehend. Forces that have created beaver tails AND poutine.
